Panthers fans had to put up with decades of being told they shouldn't even have a team so hard to blame them for seizing the moment, there's no lamer trash talk than "haha your team is gonna relocate"

If the Jackets ever win a Cup I won't fault their fans for doing the same
It more the undermining Carolina’s cup than being proud of Florida’s that I was referring to, but whatever.

How could they be mad at that return?

Cause it is bad.

9th OV in a weak draft, 2 late 1sts, one of which is 3 years from now and a 2nd for a very good NHL player. Maybe in 5 years they have one person even close to Brady's level. If you are trading players of this level you need far more than lower end lottery tickets.

Yes, if the player doesn't have a NMC and list of just 4 teams.

Good. He can hang up. You gave up the world for brady and think you'll get helle for nothing :laugh:
I understand that Helle warrants a good return. Just pointing out where Zito draws the line. With that said, what about a situation where Helle demands a trade to Florida? Rodrigues and Boqvist to clear cap and any draft pick still available plus prospect is about as much as Florida can offer. Jets of course can say screw that but is that a situation they want to go through?

Then you keep him until they want out bad enough til they increase the teams they will accept.
This sounds good in theory but it becomes a headache for the organization. It’s like staying in a relationship with a partner until you find someone new. It’s better for both parties just to move on. Tkachuk clearly had all the levarage and he knew where he wanted to go. There wasn’t a whole lot Ottawa could do.

Ok fine if it is a headache. Getting bad return or just depth level players for a very good player won't be a headache or annoying to the fans? I am saying this as the Wings will get something similar or whatever for Larkin and it will be a garbage return.

That works a lot better in theory than in reality. If Brady was holding Staios at gunpoint and Florida was offering a 2nd round pick sure keep him out. In this case, I don’t think the headache around the organization would have been worth it.

Let's be real here: Florida is doing this now because they want to have the last laugh on an emerging Carolina team that has far more of a second wave of talent coming up (Nikishin, Stankoven, Blake), all of their draft picks, and massive cap space for their own blockbuster addition. Florida very much lacks the first two things, but it doesn't mean they are not dangerous. As a result, they want to go all in for ~3 years or so before their core rots out of contention status. This is about as good a play as they possibly can make to hold off the Carolina machine.
The machine Florida leveled 8-1? The boys played more hockey than anyone else in history in the 3 year span. Even that Chicago team needed space between titles. I’m not declaring anything other than the boys will make a hard push, but people acting like a healthy Panthers squad isn’t dangerous af is ridiculous.

4 teams was just to save face. LeBrun, Friedman and Russo all have alluded to Florida being his sole preference.
Of course it was, his brother plays here and he was around for the Cup runs. He’s seen how well this team is run and the fans have treated him well here even though he’s on another team.

They said Ottawa explored options with other teams, Zito paid up. This is a good haul for Ottawa.

Apparently it was a headache for the other players in the dressing room.

Sounds like it was enough of a headache already that other players voiced their displeasure to management. I'm sure there will be more coming out in regards to that.

I'm also saying that what we saw this year was a different Carolina team from past years (mainly because of the addition of players like Ehlers who are great transition guys), and the Panthers core is now two years older than the Cup year, with significant injury concerns. I imagine that the near-inevitable ECF matchup in 2027 is going to be far closer this time around.

Don’t draft Americans if you are a small market team. they don’t have the usual loyalties as canadians do to their draft team. Americans act like it’s the NBA

Ah yes, can't go far without someone coming out to bash Americans all while being completely ignorant.

Guy pictured above was a super loyal Canadian to his American draft team.

It's always Brady preferred Florida, and never Ottawa preferred Florida's offer. Curious. If Florida is his sole preference, be upfront, the four teams is just dressing. Similar to saying people expect you to do the same thing as your brother and saying that you are on your own path and then doing the same thing as your brother.

I was a big Brady fan, got his jersey, my 6 years old too, then the playoffs came in. Dropped the gloves on his first ever playoff shift, missed plenty of chances, then quit on the team. Everybody on the team saw the same thing, this guy was already gone in his mind.

I saw a team that plays the same way Florida does, as Rod has said, and didn’t have to face a heavier team that Florida is. Congrats on the Cup, now Carolina knows what it takes and did a great , but I’ll put a rested Panthers team against anyone.

Brady has been a distraction for more than a few years now. This is cutting ties when it needed to be done. A season or two more this circus would have been detrimental to the team. Can't have your Captain half-assing it wishing he was playing somewhere else. Get what you can and move on.

Brady quit on the Sens.

Fair, but he’s also spent a ton of time here. I’ve wondered how it’s seen by his teammates as he drives Matthew and the Cup around. Still, this is a very good haul, and if he had to give a several team list, they didn’t have to send him where he wanted to go.
