It's interesting. The Caps are trying to do something similar, for the same reason; all their adds this summer were under 30 players. And yet, despite being very explicit about their intentions -- not tanking, but trying to rebuild by adding young players via trade and FA and not just the draft -- pundits and fans of other teams seem confused.The "rumor" states that Calgary is looking for an age appropriate center for what they are trying to do and this thread is full of 30+ year old cap dumps.
This is nothing new. Conroy has clearly identified an age group of 21-26 in most if not all of his deals. Names like Norris, Mercer, Greig, Cozens, etc.. fit the bill whether or not they are available is another story.
I don't know whether either team will succeed. But what they're trying to do shouldn't be hard to understand. And yet...
