If given a choice between spending my winters living in sunny Boca Raton with no state tax, or in Ottawa with extremely high taxes, the decision would be quite obvious.

I understand that Helle warrants a good return. Just pointing out where Zito draws the line. With that said, what about a situation where Helle demands a trade to Florida? Rodrigues and Boqvist to clear cap and any draft pick still available plus prospect is about as much as Florida can offer. Jets of course can say screw that but is that a situation they want to go through?
Helle wouldn't force the hand of the jets he's too loyal. And that's a terrible return.

Everybody. EVERYBODY. Knows Carolina’s cup has an asterisk on it since they didn’t face Florida in route to the cup. They danced their way in because the true top dog was recovering from three Stanley cup finals in a row. Winning under that circumstance and pretending they did it hard is a joke. You will find out real fast how much of a joke Carolina is to Florida.

Ok bud.

More likely Habs drop Florida first round in a sweep. You guys old.

Trying to take away or diminish their win is just pathetic honestly, and I have nothing against the Panthers (and am not a Canes fan either)

Also to note one thing Brady didn't ask to leave the Sens he was honest with them and told them he wasn't going to resign with them which is in his rights. He was willing to play here the next 2 years and then leave as a UFA he didn't screw the sens by asking for a trade. The Sens chose to go this route, say what ever you want about the Tkachuks but there stand up guys who at least don't screw there teams over. both Mathew and Brady have my respect for how they handled there situations before being traded.

The second wave you guys keep touting (more like a second puddle) is not gonna do anything to Florida because Florida doesn’t build through the draft anymore, they just attract free agents in their prime. Nobody in Florida is worried about a team they regularly swept in playoffs
I imagine Zito is, its why he sold the future to win now.

3 years is a long time.

Barkov, Reinhart, Verhaeghe, and Bennett will be 34. It gives Matthew T 3 more years to break down because of the type of player he is. Marchand will be in his 40's. Their 30 year old defensemen, which is all of them, will have that many more miles on those legs. If they were to get Hellebuyck, he's already 33.

How long do you think they have?
They have about as many years as Barkov stays relevant. That's at least the remaining of his contract. The way he approaches training and getting better and takes care of himself I'd say it's 3-4 years on top of that.

Honestly, I think they did alright.

9th overall is a premium piece. Cullen or Bjork would all be excellent additions, as would Verhoeff/Smits if they drop. Gus and Rudolph are also interesting.

No guarantee you get another Brady with any top 10 pick, but the team giving up the best player loses more often that not. I wouldn't have too much heartburn about the 2029 1st. TBH, if I had Florida picks I'd rather they be further out-they're a favorite next year.

The bottom may very well fall out, but I think it'll be 4+ years from now. Or they'll add Quinn and the dominance will continue for a decade. The Panthers really aren't that old. Marchand is old, but they don't need him during the regular season, just be a dawg in the playoffs. Jones, Ekblad, Forsling, Barkov, and Bennett are 30 or 31. Once that group hits 35, I think regression is inevitable, but want a menace they'll be in the meantime.

I think they've got 2 more cups ahead.

Sure, if you believe that not wanting to re-sign with the team that drafted you so you could play somewhere else is "stand up" (and in Brady's case, made him captain).

True, neither formally demanded a trade but that's kind of a moot point isn't it in that both Calgary and Ottawa had to trade them or else let them walk for away for nothing.

I don’t understand this line of thinking. Why is it ok for teams to move players wherever it suits the organization, but if a player wants out all of a sudden they have “out of touch egos”?
Because most fans are crazy homers.

I think this is flat out bad for OTT. HFB, as always, has a huge group of people who value draft picks more than actual NHL players, so they think it's good, but this is bad for OTT. A 9th in a mediocre draft with poor forward depth, and late 1sts. some of them won't even begin to hit a pro lineup for 5 years, if ever.

I thought OTT played CAR fairly hard in the playoffs, and were improving as a team. A draft pick that isn't going to do them a damn bit of good for 2-3 years at best does nothing for them, unless they bundle it and some other assets in a trade.

This is quite delusional, the Sens are now a bottom dweller without Brady

Also this is still a horrible deal. It’s unlikely statistically that these first round picks will be as good as Brady. The 9th overall will be the best pick and a lot of them end up busting.
Mate, we made the playoffs DESPITE Brady.

He's going to be good for Florida, but he was dead weight here.

Mine would be:

Verhaeghe-Barkov-Reinhart
B. Tkacuk- Bennett- M. Tkachuk
Luostarinen-Lundell-Marchand
Gadjovich-Boqvist-Rodridgues

Forsling-Ekblad
Mikkola-Jones
Kulikov-Balinskis

XXXX
XXXX

Some have put Brady with Barkov and put Verhaeghe on 2nd LW to balance speed on top two lines.

Id assume one or both of Boqvist and Rodrigues are moved to get to $11.5 million in cap space to address both goalie positions and a possible 4C add.
as a Leafs fan, I think you would be better served with
B. Tkacuk - Barkov - M. Tkachuk
Verhaeghe - Bennett - Reinhart

load that top line, and Barkov can counter the brothers running around and always being out of position better and 2nd line could feast
in your version, the 2nd line will take/draw a penalty per shift

I think Ottawa did good with the return. Brady was not a good captain and overrated as a player. Still a very good player, don't get me wrong. But he got too big in Ottawa for a lack of a better player/star. We got many of that in Montréal, Pacioretty being a very good example.

Of they can somehow flip some of the picks or all and get Robertson, it would be a huge win for the team. If they can't do that. I think the smart move here is to retool. They have a young 1C and a young 1D.

What did Ottawa achieve with Brady exactly?

It's like year 9 of their rebuild, losing in 4 and giving a 'good opposition' as their highest achievement is a failure if you ask me.

Let's see what they do next

You dont break up Barkov and Reinhart.
