You can’t just add all the expensive players, there is a budget and a salary cap.

Adding Eichel would have cost a Tuch equivalent like Batherson and probably Stutzle or Sanderson. Does that make us better, maybe but probably not. It also doesn’t mitigate losing Norris.
I was okay moving Pinto or Norris for Eichel. Big center with immense skill and his contract will look like a steal soon

I don't mind Debrincat and like that move. There were also defensemen avaiable the last 3 years that we 'missed' out on

Plus the other coaches you fired. DJ likely makes 1 and change million per year.
Who knows, maybe they choose Bowness as GM.
That's what I think. Bowness came in at the same time as the team for the new lebreton bid was announced right? The Finacial officer came back, I forget her name. It was all so neat, tidy and fast. The league had this all set up. I bet when the new owners get the deal agreed on they meet with CFO , Bowness and others, and before the months of paper work are done, start making the changes that need to be done. They can't wait until June..gotta get moving!

I doubt Buffalo would have settled for anything less than one of our top 2 prospects, I doubt it would have been worth it. Hopefully the next GM starts by getting us a couple rugged D.

Everyone is loyal and thinks it's tough and brave until the bill comes due and someone has to pay for all the failures, then we'll see Dorion blame everything on DJ and praise himself for supporting him too much.
News articles are saying that the new owners will likely be announced by end of Jan or Feb.
I think we're stuck with both Dorion and DJ until then. If I was buying the team, I would want to clean house and not have to pay for the interim GM and interim's coach salaries as well.

If that's true, I hope the new owners take their time and wait until the off season to make changes. Likely to be better candidates for both positions in the summer.

We have little chance not of making the playoffs this season, so there's no point in having a 'new coach rebound' in February just to push our draft pick into the 10-15 range. This draft is strong enough that any pick int he top 5 or so will be a game changer.

I am wrestling with both sides of this argument. On the one hand, tanking and trying to win the lottery would be great. On the other hand, a full season of losing teaches players that a culture of losing is acceptable. That kind of mentality is a rot to the foundation you want to build.

I doubt it. They might have some flexibility to make a short term decision on something less important like an interim coach perhaps, Right now the organization is being run by a board that has been hired by the Melnyk daughters. They are going to be focused on selling the team and getting a good return on the investment. They haven't even seen the bids yet from the proponents. Real hard if not impossible to make hockey management decisions until the ownership scenario is settled.

Read it again. I said When The Deal Is Agreed Upon. If Deadpool gets the deal in January, moves will start then...they won't wait until the paper work is done in July.

I think it would have to wait until the next BOG meeting, to get the league approval after a bidder has been chosen.

Deals fall apart all of the time in the last stages. I'd guess the process of hiring a GM, management team, etc. will take some time. All in all, I'm thinking this won't happen in January. Having said that, hope you are right.

My first post said that all this happened fast and clean, probably because of league involvement. I bet it applies here too. I hope I'm right too. I want to talk about what seats are best in the new arean and who would be better to play in the first round instead of all this crayziness.

The team management and ownership are spineless if they keep DJ past this game

I actually hate how long he has lasted this season.

This was a basic, easy, in your face decision almost 10 games ago. Killed all hope for this season by showing loyalty to a terrible coach.

Dorion is clueless
When they start seeing 10,000 or less in the stands in Ottawa he will be gone quick.

Clearly this thread isn’t working.

Should we try some reverse psychology?

Extend DJ Smith? Promote DJ Smith?

Maybe he needs to take it up a notch.

We barely even benefited from DJ Smith’s suckage over the years too. We got Sanderson which is good, but wasted our 2021 and 2022 picks (Cat isn’t staying).

We probably ruined Chabot’s career too, but hey needed them DUBS!

This team has lost all confidence, even if they get it back at some point and win a few games in a row, the season is already over!

No accountability, if a coach sucks, fire him right away before the season is lost!
