If that's the offer, Buffalo should take it. Tkachuk is a very good player.

So something like Tkachuk, 2022 1st, Valimaki/Zadorov, Ruzicka/Pospisil, some throw in package?

Take it and run, Buffalo.

If I am Buffalo, I am talking contract or trade before I would accept Tkachuk as the centerpiece.

People are overreacting a bit here. The Flames are not keen to pay Tkachuk and the rest of the rumored pieces might be great but might as well be garbage.

Tkachuk, Zadorov, Whynot, Beck and a 1st is not exactly a great offer for Eichel. Especially if Tkachuk has no interest in signing a reasonable contract / won't get you much in a trade considering his contract demands.

If the former 1st is Valimaki and the prospects are Coronato/Pelletier and/or Zary, then of course that would be an unbelievable haul.

So that Weekes leak only tells you that hfboards was (as expected) off the rocker if they thought Eichel could be got for 1 prospect like Krebs and capdumps.
But it doesn't tell you how good that offer really is.

3-way trade:

Flames get Eichel
Senators get Tkachuk
Sabres get Valimaki, presumably 2 B prospects (so not Pelletier or Zary, next group down) and a 1st from Calgary and Brannstrom and a 1st from Ottawa

I hope Benning does not get any trade ideas with Petey struggling.

Tkachuk is getting way overrated here. He’s looking for big money after his current deal and he won’t be worth it, the Tkachuk family are some of the toughest negotiators in the league and He’d be looking for a 9-10M contract for sure.

Why wouldn't Ottawa save all of those assets and just wait for him to go UFA? We all know he's going to market regardless, and that he'll go with the highest bidder.

Okay so after thinking over it more, here is the very worst version of what is possible within the context of that rumor:

Tkachuk + 2022 1st + Zadorov (former 1st) + Phillips + Ruzicka

And here is the best:

Tkachuk + 2022 1st + Lindholm (former 1st) + Zary + Coronato/Pelletier

Do with this information what you will.

Disagree. Whatever contract concerns there are should not downplay his impact on the ice.

Hard to get into this news when it is just Weekes reporting it at this point. I'll dive in when the heavy hitters start reporting it.

Shoulda got one game in
Tkachuk wouldn't return Norris straight up

And he certainly wouldn't return as much as Eichel, which is obviously if he's being included in a package for Eichel.

All Tkachuk has to do is accept his 9M QO and he's a UFA in a year and can walk to whatever team he wishes.

His trade value is significantly reduced because of that. Unless a team can agree to an extension before the trade they have to treat him as a 2 year acquisition (rest of this year and next).

You missed the big qualifier: if. It’s literally just an offer I’m posting that’d make me think about immediately flipping him. It’s in no way a line drawn in the sand or saying it has to be that.

And he could. But is that a risk he’s willing to take? Not everyone gets the Tavares or Panarin contract upon free agency.

No way this got offered. Otherwise McPhee should be fired on the spot for not yet accepting it.

If Buffalo manages to pull Tkachuk and Lindholm, the citizens of the fine city of Buffalo need to commission the Kevyn Adams statue STAT

Lol I know you are just following the template but that trade with Lindholm would actually make me walk away as a Flames fan.

But the thing is, Tkachuk will have zero interest staying in Buffalo... so Sabres flip him I assume?
