So because they got a great contract on one player every other deal is crap by comparison? I don't think you understand how this works...

Besides, someone who gets points will always have more value than someone who's a defensive or two way player.
Toews says otherwise

Kopitar does too .

2 of the 3 highest paid players are clear 2 way players hahah. Kopitar is better offensively on a less offensive team so I wouldn't hate on him as much as toews but still.

Overpaid a ton in comparison to Barkov. This is a joke.

How is it a joke?

Barkov was 20y when he signed, Huberdeau will be 24y when this contract kicks in.
I'm pretty confident that 24y Barkov would be just a bit more expensive to sign.

Considering it buys 4 UFA years, it is market value for a 60 point winger in today's NHL. By no means is it a steal, but it also isn't a bad contract.

Florida now has everybody locked down, which if they believe in their core is a great thing.

Anyone thinking this is a bad deal needs to sit down and look at what other comparable players are signing for. It's a fine deal in both term and cash value.

There seems to be a mentality with some posters that if a deal isn't a homerun for the team that it is a bad deal.

This signing is pretty fair for 4 UFA years based on Huberdeau's past performance. Something closer to 5 would have been a GREAT signing for the Panthers, but that doesn't mean that 5.9 is bad for a young top 6 player.

Nah, it's 4.

ELC (3 years) + bridge (2 years) = 5.

Still 2 years thus as a RFA.

Unless he played more than 9 games and less than 40. You burn a year of elc after the 7 or 9 games I can't remember but it doesn't count a year towards rfa if you only play half a season

It's a fair contract, I always forget that Barkov is underpaid so by comparison it seems like everyone else makes too much, but realistically he shouldn't be making more than barkov and he isn't, so I'm satisfied.

Also, this is the kind of money you get today if you flirt with 60 points. The good news is that he still has room to improve.

Yeah, this money is perfect for him. For those who don't like this deal, let's come back here in 3 yrs and discuss this signing.

It's perhaps a slight exaggeration.

Yes, you have to think about the balance of UFA and RFA years but age and potential development also factors in.

It's possible that they will regret this down the line.

How does that in any way, shape or form apply to Huberdeau?

His ELC seasons were 2012-13, 2013-14 and 2014-15.

His bridge seasons were/will be 2015-16 and 2016-17.

I can't believe Huberdeau got that much salary (5.9mil x 6 years) for long term.

I thought Huberdeau would have gotten a contract similar to Brayden Schenn's deal, but Huberdeau got a contract more similar to his teammates deal (Barkov).

Why would he get a similiar deal to Schenn when he's better?

A good deal. Last year was a career year in terms of points for him. He is still getting better. Getting a winger signed to such a cap hit that can play on your top line or 2nd line (if necessary) that's a good deal to make. The Panthers continue to show they have a lot of promise.

Right around the Scheifele cap hit... no complaints about that.

I think Scheifele has more value now, and his deal was for 8 years. I like Scheifele's deal better, though there's nothing much wrong with this one for Huberdeau.

You can say this about every long term contract ever signed.

I don't know - perhaps I haven't watched enough of Huberdeau the last couple of seasons, but he hasn't really impressed me....and I loved him in junior.
