I wouldn't trade all that for Andersson unless it's a sign and trade. Guy is 18 months away from UFA. Seeing what D got this past summer, and the fact he's RD, he's going to command a lot. I can see him wanting to test the UFA waters. A lot of teams are going to have the money to pay him. He has no reason to stay with a mediocre Flames team or a rebuilding Montreal team.
Pay za man hiz money!

Calgary wins again. Pick is currently at #22. I expect both Dallas & Vancouver to pass them soon. Calgary is only ahead because they've played more games. If they could stay in top 20, that would be sweet.

They'll crater at the end of the year like they usually do. We just have to hope their pick doesn't quite land into top-10 territory.

Yeah the Flames aren't a good team, so I hope they keep adding to their points buffer so they can stay out of the bottom 10.

We should find out how many points is traditionally needed last 4 years to make it 8th spot in the West, even the worst teams in the league get 4 points out of every possible 10. So what's their magic number they need to get to before they crater like that.

We could give Flames a good buy on one of our veteran forwards?

You would be doing a Sam Pollock "light" trade.

Pollock traded Ernie Hicke to the Golden Seals to help them "not" finish last so that the Habs could finish last and draft Guy Lafleur.

Just a quick shoutout to the Pens 2nd round pick. Looking gooooooood.
Same with Jackets 2nd next year.

Definitely. I wish we had done this to the Penguins when they were fighting Florida for that last playoff spot the year we had the Florida 1st from Chiarot

This pick may have optimal value around the TDL.
If we want to make a splash with a hockey trade and not a rental and plan to use this asset that would be the time.
Calgary is going in one direction and I wouldn't put it past them to pull the tent pegs for the lottery pick.
If we want their righty and we should I'd definitely include that pick. I think finding a balance at the back is CRITICAL for next season.
How many teams can pay what we possibly could?

Hughes will probably trade this pick. He did other two drafts for Dach and Newhook. Came within a hair last draft trading for Zegras. If Demidov doesn't slide and Hage gone at 21 he would have. Seems to be up his alley.

Depends on where it falls. If it's 20s or later, almost assuredly.

If it's top 20, the value in another high end prospect who can come in on an ELC is going to likely be stronger than whoever would be available in a trade

Although Calgary doesn't have high end talent, this team may be different than past teams. They do have a lot of depth at forward, new coaches, new goalie, etc... We'll see...

4 years ago was the shortened 56 game covid season; however the last 3 seasons WC2 team had 97, 95 & 98 points, respectively.

At their current winning percentage, they'd amass 92 pts and hold WC1 with Edmonton & Colorado battling it out for WC2. I expect improved performance from Colorado as they get healthier & I don't expect Calgary to get better - probably a little worse. They're pretty much playing at max potential now.

I'm not sure about Edmonton. They're healthy, and have McDrai, but Calgary has far better goaltending, a way better defence & are grittier. There's no one person leading the charge in Calgary. It's scoring by committee.

Is there still a chance this pick gets bumped to 2026? I know there was a scenario for that. I want two shots at McKenna.

You are mixing things up.
Pollock swapped the Habs 1st with the Golden Seals 1st for 1971.
But the LA Kings started to play even more poorly than the Golden Seals, so Pollock traded Ralph Backstrom to the Kings for basically nothing to boost them.

Habs won the 1970-1971 Stanley Cup and drafted Lafleur a few weeks later.

Florida would have to completely implode. It's not happening.
Thanks WTK. If that's the case, I hope that if we trade Matheson, Savard, Dvorak, Armia...that out of all of those we get an extra 1st rounder in 26 and also 27. Two shots at McKenna and Dupont.

Florida would need to trade their 2025 1st round pick (which is entirely possible) or draft top 10 in 2025 (their pick is top 10 protected - this is extremely unlikely), and Calgary would have to draft 1st OA in 2025. In which case everything transfers to 2026 and we get the better of the picks in 2026.
