That's not how you look at it, the team is better, smaller long term commitment to player salary and better foundation to build on for 2015. Watch tonight and see even without a practice how much faster the Rangers look. PP should be awesome too.

Ryan Callahan is a pretty fast guy. We got faster, but not a ton more.

we also got a little less gritty.

I think our POsession game will improve drastically though, Ryan Callahan, for all his good, makes a lot of dumb turnovers that are unforced, usually thanks to blind area passes. MSL, not so much.

I won't vote in your poll, because my opinion will be from the opposite side. However, I come in peace.

Despite my screen name (which will be changing), I'm a St. Louis fan first, not a Lightning fan. I've been fan of his since his days at UVM as I played hockey in prep school not far from Burlington. I'm a native New Yorker, stranded in Vegas now, but ironically I've never been a Rangers fan before today.

A lot of what has been in the media about the trade demand etc. doesn't tell the entire story, so I hope that you guys as a fan base won't judge Marty based on the way the media has painted his behavior over the last couple months. Hell, Marty first requested a trade to NYR more than 5 years ago, he's long wanted to be a part of this team.

As far as who he is, most of you I'm sure have a general idea, but he's a guy that goes so far beyond the numbers he'll put up on the score board. He's one of the hardest workers out there, typically the first guy on the ice and the last guy off. He's great with young players, taking them under his wing and working with them. He knows the game incredibly well, he truly is a student of the game. You'll never find a guy with a bigger heart or more dedication to succeed at his craft.

Off the ice, he's a quiet guy. You won't get a ton of post-game quotes out of him, but he rarely turns down a media request. It'll be interesting to see how he handles the spotlight of NYC and the media demands that will be on him. He's coming from a small, non-traditional, market.

Either way, he'll leave his heart on the ice for you guys. I hope the Rangers have all the success in the world while he's there and I look forward to interacting with everyone a bit more on this board.

I like the trade with the 2nd coming back if he resigns. It's a strap price to pay but that's what real top tier talent costs. I still think we should have also went after Hemsky so we had 3 good scoring lines but that belongs in another thread. A 3rd+5th round pick is nothing.

I love this trade. Food for thought follow along with me. If the Rangers in the off season sign Ryan Callahan they only give up two picks for a top 5 player in the NHL right now I think as Rangers fans we would be thrilled. Also on a separate note not bringing back Brad Richards would be stupid unless you plan on replacing him with Patrice Bergeron or David Backes. Tell me how this is better without Brad?

Hagelin Richards (St Louis<---he will lead us ALA Messier)
Kreider Stephan Zuccerelo<---Loved this line
Pouliet Brassgod Miller
who cares/Moore I hope he's back/Carcillo Who I wonder if his high level will tail off we will see. Dump Nash and his salary get a ****in pick for him he is so terrible. Yes he had that run of goals and yes Lunquist is a few assists behind him so umm get our picks back and dump his salary!

I thought he played very well... He did a lot of things right, it's just tough to see because he's not on the score sheet.

He's pretty quick for a 38 year old, really quick... This team looks faster already, and from a subjective point of view, St. Louis was probably tired.

Flew from St.Louis to tampa bay to NY in about 24 hours and played 2 games. Tired is putting it mildly IMO.

Just to add, he had back to back games on Saturday and Sunday, game on Tuesday then played today in NY, 4 games in 5 days, if you go back even further it's 5 games in the last 7 days as Tampa played on the 27th as well.

That being said, he had a lot more energy in NY today than he's had with Tampa in awhile.

Looked dynamic out there. Had good chemistry with Richards. The points will come if they keep playing like that. Definitely a huge upgrade over Callahan in the offense department. Nice to see an elite talent on the team.

This might be the best offensive forward we have had since Jagr (outside of two ridiculous seasons by Gaborik). But even Gaborik at his best, isn't as dynamic as St. Louis is.

He is the real deal. A top-10 offensive forward in the NHL in my opinion. Has a ton of great abilities, and it showed.

he is a tough player, and very vocal out there. You can tell he is a winner. I hope he can lead us into the playoffs and beyond

Probably adrenaline.

Why did he only want to ne on the Rangers, though? Was he a fan growing up or something? I don't think him living close is the only reason.

Maybe Brad Richards is a reason? he also enjoys broadway shows and the up and down winter weather of NYC

His wife and sons live in Connecticut year-round. He basically lived on the road during the season when he played with Tampa. Home only during the summer months. Now he can have a more normal lifestyle, and be there for his family.

His instincts and speed are eye popping. Despite the size, I think you need Zucc on the left side when he returns. Hagelin doesn't have the offensive game. I might even try Brassard with Nash and Kreider. Stepan's lack of speed just kills that line at even strength, though the other 2 haven't been good either.

I love how everyone is seeing Marty how us in Tampa have seen him the last 10+ years!

Now you all are seeing why he's a HoFer.

Imagine what he was like 5-6 years ago!

imagine what he can do for a player like Zuccarello who is also a small feisty forward. if St.Louis can teach a thing or too, to some of the youth on this team and in the organization, it can work wonders for their development.

Oh I certainly was aware of what he could do especially since he's burned Hank multiple times with backhand snipes over the shortside shoulder in the past...

He looked pretty good for a guy with no practice time and all that. I wanted to kill Hagelin for overpassing to him way too often but hopefully they'll sort that out.

Maybe i'm just off but I thought MSL was REALLY ****ing good last night, at least in the first two periods (missed the third).

Really excited to have him on this team.

Wow, you could have been talking about Callahan.

He was great. Always creating something. Wasn't our game last night, but i'm sure he's not done impressing us.

I said that about you once, I was wrong.

MSL has at least three years left in him at his current level then he'll tail off a bit, his hockey sense allows him to play at a high level without putting his body through unnecessary wear and tear. I saw him spin away from a few checks last second last night, his vision allows him to do that. On top of that being a fitness guru never hurts.

It was fun to watch him last night. It seemed as though he was moving faster than the game or rather the game was slowing down for him, he is fun to watch with the puck because it seems like he can see what might happen before it happens. It was cool to see, I gladly welcome to the Rangers.

Its funny how an elite player like MSL makes you realize that Rick Nash is just a really good player.

MSL played against St. Louis--flew back to TB--got traded and flew to NYC all within 24 hours--no time to practice--no doubt he was on adrenaline. He and his line mates were over passing all game long--Hagelin has a real bad habit of passing up shots. The line looked dangerous at times but really Hagelin is a 2nd-3rd line winger and Richards is not a legit 1st line center anymore. MSL at 38 is a level above both of them.

Only had one pwp last night--an area that MSL excels at. He could be a real difference maker there.
