Final Fantasy VII REBIRTH - Part 2

Thought the trailer was f***ing amazing, they really knocked that out of the park.
I said this in the other thread but all the grass, flowers and bushes not moving when you walk through them has gotta be fixed. First thing I noticed.
I'm sure cosmetics like that will be cleaned up. Still more than half a year now till the release.

Has anybody else noticed that in Canada, Square Enix games are priced more expensive than any other publisher? I started noticing it with forspoken and the PC release of the FF7 remake.

They’re actually priced at $93.49 where most publishers charge 89.99. Kinda cocky.

Also, I have a suspicion that the reveal or one of the reveals of rebirth is gonna be that you've actually been playing through multiple timelines/universes in any flashbacks or time skips. Im hesistant to share this because im 100% sure im right and its basically a spoiler.

So... one detail I just noticed about the Rebirth trailer is that the Bugenhagen scene is baked in CG and doesn't use the in-game character models, which means that they're almost definitely going to
give that planetarium scene the elaborate VR Shinra propaganda scene treatment from Remake.

My thoughts (OG spoilers):
* Homage to old polygons for the minigames is a nice touch
* Is it just me does something look really off about the lighting in the dim areas? It was in Remake as well, but I was hoping they'd improve that.
* Kind of looks like they might do a Godfather 2 style parallel stories from separate times/universes that converge into the big reveal thing.
* The promotional material says it ends at Forgotten Capital, which is a really bad sign to me, personally-- The story is not cohesive if you end without Sephiroth revisiting what happened in the flashback and all hell breaking loose. What happens in Forgotten Capital is not at all a conclusion, but maybe they'll move plot points around to different locations?
* My guess for the hooded guy is Zangan playing some bigger role in Rebirth, leading to story reveals.
* Special chocobos are cool, but I can't help but feel that they've robbed the experience of secrets and mysteries, somewhat. Maybe only the gold one will be optional? That could work.
* I think they might move rocket town/Cid to the third game, which makes sense and wouldn't be a big deal, IMO. It feels a bit episodically shoe-horned in in the original anyways, so you might be able to combine everything (including the iconic Palmer part) in the Huge materia sub-plot that happens later instead.

Everything else looks fun/cool, but I do not have high hopes in the writing at all.

Those sound spot on to me. I haven't dug very deep yet, but though I agree about the dim lighting, the more overworld-y stuff and different environments from Midgar all look really good. I guess this was somewhat of an inevitable big clash, given the samey-ness of the aesthetic in the first game, but that really stood out in the trailer.

I'd be really surprised if Cid was in this game. I'm actually most surprised that Vincent showed up, since I had assumed he would end up being some kind of DLC similar to Yuffie.

It makes sense that they'd save Cid and a potential aircraft for the third game, and I don't think it would be that hard to reframe his introduction somehow.

The other thing I've been wondering in passing is if Wutai will be more central in some way, but this is in part based on Wutai being my biggest blindspot from OG. I'd been doing a replay but got sidetracked 6 weeks ago, though my intention is still to pick it back up, since I've never played that part of the game. I don't know how it'd factor in here, but I've just been guessing that it would in some way due to Yuffie seemingly getting with the party early on in the new game, rather than how in OG, you can just kinda go into the woods to recruit her and then have an extra character to use or not. Just guessing blindly on this one.

Edit: just stumbled on the Dev interview right after this and saw that Wutai will not be in Rebirth, but will be in the next game. So the task is a somewhat tricky way to end this story, and then pick up with remaining storylines and the endgame in part three, and Wutai will be a part of that. There's part of me that wonders if part three will go totally off the rails from the general standard that has been set of a faithful remake with a bit of weird shit thrown in, but no indication of that beyond speculation.

That's all I have to say.

It's cool we have a date now but will it make it or be delayed a few months? Would not be shocked if in January they announce a few months delay to polish it up.

This is pretty half-baked, but I'm throwing it here just for the hell of it. Spoilers only really for basic stuff in FF7Remake and the new Rebirth trailer:

People seem to think that the closing shots of the newest trailer are just the Sephiroth fight at the end of Remake from a different angle, and this does seem to make sense after watching it a few times. What I haven't seen anyone guess at is why this rehashing would be in the new trailer, and the half-baked answer that occurred to me is that maybe it's from Zack's perspective?

Given that the party and Zack w/other Cloud seemingly passed each other in different timelines after all of this happened, this would seem to be implausible, but I can't think of a non-pragmatic explanation for the redeployed footage than this. Not sure if others have seen speculation or if maybe it's just a feature of not wanting to show too much more, since obviously they pulled out tons of stops in the trailer already.

Apparently there is a Rebirth showcase scheduled for the Tokyo Game Show on Friday and there are two demos which will be available to play there, one with Junon exploration and one with Cloud and Sephiroth.

I'm seeing some people speculate as to whether they could release a demo soon after, but it still feels a bit too early for that? Even if both demos are fully fleshed out, I would guess they wouldn't release until closer to launch. The Remake demo was one month before launch, so something coming in January makes sense. I guess maybe with the holidays and some big games launching in the fall, it could make sense to follow the hype of the trailer with a first one, but it feels like wishful thinking to me.

Demo reactions are out already, along with what is presumably a Square-approved overlay of video. It looks incredible and it sounds like people are very impressed. Watching Max Dood's video on it right now.

Yeah, I saw that too in a preview video. I'm not really someone who cares a ton about being spoiled on things, especially in this case since obviously I have played the original, but I did have the thought of going on a blackout until the game comes out when I was watching some of the previews.

I'm pretty hyped and already pre-ordered, so I don't know how much I have to gain from looking at them. That said, I would be lying if I said I wasn't hoping against hope that they'll surprise release one or both of the demos. It seems pretty obvious that the demos serve distinct purposes and aren't necessarily right for a demo of the whole game, but I'd love to dip into the more exploratory demo for myself.

One thing is for sure.. as soon as the music hits, it's impossible not to get nostalgic and hyped.

Is there a better score for a video game ever? Like not only are they all excellently composed pieces of music on their own that could play without the game itself but they perfectly encapsulate the mood, tone and theme of the entire game.

I am super biased but is this a fair take?

I agree about the music. It's way up there with my favorites and I think it's true for all FF games. I just finished 16 the other day and the music was a real standout.

I'm excited to see what might trickle out from the Tokyo Game Show, but based on all the impressions, it seems like they probably already got anything new out there through the English-speaking FF7 players.

Just watched the video, wow he really seems to think this game will be a home run. I'm really excited because I thought the first one was amazing. Though i'm not sure how i'm going to find any time to play it with my first child set to arrive in November lmao.

And I still have to finish FF16! (about 70% done)

It sounds good, but I'd take his comments with a grain of salt, personally. Max Dood always seems like a hyperbolic hype-man for the things that he's interesting in.

I'm sure that's what's next lined up. Same thing happened with Remake. Exclusive behind the scenes demos for certain sections, maybe a release of the opening of title sequence, then a demo of the entire first part released to the public afterwards, with maybe a scene or two removed?

Also, I'm the same way with spoilers, but even more extreme. They just flat out don't matter to me, personally.
