i think huby should be buying barkov dinner every day for the next six years.

 (as in I find this funny not stupid), but to be fair while Barkov is the better player, Barkov's contract only buys out 2 UFA years, while Huby's buys out 4 (?), and Huby's was after a bridge contract.

as a habs fan i dont fear huby as much as barkov. hes a great young player and kudos to florida for signing up their core. maybe similar value to a gallagher. little bit pricey but with inflation and free agent years and all , not bad i guess. maybe barkovs agent needs a slap in the head or at least some advice from huberdeaus

Considering the AAV of this contract, Gallagher's contract at $3.75 million is an absolute steal. Huberdeau is good, not $2 million better than Gallagher
Florida is the new Edmonton. How did their $6 million "Triplets" work out?

Meh, you can't compare the deals. Gallagher's contract was 4 years RFA and 2 years UFA. Hub's is 4 years UFA and 2 years RFA. Huberdeau took a bridge, Gallagher didn't. Gallagher will be UFA as a 28 year old, Huberdeau will be 30. Gallagher's contract is great moving forward, but the risk was there when he signed and the less UFA years bought out come with a significant less cap-hit. The inverse can be seen with Subban's contract after his bridge.

And when Hall signed his 6M contract, the cap ceiling was 64.3M. He took up 9.3% of the cap. When Huberdeau's contract starts his cap-hit will be 7.8%, 9.3% of the cap (assuming a 75M cap for 2017-2018) is ~7M. Not to mention that the 6M triplets were the least of the Oilers worries, they didn't have any defense or goalie...the Panthers have a player named Ekblad. So pretty much you don't know what you're talking about.

He'll get 50% lower than huberdeau if the yotes are looking to offer a fait deal and not overpay. Over the past two years huberdeau has 103 pts in 155 games while rieder has 58 pts in 154 game. One is a legit 1st line forward, who has the potential to get 70 pts, while rieder is a 3rd line forward who may become a 2nd line player. Two different players and cases. Huberdeau is part of the Panthers core, Rieder is a replaceable piece within the yotes organization and won't be valued like huberdeau is with the panthers.

I'd give him more than 50% of Huberdeau's; to say he is nothing more than a replaceable part is not giving Rieder the credit he deserves.

I do not think he will get near Huberdeau's $ numbers, but his agent would be wise to point at Huberdeau's career progression (production wise) and what kind of contract that has lead to.
Truthfully, a more realistic comparison would be Nazem Kadri, and even then, it'd be wise for Arizona to start with a cheaper contract than that even, but any agent is going to want to start planting seeds for the next contract negotiation now by starting higher and "compromising".

Kindof shocked at how many people aren't happy with the number. Guy has shown amazing potential and keeps getting better and better and having other young stars coming into their prime as well around him is only going to boost his numbers.

I think this deal looks like a steal in 2-3 years.

funnily enough Barkov's agent (Todd Diamond) was the brother of one of my dad's best friends as a child, so I'm sure my dad will find this funny

Then again, Habs fans might have gotten the wrong idea of Barkov considering he has always scored against the Habs.

no disrespect to mr. diamond . i have a feeling mr.barkov will hit a payday at approx age of 28ish to forget about any discrepancies. i remember when doughty signed his 8 yr 56 million dollar deal. i thought are they insane. i guess i was the insane one.

i think they know about barkov pretty well. hes gonna be one of those franchise guys you know like kopitar toews tavares giroux. i think huberdeau will always be a solid top six guy. just not in that other statosphere

Hall is #3 ranked LW behind Ovechkin and Benn, and just ahead of Gaudreau at #4.
Huberdeau is #18.

By who ? Link ? I am an Oiler fan and I have Hall behind Johnny Hockey . Still always thought Halls deal was good . Not great but very good . It could be a great deal if he gets back to 80 points

Florida continues to follow the Edmonton model.

Haha . Got to laugh . Edmonton may have had the players upfront but the had no goalie as good a Lou or D anywhere near Ekblad , Yandle and Demers . Klefbom just start to play great last year , we will see if that continues . Same with Davidson . Larsson is an upgrade on Demers but we never had him . So no these teams do not compare . If I was a player Florida would be at the top of my list to sign . 0 taxes . A great young team . Edmonton might be 2nd on my list but I would probably sign a shorter term deal to make sure they are moving forward .

Oh and I am an Oiler fan who believes we see the Oilers climb the standings

Six years including 4 UFA years of a player of Huberdeau's caliber for less than 6 mil is absolutely solid. Now they only have to find someone to be that true #1RW. Maybe a TDL trade.

Jagr is awesome and all but let's be honest, Barkov and Huberdeau have got the skill and iq to make plays so much quicker that they need someone who can skate fast and shoot fast.

I think that move is going to happen after the expansion draft. We cant afford to protect someone we bring in at the deadline. I think the Panthers will look for a top six RW next summer, either a 1st liner, or a 2nd liner, which would move Smith to the top line. They could even experiment with Bjugstad on the top line.
