He's been here 4 years and even ardent supporters can't really point to a season where the team overacheived.

He's not got more out of a team than any random coach would have. We need better.
Strangely, there's an argument to be made that given the injuries, we're overachieving this year, the majority of preseason projections had us finishing in the 85-90 pts range, and likely weren't counting on us being one of the worst hit teams for injuries.

It's time for a coaching change imo, I wanted one to start the year, but you look at the list of teams we are competing with for that wild card spot, Fla, Pens, NYI, Buf and Det, it's a completely different world. Washington has a similar injury situation to us and went from being a 100 pts team last year to projecting towards 82-83 pts.

Not sure if I'm reading that graphic right but doesn't it imply that while we've had plenty of injuries we're still just kind of bad?

It's raw pts% not adjusted in any way, so essentially it just shows where we are in the standings

The image doesn't show who would be good if not for injuries, it's shows how well they performed, and how injured they are. You can make your own conclusions.

My point was to show that we are performing similar to teams fighting for the final wild card spot, but far more impacted by team health.

I guess that's a positive but good teams seem to overcome the injuries. That's just kind of the NHL, IMO.

We've had 5 of our top 6 F healthy, and scoring well, for almost every game. We've been without Zub for big chunks but he hasn't played very well even when healthy. We've just been OK, as our record indicates. I wouldn't call that overachieving but I guess you could interpret it that way.

I guess but only Carolina, Vegas and Colorado have more injuries and are in the playoffs so it's a bit misleading to say good teams overcome injuries, elite teams can.

I'm sure lots of people thought Washington, Florida and the Pens were all good teams expected to do better than us going into the year, but two of them likely will miss the playoffs along with us and only Washington has had similar injuries.

Honestly I know he has to go, and he will. If not both Dorion and DJ it will be just DJ. Excited to see what a coach hired not based on salary but merit will do with this team.

Still will suck to see DJ the person go, he pretty much fathered this team into the NHL. Wish him luck on whatever is next with his career.

He’ll likely be here next season, so we might as well just copy and paste this thread so we can all enjoy more outdoors time ;)

If this were game 82, it would have ended the DJ Smith era in entertaining fashion, at least. Tossed from his final game beyond the bench.

Highly doubtful him and his coaching staff survive the ownership change. Same with management. There will be a house cleaning coming as new owners will want their own people.
