We have yet to see a big splash type of a trade that could take us over the top. Chychrun might be that player yet we are apparently allergic to the idea. The way that our salary structure is we cannot add a guy that makes $6 million or more at full cap. Chychrun is at a very reasonable cap hit for what he brings to the table. Holland needs to make a move to improve our defense and PK or this team is going nowhere.
This is the reality of Ken Holland. It was pointed out when he was hired. The guy doesn't make impact trades. Doesn't draft well. And overspends on depth players.

He doesn't do anything well and lots poorly.

Pretty much living up to everything Red Wings fans warned us about, same deal. Poor drafting, non existent ability to trade, hands out some terrible contracts with maximum term.

Anna Kane honestly delivered the Oilers the best player they've added in the McDavid era, lol. Anna Kane > Holland > Chiarelli.

Connor McDavid is in the prime of his career, on pace for a legendary 70G 154P season.
Draisaitl is quietly putting up a 50G 130P pace.
Yet we are barely sniffing a playoff spot.

Unbelievable.
They put up even better numbers in playoffs last season and ppl somehow wanted to attribute the run to Ken Holland despite him not drafting or signing either player :biglaugh:

It will take McDavid a 150 point season to drag the team to the last WC spot. Holland's defenders will refer to the team again making playoffs, giving credit to what a great GM he has been.

It's honestly a disgrace this team isn't battling for #1 in the division at the least.

It's an embarrassment, team should be no.2 in the division in their sleep, but horrendous drafting and management that lets persistent issues fester forever are like a 300 pound anchor on McDavid's shoulders.

Even if they do the whole "don't worry we'll get Kane back on go on a heater to end the season" ... that really shouldn't be the expected norm here anymore. It's a testament to stupid management that its become acceptable here.

I haven't seen a single person on this (or any) thread yet claim that Ken Holland deserves a shred of credit for McDavid's brilliant play, so you can probably stop trying to erect that silly strawman.

The team probably will be no. 2 in the division by the end of the season. Currently, they're 2 points better than they were last season at this stage. Where you are after 36 games really jack squat.

"Horrendous drafting" in the Holland era is really too early to judge. Holland has presided over only three (?) or four (?) drafts.

You'd have to give examples of "management that lets persistent issues fester forever", as I don't know what you're referring to.

So to recap, we are about to enter the fourth calendar year of Ken Holland’s reign. In that time he has:

-Had his choice of forwards
-Had his choice of defensemen
-Had his choice of goalies
-Had his choice of coaches (x2)
-Had his choice of first round picks (because he refuses to trade them for help now)

The result: a wildcard team with the two best players on the planet 3.5 seasons into his tenure.

If you still support Ken Holland, you are an idiot. There is really no way other way to say it. You are an imbecile, and should take no offense to being called as such because the evidence is so clearly against you. What Holland has done to date is not the work of a competent professional but an absolute fool, and the proof sits before us today. If you want to white knight him, by all means do so, but don’t get upset when people suggest you lack any and all intelligence; it’s the only fair conclusion a person can arrive at.

Holland’s one saving grace (Klim) got Edmonton’d tonight.

His biggest sieve Campbell continues to suck.

We're well past the point where Katz/Nicholson need to admit the guy that put the team into this mess isn't going to get them out of it.

Even putting aside his incompetence, there's no way Bob Nicholson should still be employed by this organization. Holland is bad at his job but at least he's not covering things up.

....I hope.

It's also thoroughly disappointing that GMKH can't seem to manage any 'win win' deals. He talks about how you can't squeeze other GMs. Okay, but you are a dinosaur in a dinosaur society. Where are the "You scratch my back, I'll scratch yours" type of deals you would expect from a veteran GM?

I'm sure Kenny will blame flat cap for a lot of his issues, but we all know that if there was no flat cap he would just be throwing out more money and more term to all the wrong players.

That just isn't Holland. He doesn't make trades.

The three best non-rentals he's traded for since Todd Bertuzzi in 2007 is Duncan Keith, Kyle Quincey(traded the pick that turned into Vasilevsky for him) and Brad Stuart.

Kostin might legitimately be in his top5 trades over the past 16 years. It's that bad. I'm not sure if he's even added a meaningful non-rental under the age of 35 since the 90s.

edit: Just realized both Quincey and Stuart were rentals that he extended. The guy literally can't trade for players with term.

Kostin is probably the only win trade he's made since he's been here and that's so, so depressing.
