Roy catches most of the ire from people here, for a myriad of reasons, but Gavrikov was the one who was truly horrendous down the stretch last year.

Hopefully he was just struggling with the injury, and it’s not indicative of what he is becoming.
Gavrikov will walk in the offseason just like Roy and the Kings will have nothing to show for trading that 1st round pick to get him before they were ready to contend.

To be honest, I’d rather he walk than the Kings pay what he will get on the open market.

Would put the rebuild in a much better spot to have one less bloated contract on the books.

Gavrikov was great up until April where he became completely undone. Especially against Edmonton.

And the worst part about letting him walk is the fact the Kings traded a steep price for him, and then moved contracts to free up spot to re-sign him. And only got 2 year contract from that entire ordeal. Gavrikov was an extremely expensive acquisition when you look at his acquisition cost but also what it took to retain him

Roy was a very good player here, and one whose value over the past two seasons would have probably been more apparent had he played with a puck moving LHD as opposed to a misplaced Durzi and near mirror image in Gavrikov.

The Kings needed to make room for progress. He was an asset that they foolishly wasted. But Roy will likely do well as a calming influence on-ice in Washington on a team that could be a total shit show next year with a faded record chaser and a total dud crapping his way thru a fourth organization as the lead stories.

yeah that's a huge stretch to use as a reason for leaving, he's obviously joking around, one look at that face tells you he's a dry humor guy
Thats not THE reason you leave. Dancing after beating the worst team in the league and getting routed the next day in Dallas is a good reason. They arent a serious winning team plus he can make more money elsewhere. Its the whole picture.

Best case scenario is we're so far out of the playoffs by TDL that we can trade Gavrikov & Jeannot and hopefully get back what we paid for them.

That'd give the next front office a decent starting point in the off season.

We might have to trade Kempe too :/

I would re-sign Jeannot and let Gavrikov walk. Tons of UFA D out there next year including Jakob Chychrun.
Letting UFAs walk is a luxury for a team that goes deep in the playoffs. The Kings are not in that team.
The Kings could have had at least a first rounder for Roy and Gavrokov would fetch a similar return

We paid a 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th for Gavrikov and Jeannot.

Would be nice to get those back.

I guess you could argue the 3rd was for Korpisalo.

If Jeannot is playing great he's worth a lot. Gavrikov has an NMC.

How many teams that look like they are going to the playoffs at the TDL trade a top 4 D?

ZERO!!!!

Addendum: Incorrect

The correct answer is very few.

Their cosplay-make-believe-contender mindset dictated so many bad decisions. Moving Roy last season deadline or before was totally rational - since you had Spence ready for 2RD and Clarke ready for protected minutes at 3RD. You get a 1st for Roy and maybe you make another small move to upgrade 3LD since you'd have cap space. It was just another in a long line of asset minimizations as was Gavrikov.

Which is extra stupid because they're going into this season with basically that exact pairing anyway

year after year after year the slow boil thing ruins the team

Playoffs 3 years in a row

24: Lost 4 games to 1 against Western Conference Champs

23: Lost 4 -2 to a Team that lost to the eventual Stanley Champ.

22: Lost 4-3 to a Team that lost to the eventual Stanley Champ.

THERE IT IS.

The on-paper reality that many here ignored while rambling on in a we're the victims fashion

On paper that's the reality!

32 teams only 16 goes to the playoffs.

Ruined is not quite the word I would use.

Disheartening, yes!

Causing psychological problems, yes!

If you think the Kings were winning a round last season, I have a bridge and a giant rock of crack to sell you
Losing to the West Champs does not necessarily mean they could not have won a round or two against lesser opponents.

Sorry Lift Tesla Dan!
