Im still not a 100% on Woody, he could prove me wrong
I'm also on record as saying the turnaround last season was on the players & not really a coaching thing but no coach deserves a "Fire <enter coaches name here>" thread 2 months into their 1st season because their 1 goalie can't stop anything & their other guy is a raw rookie. Some stuff can't be solved overnight like some posters here think.

Yes. This. But that requires some critical thinking skills.
Similarly, I like the guys who are/were on the fire Holland bandwagon (shockingly silent now) but say "Oh, that was before the trade deadline". Amazingly enough, trades lotsa trades get made as a deadline nears. More shocking news at 11.

Well, I also stand by my "this thread is ridiculous" comment.

The "Fire Woodcroft" thread is also idiotic even though I called that 1 would be made before Feb 2023.

There was no Fire Woodcroft thread. There was a Woody was the Wrong Guy Hire Trotz thread which died the day he was hired for the GM job of the Preds.

I said then and say now he’s an average rookie coach making a lot of rookie mistakes. Thankfully he seems to be learning from his mistakes quickly. He’s not terrible but I still hate his breakout.

That said the boys are winning so not going to belabour the point.

Well it seems then this is the Look How Smart I Am thread now.

Funny as everyone posting here has made dumb comments and formulated opinions that turned out to dead wrong. Including you.

You can say whatever you want, that very predictably turned into a "Fire Woodcroft" thread very, very quickly.

I can say whatever I want as I was the guy who started the thread. I don’t control what others write but I was clear throughout the OP and entire thread what the point was. Trotz was the guy and Woody wasn’t and posted a clear rationale as to why.

But don’t break your arm patting yourself on the back.

I apologize.

I always thought a "stop employing somebody & then replace that person with somebody more to my liking" would constitute a thread about firing.

I guess I got a lot to learn about how to rationalize things.

Yet people were on the fire Holland bandwagon, despite inheriting that roster (or close enough). Compared to now (or even pre trade deadline).
And not having traded away our future in the process.
Its unbelievable
Up until the Ekholm trade he was seen as being too slow moving and also overpaid the hell out of Nurse. There has definitely been good and bad during his tenure here. That said the Ekholm acquisition was absolutely massive.

The Nurse was an overpay in retrospect. But so was Jones, who set the bencchmark, as well as Werenski. But even at that the story has a loooong way to be fully told.
The other thing that is seemingly lost on the fire Holland knee jerkers is that lets say Nurse then walks. Then what?

Then you have the cap to go after a Karlsson or another 1D. It would've hurt us in the short term, but may not have been a bad thing long term.

Yeah the team was barely holding onto a playoff spot at one point. It hasn’t been all sunshine and rainbows. I never thought he was a bad GM I just didn’t think he had it in him to take us the next step. Clearly I was wrong because he just had one of the best TDLs in the league.

He has added Hyman, Kane and Ekholm to an already solid core. The Ekholm trade was a huge one.
He also flipped Samorukov for Kostin. Bear for Foegel. Bjugstad has been a great depth piece too. Hollands made lots of smart little moves.

The biggest question mark though among Hollands acquisitions is Campbell. As we saw last night, he can be fairly hot and cold. Mostly cold though. Goalies are incredibly hard to predict.

It’s always been such a ridiculous idea.

Holland has definitely had some misses but his overall body of work since arriving has been solid. We’ve improved basically every year, making the conference finals last season, he’s surrounded 97/29 with plenty of skill, turned the bottom 6 from one of the worst to one of the best, added size and physical elements this team has sorely lacked for a long time. Then tops it all off by being patient and getting the right guy in Ekholm who’s got term, as well as another forward who’s having a great season, who adds a right shot pk’ing Center who can win a draw, another area where we were weak.

And he did it all without giving up any of our best prospects who are closest to contributing or gutting our future draft capital.

And got rid of JP which has helped the roster as well. They are a much better team without him weighing down McDavid or whatever line he was on. the bottom 6 is suddenly much improved also. Shocker. Lol.

Good point. I don't know what our record without JP is but I'm betting it's very good.

I absolutely loathed the campell and nurse contracts. This is probably the best I ahve seen this team in a very long time. While I still don't like the contracts, I don'ty think it will matter if they push for a cup.
