Bridge deal some players and extend the ones that have shown consistency.

Matheson has played 8 games. This is getting ridiculous.

Huberdeau got a bridge, Smith is 3 years past his ELC. Bjugstad is only making 4.1 mil. Barkov and Ekblad deserve to be locked up for a long time. Trocheck is the only one who hasn't consistently proved that he can be a 50 point guy, but everyone here was saying what a good deal that was yesterday. Again, I think the Trocheck deal is great, I just don't understand bashing this one and not the Trocheck one

They're both premature.

Florida really cementing their team right now, their fans must be having all the fun this week.

Must be a good time to be a panthers fan.

you can't imagine. after 20 years of suffering this is a breadth of fresh air. finally management has a plan and the $$ to back it up. it's unbelievable not being the laughing stock of the league any longer and trading all our good players at the deadline.:yo::handclap::D;)

I've always been a fan of the Panthers. But just because your franchise finally has money to spend, doesn't automatically make you a good team. A lot of these contracts have to work out and over half of them are a toss up of if they'll work out. Lots of term being thrown around so we'll see.

I'm not sure how much more we could've waited on Smith, he would have been an RFA after next year and I'm pretty sure a UFA the year after that so it was either sign him now or sign him to a likely bigger contract next year. I didn't watch him much with the Bruins, but his numbers have been pretty consistent for 3 years now. And if he's the player we saw last year, he's definitely worth this contract

coming from management, plus the fan base who watches him every game, he has been incredible and very consistent. he caught my eye the first time i saw him at training camp, and to no surprise ended up being an incredible player for us.

outside of barkov he was my favorite player. incredibly dynamic, fast and agile, great hands, good shot, can score, can pass, good in the defensive zone, plays the pk and pp. just so well rounded. he also plays rw which we're very thin at.

tbh i wanted him locked up more than huberdeau as far as the wingers we have.

and for anyone saying he got overpaid, well watching him play every game and playing the way he did here and will either stay with trocheck which is a perfect duo, or play with barkov which would be incredible too, even when he played with bjugstad he did great, meshed with everyone. but he's a legit top-6 wingers, rw (can play both), young, and locked up for a total of 6 more years now. if he's overpaid, which i don't think he is, it'd be by 0.5 at most, at most, thats not exactly something to cry over.

most likely will have a similar season, if so he woudve asked for even more considering that huberdeau will probably be asking for give or take 6per. 25g-25a legit top-6 winger, young, and does everything well for us? yea, 5per is fine. both him and trocheck were give or take 5per guys so both worked out.

not to mention he was still signed through next season, clearly the panthers were more than comfortable with 5per otherwise they would've waited. now we have all 3 centers locked up, our 2 top d locked up, and 1 of our wingers locked up, all longterm.

For the first time this offseason, I'm questioning Tallon. I get wanting to lock up young players but I have a hard time believing he'll ever be worth that cap hit. Not a terrible contract by any stretch, but overpaid relative to recent singings.

1. Tallon isn't the GM anymore.

2. Ladd had fewer points and is going downhill and just got a longer contract worth more AAV

1. At least it was recent...

2. I'm not a Ladd fan at all. Wouldn't have given him that deal. They aren't similar at all though.

It’s only 3-0 who cares
I think it's a tad over, but when you look at how this offseason has unfolded in the NHL it's not really surprising anymore.

Just glad we have resigned pretty much everyone and their mother except Huberdeau. We'll see how that one goes.

I doubted Smith's addition when we acquired him, but he was pretty solid all season long and was a beast in the playoffs.

these things prove themselves with the passage of time. i'll put my neck on the chopping block and predict buyout

feel free to throw it in my face in 3 years if hes earning his money but standing here today this deal looks sad to me and is one more reason we are headed to another lockout

Florida appears to have money. Amazing considering the price of tickets and the attendance. Good owners, I suppose. Good for their fans to have a good product on the ice.

Just hope these mid-range contracts don't come back to bite them. I know, Montreal has a few of these and theyre back breakers.

didnt you say the same exact thing about demers the other day?

he put up 25-25 on the 2nd line, is more than capable of playing on the top line after jagr if necessary. and playing with barkov and a playmaker like huberdeau, i think its fair to say he'd maintain that 25-25 stat line. either way he's in a perfect spot with trocheck or barkov longterm.

hes a very dynamic player, does a bit of everything and does them well, he's been great. he just turned 25 not long ago and will enter his 5th season. he's entering his prime.

his first season was the shortened year and played in a smaller capacity, then he had a bigger role and broke 50pt, a slight dip the next season but still got 40, and then played tremendous for us and broke 50 again this time scoring 25g. he's a young guy and has been developing, why is it people assume he had a one-off season instead of a young player who has been developing and is hitting his stride and entering his prime? I'm sure the panthers do.
