2 notes on that case:

1: That location got warnings beforehand about the temperature of their coffee and:

Please read this if nothing else:
2: She only tried to sue for her medical expenses.
Cheers. I was 90% sure about that second part but didn’t want to add it just in case I was wrong. There was nothing frivolous about that case and while it was a PR masterpiece on McDonald’s part I feel terribly for that woman that she’s long been derided as a big joke for what was absolutely a warranted case of action

Is point #2 even possible in the USA as it's an extremely litigious country.

I say this half serious.

Yeah, I remember that one of the things I'd always do when I was single and hooking up was pull out my phone and ask girls to give consent on camera. Totally normal behavior.

I'm sorry but this has nothing to do with booze. There's a gulf here between a drunken hook-up (which are hyper common) and what went down in this situation, best exemplified by the fact that the girl was okay with going to bed with only one of the guys (even with booze involved), not that he invites all his buddies to barge in like a bunch of animals.
Point well taken. I would also like to hear a possible reason for this odd behavior from a phycologist. What the hell were they thinking ?

It is easy to believe. A toxic culture, and a bunch of boys getting treated like gods since they are kids. Seems like the perfect environment to breed people that act like this.
tbh - I'm surprised we don't here these kinds of stories come up more frequently in elite junuior hockey.

Their thinking isn’t hard. It was “we might have f***ed up and let’s cover our asses”. If there was no doubt that everything was cool, there wouldn’t have been a need to record her saying she consented (so it was after the events, not before).

Regardless of one’s opinion of her, a woman consenting to drunken sex, or fooling around, with one person does not mean she consents to anything after. Especially if all of a sudden there’s a bunch of dudes in the room she doesn’t know holding golf clubs. They could possibly never think of using them as a weapon, but she doesn’t know that. It’s 8 on 1. That’s all she sees. It’s me versus 8 people.

The people in charge at Hockey Canada at the time of the hush money have been let go and replaced with new people with a mandate not to act in that manner in the future.

How do you propose to punish Hockey Canada which is not a person but an entity without punishing countless of innocent people unnecessarily.

Please put your pitchforks away leave the mob mentality at home and don’t start a riot of do - gooders trying to right your morale concerns.

The wheels of justice are taking care of the situation.
yeah this is where the fun begins. How often has big business been penalized for something "former bosses" did?--All the time.

Canadians just believe because they are Canadian that they are untouchable when it comes to hockey. Sweden fired a warning shot at these last jr games. I am 99% the IIHF will do something to hockey Canada. It would be just a darn shame if the IIHF takes away 2025 games from Ottawa and out them in say Vegas, Seattle or somewhere else and uninvite Canada to these games while they do their "Own investigation". This would be within their rights.

The IIHF has already taken previous actions against countries who did things they were unhappy. It appears to me, that some Canadians, not all, are down playing just how bad this is for Canada and it was not just one or two people who interfered with the investigation or one or two people who tried to cover up the investigation And the fact Canada ALREADY had a hush money account in place prior to this problem coming to light. My guess? Sweden and Finland, who usually do not get along are going to make a request for a formal IIHF investigation. Many posters are also down playing "how does it concern them". The team participated in an event the IIHF organized and that is their in.

Seems to me some Canadians have an entitlement to be above everyone when it comes to hockey. The Swedish warning shot is something that not many posters paid a lot of attention to and something that was somewhat out of the blue. I think the guy who said wanted to see Canadas reactions

From the article above. He's in London, he's turned himself in and he's lawyered up! He will defend himself vigorously and do not judge till you hear all the evidence! Article also says several players were charged.

Also, imagine living in Switzerland and having to fly to London, Ontario in January. That has to suck. Curious when the others show up as he had the furthest distance to travel.

If you need someone to sign papers or video tape themselves saying they consented to having sex with a bunch of guys in a row, maybe you are doing something wrong.

Police generally don’t have enough evidence to charge innocent people. In fact, they usually don’t have enough evidence to charge guilty people as well.

I’m sure the lawyers and players will throw money at her and offer her a bunch of money to drop the charges because their lawyers will tell her it’s in her best interest to keep herself anonymous and have it go away as fast as possible.

Interesting it says “former NHL player,” unless I missed something I thought it was only a leave of absence.

Good thing we didn't speculate about the creepy looking dude on the team who was playing well until going unsigned, fleeing to Switzerland, and not releasing a statement with regards to his involvement in the case.

I believe that answers my question. Thanks.

It's actually becoming more and more common to do among paranoid young men prior to sexual encounters. They are taking consent lessons and getting scared for their safety rather than realizing that it's about women's safety. I've had a number of young clients who've talked about doing this or something similar.

Now doing it after the sex act and how the papers described how they did it, that screams wtf to me.

curious how long it takes for these contracts to be terminated once all the names are released.

Can teams just terminate contracts for players being charged with a crime? Seems like they would have to be found guilty first.

I think it's all a moot point anyway - as long as the accused players are staying away from the teams and not signed beyond this season, I think teams just let the rest of their contracts play out.
