When the season was starting I had a little hope that they would have a down season after back-to-back trip to the finals and losing a couple players to free agency.

But even when they are missing players they look so good. Their forecheck is unreal.

They did not lose anybody that important. Lundell is underrated by this board imo. Luostarinen is a very good middle six player imo. If he had more TOI in a lesser team he would do 20 goals and 45ish points. Matthew Samoskevich is a pretty good porspect. Schmidt is a solid vet add he wont support the offense as much as Montour but defensively he'll be solid for them. They need a quarterback but that's something they could adress at the deadline.

Pretty small by goalie standards also, 6 foot and 166 pounds.

Anyways, I don't see how this is sustainable for the Flames...Their top scorers have 10 points in 19 games, but I guess they do have some decent depth. Even at that, they're in a weird situation where they should be rebuilding because their roster is mostly old but they're still winning games. It reminds me of the Habs where it's almost like they were just good enough to be in the running to make the playoffs but nowhere near good enough to get anywhere close to the Stanley Cup.

I've seen quite a few flames fans complain that their owner wouldn't allow a true rebuild.

Flames offensive metrics are near bottom 10 in the league, their expected goals for is below expected goals against, their special units are crap (below bottom 10 for both). 6 RW in 10 wins with 2 SO wins.

It's sustainable as long as their goalies can sustain it.:popcorn:

That will indeed be interesting to watch, very few G it seems who can sustain performance in nets for 45+ GP
 
They are creating a really nice buffer here and there are a whole host of bad teams. Calgary is 5 games over .500 and there are 12 teams at least 1 game under .500.

He might be a rookie, but he's really good. He's put up great stats in every league, so far. He's ready for the NHL. Flames let him cook a couple of years in AHL.
