I might be missing something here but is it not absolutely moronic to trade a 2029 1st round pick (top 10 protected) with the potential of having it slide to 2030 completely unprotected? From Florida's POV, they paid Samoskevich + 2 1sts for Tkachuk which made it a lot more palatable for them.

Ottawa made the most out of the situation, but let's be honest any team would prefer a 26 yr old, 70-80 pt power forward over what Ottawa received.

It's not a guarantee that Florida is receiving a 70-80 point power forward. He was almost a ppg player this season and he may have hit that mark if he hadn't been injured, but injuries taking a toll on Brady is another factor that people aren't really considering for this trade.

Panthers are not that old. Lundell is 24, Brady is 26, Matthew is 28. Barkov will still be Barkov, or very close to it, in 4 years. Forsling is one of the top 5 fittest guys in the NHL, and a great skater . He'll still be a top 25 D in 4 years. I doubt the team falls off that badly in 4 years. Now 6-7 years from now , yes that is a different story .

What will probably help him on the Panthers is that he won't be expected to be one of the primary guys expected to drive the offense and will play less minutes as a result, but that may affect his production as well.

I think a lot of Sens fans were expecting that mythical playoff Brady Tkachuk to show up in the playoffs but he laid an absolute egg this year, probably one of the worst forwards on the Sens and an absolute non factor in the series. He has a different supporting cast in Florida so I'll be interested to see how he does.

Not having a consensus #1 doesn't mean the draft is good, it can mean it is weak, in that none are considered to be so good you have to take them at so and so spot. Carels, Smits, Reid and Malhotra have been talked about very little outside the die hards on HF.

Also regardless of that, the main point is they are only getting 1 top end pick for a very good player. That isn't exciting and shouldn't be regardless of team or player that is going. Unless they get extremely lucky, they are very likely getting back someone much worse than Brady with all 4 picks combined and maybe 1-5 years from even being in their lineup.
