QB does not get launched to 1C this coming season on any planet, if he even gets his own line it's the 3rd
danault did not come here to be a 3C

logic dictates you admit wrongdoing and move PLD to top line wing(rewarded for sucking, love it) with kopi and kempe
danault centers moore and whoever
byfield gets to champion a line and go in raw against 3rd liners with fiala
4th line whoever's good out of camp

I believe Danault did come here knowing that he would get a more offensive look for the beginning of his contract but that long term would be #3C. That was the vision I was sold and it still holds true IMO.

Number the lines all you, I don't think it matter too much as LA has three lines that should be playing over 15 min. Just run with whatever line is going in that game. Give more o-zone starts to QB/PLD line, and more D-Zone starts with Danault line. Kopitar line used in any situation.

Hoven with a list of assistant candidates he thinks may be on the Kings radar: Five Candidates for LA Kings Open Assistant Coaching Spot

Short summary:
Greene and Stoll aren't likely, despite familiarity with the org. They're looking for more experience with coaching.

Newell Brown
Lane Lambert
Brad Larsen
Brad Lauer
Davis Payne
Interesting set of potential candidates, Payne seems the most intriguing. Brown had a lot of offense to work with in Anaheim. The others were lunch pail blue collar type players, and while that approach may not be sexy, this team didn't exactly lace up their boots and get to work last year.

I really like this list of candidates. There are *some* connections, but it seems to be secondary to what they can actually bring.

My only problem with Fiala (other than dumb penalties) was that he was picked up at the wrong time. He's a guy you trade for when your team is complete but you need that extra scoring touch to get you over the top (ala Gaborik). Not someone to grab during a "rebuild" when the team isn't built.

Also, I hated what the Kings gave up for Fiala. Minnesota couldn't resign him and LA had them over a barrel, but instead just gave them full value. We could have given up a Grans/Bjornfot/Madden + 2nd and gotten him but they gave up way to much.
85 point scoring forwards aren't cheap. You're not getting him for for a bunch of mid prospects, a low 1st LHD and a 2nd.

If there is any level of truth to that list, it’s a refreshing bit of perspective compared to what I was expecting.

Maybe there is like… a little hope for a systems change that gel’s with the current roster a little bit.

You make it sound so easy and it's not. Obviously Blake tried to trade lesser assets before incoming sophomore slumping Faber.

I'm confused as to what you are saying.

Blake did not trade Faber after his freshman year "before incoming sophomore slumping", it was after his sophomore year, when he had already beaten out top 4 picks Power and Hughes to win B10 defenseman of the year and shined at the Olympics.

I do wonder if Danault was promised power play time when he signed.

There's no real difference between the lines and their time on ice per game. Kopitar, Danault, and Dubois all came in around 13 minutes per game at 5 vs 5 for the season. The difference in total ice time comes from special teams time. Kopitar and Danault both do PP and PK while Dubois didn't kill penalties. Kopitar played on PP1 and played roughly one minute more per game than Danault.

The Kings still need to get better on the power play next season. PP2 was not very effective. Danault is not really a good power play guy. Hiller should consider taking Danault off the power play and using different personnel.

Maybe or maybe not but you shouldn't immediately offer a top prospect and a 1st to a team that had no chance to afford him under the cap. They had to move him because of the Suter and Parise buyouts and the new Kaprizov contract. The Kings definitely had the upper hand in negotiations but folded to be "nice" and gave Minnesota fair value to start.

So far, Kevin Fiala is an 85-point forward the same way Kopitar is a 92-point forward; they've both done it exactly once in their career.

Maybe it was a bad idea to pay the going rate for an 85-point forward?

No Herbys

I am calling for a sophomore slump in the NHL.

Pretty common, guys know who he is now and will be more keyed up on him.

Faber's offensive numbers will very likely come down, no dispute from me on that. I don't know if he has many seasons where he scores close to 50 points. Defensively he will continue to get better and better, and his ceiling is to be the best defensive d-man in the NHL.

Regarding Faber! We traded the harder piece to acquire because Blake f***ed up the evaluation.

It is what it is. He has f***ed up a lot. Not a damn thing matters until AEG decides to move on. Blake and Luc are not going to all of a sudden turn this chicken shit into chicken soup. You can rearrange the furniture all you want your still missing a sofa and have 3 coffee tables in this living room.

Total fail in playoffs, might as well try some drastic changes and mixing of what were the 2 units.

Although the 2nd unit did not get as much time and at times were really sparingly deployed.

Got it!

No need to repeat it , ever.

I don’t want Lane Lambert mainly due to a personal dislike of his brother, who I knew in my early stats nerd days. He got pissy over being minus 3… so I recounted every goal and his exact position on the ice. He was a right jerk to me and I was only 16. He ended the conversation still minus 3. Anyway whilst I don’t like him if Lane is like his brother then he might bring some needed locker room sandpaper.

Edit: I realize the 16 year old kid still feels bitter about the above issue. Even more bitter about releasing the import signed to cover Lambert when he was injured. Oleg Sinkov over a several week period played lights outs and the team played its best hockey all year. Unfortunately the coach seemed to want to be Lamberts mate so he came back after his knee (
IIRC) healed, Sinkov went elsewhere and scored a bunch. We then proceeded to suck and Lambert underwhelmed massively…. Yeah I’m definitely still bitter about that. I went on a scouting trip with the GM after the coach was fired in a bid to resign Sinkov…. Unfortunately despite tapping him up he’d already resigned for the following season. He was a superb player (in the context of it being a garbage level league - pre Euro Elite days).

What's the metric on that? I don't keep up on advanced stats where they can now measure how tightly a player ties his skates, but it's notoriously hard to quantify defensive anything, so what metrics are being used to determine if he is better, worse, or in between?

ah come you bandwagon fake kings fans, 2012-2014 was an anomaly

so much so, that some oldschool kings fans were complaining over Lombardi/Hextall/Sutter; they were not use to having a winning culture in LA

so now, w/ BLuc, we're back to good old Kings culture

embrace it

WE
ARE
KINGS!
