NYR Record since the St Louis trade
4 - 3 - 1
All three of these losses were lowscoring, one goal games that could/should have given a point on a team desperate for a playoff spot

23 goals scored - 17 goals against

MSL 8 GP - 0 G - 3 A - 3 Pts - 0,38 PPG pace (before trade 62 GP - 29 G - 32 A - 61 P - 1,00 PPG). Salary = $6,500,000. Caphit = $5,625,000
Rash 8 GP - 3 G - 2 A - 5 Pts - 0,63 PPG pace (before trade 40 GP - 19 G - 10 A - 29 P - 0,725 PPG). Salary = $7.800.000. Caphit = $7.800.000
Beaver 8 GP - 0 G - 2 A - 2 Pt - 0,25 PPG pace (before trade 62 GP - 16 G - 28 A - 44 P - 0,71 PPG ). Salary = $9.000.000. Caphit = $6.666.667

Big 3 only has 10 points since the Cally trade - of a total of 23 NYr goals scored SINCE DEADLINE
Considering their portion of the total cap this year that is just.... pure filth

I like when people say it's only 7 games. Well you get the guy with 19 games in the season, and you are a bubble playoff team. You don't have the luxury of waiting 40 games for him to come around. Just another reason why you don't give up future picks for this 38 year old.

Very well said.

Updated stats - like the NYR record though

Pure filth for these 3 guys taking up so much of the teams cap $pace one can say
And it is now getting to be a bigger than likeable sample size

I heard Marty and Zucc are getting along very well, and Marty is teaching him a few tricks at practice. If there is chemistry here, keep that line intact, and Marty should find the net soon.

Not at all worried, a proven performer. It will take an adjustment period of say 20 games before his confidence comes to the forefront.

I agree about the adjustment period, though 20 games seems a bit much. But, yeah...his scoring isnt there yet but he is certainly active and making an impact. And i think itll only get better. No panic.

MSL has played in this league a long time. The goals will come. The team is winning and thats all that matters. I'd rather him get hot towards the end and into the playoffs.

So St Louis who has 0 goals and 3 assists in 10 games with the Rangers is not a problem, but Stepan who leads the team in points is the problem. I love how guys like Nash,St. Louis, Callahan, Lundqvist all get free passes all the time, but your leading scorer is the problem.

Interesting. This was not communicated in advance of the trade deadline.

Sounds like it'd been pretty important considering he was acquired with 19 games remaining in the season.

The first part of this is the reason why I'm not so sure about the second of it.

The team is winning and thats all that matters.

That's giving him quite the pass.

I'd rather him get hot towards the end and into the playoffs.

Gotta make the playoffs...

Odd that Ryan Callahan hasn't needed a grace period to get acclimated. And if MSL's confidence this that paper thin, that's a larger issue.

LOL! This!!!

Callahan has 5 point (2 G, 3 A) in his last 8 games with Tampa, got a star of the game in 3 of those games, and Tampa's has not lost in regulation in that time frame.

But lets go back further, he has 11 points in his last 16 games, and was a star of the game for 4 of those.

It's not even the point production but everything else he is bringing to the table. and people say he is declining. LOL! Some Ranger fans are so naive, because Cally's season has been up and down due to fluke injuries, not from just natural slumps. The last injury truly set him back, when he lost his position on the PP when he got back. He was starved of points by AV

Now with Tampa he has been a major factor on the PP, and their PP has been 7 for 30 (Cally getting a goal and assist, and was on the ice for 4 others, making key plays to keep the puck in the zone and screening the goalie) Rangers PP has been 2 for 31, (Not counting that EN goal last night)

Also, Cally has 5 PPG this season, top Ranger has 6 PPG between 3 players and all 3 of them have played more games, and had more PP chances.

I hope and pray he continues to be successful with Tampa.

The thing we can hope for is that opposing teams see MSL as more of a threat than Callahan and adjust their defense accordingly. With Nash and MSL on separate lines, it becomes more of a matchup problem for the other team, and hopefully if one of the lines is getting the attention of the top defensive pair of the other team, then the other line should get better scoring chances.

In theory....

Nash and Callahan never get or got free passes outside of coming back from injuries. Not saying Stepan has been bad lately, but not-so-good players are still able to amass points while not playing all that well.

God you guys are so fickle. You can't look at this trade every day, game, period, it doesn't work like that. Besides Callahan was the one who won't sign a reasonable contract, blame him, not the players or the management.

When you acquire him for the last 1/4 of the season, how else are you supposed to look at it?

The fact Callahan forced the Rangers hand by not signing put the whole trade situation in motion. The only objective way to view the trade is after the season and playoffs, hopefully. And don't be surprised if Callahan resigns with the Rangers next year anyway. By the way you need to look over at least half a season to gauge a trade, and that's short.

It speaks volumes about this organization that we can bring in the current Art Ross winner and elite goal scorer, and he puts up a goose-egg in his first ten games here.

You knew we weren't getting Sidney Crosby, but it was the best trade available at the time and shows the Rangers mean business. If it gets some of the pending free agents to sign that will be a big help. You need to look at the big picture, even though as fans we just want to win the cup. I have seen this before as I am a Rangers fan since 1968, things don't always work out the way we'd like.

It sends a message that the a Rangers mean business? Looks more like business as usual to me.

They usually don't work out the way we'd like. Answer two things for me:

1) Why are you ignoring the picks the Rangers sent to your big picture analysis?

2) Why did the Rangers have to trade Callahan?

Ok, tell us, how and when can we look at it?

What does any of this have to do with anything?

Seriously.

Why do people keep bringing up Callahan's unwillingness to resign to a reasonable deal. So because Callahan wasn't re-signing we HAD to trade for a 38 (almost 39) year old MSL. I don't understand the connection here.
