After watching it a few times, I think Pelech absolutely knew what we was doing there. How often do guys stand in the neutral zone with their elbows out at 90 degrees and their stick off the ice? Dude was clearly bracing himself for something.

Hope the boys seek out some vengeance this weekend. That was some classless shit in the 3rd. They easily could've knocked out our top 2 centers 3 games before the playoffs start, and like always the league turns a blind eye to it.

Completely agree, I was pretty much alone on this in the GDT when it happened and people were calling BS. Lol

Horrible missed call at the end, the only way I can understand it is if Sutherland was looking up at the puck to make sure it didn't hit the netting and he didn't really get a focused view of the hit bc he was looking so high up. The back official isn't going to call it bc it's considered Sutherland's call based on his proximity. Either way it's a horrible miss and quite honestly I'm glad Vinny managed to walk to the locker room after getting a misconduct rather than have to go on a stretcher. Just a bad bad miss.
It was. But that also wasn't why we lost the game. If we don't have that abomination of a first period, that missed all at the end probably doesn't matter.

We seem to be a good 3rd period team. I'll take that. Just hope it's not cause we are always losing going into the 3rd and the other team goes into the shell.
As I mentioned in the GDT, they can't go into the playoffs and continue this trend of only playing approximately 20 minutes. Falling behind 3-0 in the playoffs against better teams is pretty much a death sentence.

Last night's game is something I fear in the playoffs with our team:

We failed to start the game well. Didn't match the intensity of our opponent. The opponent earned their goals, fluky as they might have been, by simply outworking us leading to 3-0 deficit.

Now we have to chase the game. Needed PPG against the league's worst PK to climb back in it. Nothing at 5v5. They neutralized that with solid goaltending and blocked shots. The Panarin line didn't have much impact at all. If they don't score at ES, then we're not going to go far. I have a hard time seeing how the Mika line is just going to start potting in ES goals as soon as the postseason starts. Power plays will likely be few and far between.

Oh... I hate losing to that team. So maybe what I just wrote is out of frustration considering the regular season we have had this year. But it ain't going to mean shit if we flame out in the playoffs.

To me that Mika incident was whatever, glad he is fine. But oh boy Dobson better get ready for Saturday. And considering Laviolette's comments. He's always been like this, team first mentality. Even after the Wilson/Panarin event he said "I thought it was just a scrum".

Im glad this team is facing these type of events. I don't want anyone to get injured but better get that tempo and feeling up to the maximum before playoffs.

Zibanejad 100% was not looking and skated into Pelech on his own, and Pelech just rolled up and stopped. Both looking at one end of the ice and kinda just...drifting.

Unintentional hit, easily, but I don't blame Lavi for defending his guys. Next Isles game gonna be silly drama theatre now that the fanbases have been fed.

"Their desperation level, their intensity, their attitude was higher than ours out of the gate," Rangers captain Jacob Trouba said of the Isles, who took a 3-0 lead. "...It's something we can look at, and that's the level we gotta get to to start ramping our game up for the playoffs."

Yeah. No shit.

Islanders came out more desperate than the Rangers at home in a game they couldnt afford to lose and we could, news a 11. They still were incredibly lucky Varly and the refs bailed them out late.

No issue with what Laviolette said either. As usual Islanders fans doing their whole, "it wasnt dirty! just a hard/unintentional hit". They used that one before when Matt Martin jumped into Trouba's head and concussed him a few years ago. I also have no issue if the Rangers are out for blood Saturday. We have lots of receipts to pay them.

I don't think there's any question that Rempe is going to be in the next one because of those two hits. Laviolette was seething in that very short press conference after the game. I think both Pelech and Dobson better have their heads up and come ready to defend themselves whether they want to or not because a bit of message sending is on the way.

Penalties are called more in the playoffs, not less.

the mika play looks like a complete accident. the only thing that gives me any pause is pelech's reaction. i've never seen someone accidentally collide with another player and not immediately turn to see if they're ok...so pelech's reaction like "what did i do?" does seem a bit odd. who knows...if it gets the rangers to come out with some piss and vinegar and blast them on saturday then lavi pushed the right button.

Get used to it. Piles fans are the worst. 2 weeks ago they were crying about how bad their team was and now they are chirping because they barely hung on and won a game. A lot of people on this board weren't around when these teams last met in the playoffs 30 years ago. It's a hoot. Not worried about that team at all.

All fans are the same.

“This is a bad hockey team”

Then proceeds to make the SCF.

It would be nice if the other leaders took care of business and not to rely on a 21 year old rookie. Maybe Kreider should do something, he did this when Hank got ran into from Eakin. No excuse now. Trocheck I won’t be shocked if he does something considering what happened at the end of the game. Trouba should lay out Barzal if he can actually catch him.

Trouba couldn't even beat his guy, whoever it was, for an icing in the 3rd Period. And the Islanders are not a fast team.

without checking, i have no trouble believing this is true. i'd imagine any data is comprehensive and strictly total penalties/total games average, which probably doesn't tell the whole story.

doubt there's retrievable data anywhere to break it out or that its already aggregated somewhere but would be interesting to see how those numbers break down from game 1 to 7 of a series and round by round. also not sure what the current numbers reflect...like i think refs can be a bit more trigger happy handing out miscos late in playoff games that are over and the emotions are boiling over...the kinda thing that might influence penalty numbers but irrelevant in terms of how many pp's teams are getting.
