I might be missing something here but is it not absolutely moronic to trade a 2029 1st round pick (top 10 protected) with the potential of having it slide to 2030 completely unprotected? From the team building their core around a bunch of geezers on 8 year retirement contracts? Marchand will be like 50 when that pick is made. Ridiculous.

From Florida's POV, they paid Samoskevich + 2 1sts for Tkachuk which made it a lot more palatable for them.

Ottawa made the most out of the situation, but let's be honest any team would prefer a 26 yr old, 70-80 pt power forward over what Ottawa received.

It's not a guarantee that Florida is receiving a 70-80 point power forward. He was almost a ppg player this season and he may have hit that mark if he hadn't been injured, but injuries taking a toll on Brady is another factor that people aren't really considering for this trade.

Seems crazy from Ottawa's perspective to not get a player back. I would assume this is going to royally piss of every player on the roster even though it will look great in a few years

Both of the Tkachuk's are fakes and posers. Mouthguard chewing guys that would rather chirp than show up. All attitude and bluster until someone shows up that will punch them in their weak faces.

Both of them know that they are too mentally weak to succeed in a real hockey market. Both just floaters that dont want to be humiliated when they have to answer the call in a city that understands what commitment to hockey really means.

I am looking forward to when real hockey markets are finally rid of this era of fake hockey "superstars".
They aren't superstars. McDavid, Celebrini, Crosby are. Solid ppg players that aren't that good defensively.

Hoisting Stanley Cups in Florida is still hoisting Stanley Cups. Why can't a REAL hockey market, like Cabada or wherever, do that?

Gtfo bro.

I mean every player has injuries and nothing is guaranteed. But he's been pretty damn healthy the past 5 years and still has quite a few years of his prime left since he's only 26. He'd have to go against the statistical norm to regress.

There's a chance he ends up on PPG and is closer to a 65-70 pt player, but Florida didn't acquire him to put up points in the regular season and he should be worth his weight in gold come the postseason. I don't like the Tkachuks, but they're damn good hockey players and their games fit the mold of playoff-style hockey.

Just not this season, for either

Wha wha with your real hockey market shit. Florida sells out games when they are good, they don’t when they are bad, just like the rest of the teams in the league do and would, aside from a few. Take that tired, regurgitated bullshit elsewhere.

Um you do realize the pick would’ve been unprotected one year regardless anyways then right?

Yup, Brady also won't have to do as much as he did in Ottawa. He's maybe the 4th best forward on his team now, and he doesn't have the pressure of wearing the "C" either.

Well, looks like a good haul for a player that wanted out. Good on the Sens.
But how many dudebros can a team (Florida) have before it's get too much :D

So.. not far from how it was on the Senators? :P

They have to be trading that 9th overall pick for a roster player, right? If they end up somehow not making any moves to replace Brady then I don't know what they're planning to do with this core.

Panthers are not that old. Lundell is 24, Brady is 26, Matthew is 28. Barkov will still be Barkov, or very close to it, in 4 years. Forsling is one of the top 5 fittest guys in the NHL, and a great skater . He'll still be a top 25 D in 4 years. I doubt the team falls off that badly in 4 years. Now 6-7 years from now , yes that is a different story .

Every player has injuries but Brady's style of play makes him more susceptible to it.

What will probably help him on the Panthers is that he won't be expected to be one of the primary guys expected to drive the offense and will play less minutes as a result, but that may affect his production as well.

I think a lot of Sens fans were expecting that mythical playoff Brady Tkachuk to show up in the playoffs but he laid an absolute egg this year, probably one of the worst forwards on the Sens and an absolute non factor in the series. He has a different supporting cast in Florida so I'll be interested to see how he does.

...are you serious??...McKenna isn't even considered the consensus #1 this year; Stenberg, Malholtra, and the plethora of Top End D are right up there with him (Reid, Verhoeff, Carels, Smits)...so because YOU haven't kept up to date means people aren't "talking" about them??...why bother posting about something you seem to know nothing about??...

Not having a consensus #1 doesn't mean the draft is good, it can mean it is weak, in that none are considered to be so good you have to take them at so and so spot. Carels, Smits, Reid and Malhotra have been talked about very little outside the die hards on HF.

Also regardless of that, the main point is they are only getting 1 top end pick for a very good player. That isn't exciting and shouldn't be regardless of team or player that is going. Unless they get extremely lucky, they are very likely getting back someone much worse than Brady with all 4 picks combined and maybe 1-5 years from even being in their lineup.

I remember seeing Florida in 2018 against Boston during spring break.

That arena was absolutely dead.

Holy shit did not see this coming. When I saw the Panthers start loading up on picks I thought for sure it was to get Hellebuyck.

So who plays in net for them next season?

They could win another cup or two before then so won't care about 2030 1st round picks. This is the most successful Panthers team in history already and it is bordering on a legendary NHL franchise if they win another one or two soon.

Brady has enough hockey IQ (and only hockey) to adapt his game if need be and still be very effective. He doesn't need to put up 250+ hits per season to be useful.

It sounded like he was a bit checked out already in Ottawa, which obviously isn't a good look for him. I'd love nothing more for him to lay an egg and be useless for the Panthers, but i'm not going to bet against it.

Both of them know they are too weak to succeed in a real hockey market. Stay in FLA boys where you can chirp then hide in a corner.
