Filip Zadina is one of the biggest draft busts in NHL history.

All cards on the table - I wanted him over Brady Tkachuk at the time.

I definitely wanted Svechnikov over both - but now I'm pretty happy with Brady.
I’d say a good 70% of Sens fans were in the same boat.

Probably not among the biggest busts ever, but definitely fair to say MON/OTT/ARI were seen as flubbing it on the night of. Full credit to Ottawa for absolutely nailing it that night. HR pick. And even if you were high on Tkachuk the player, that the person has embraced Ottawa the way he has is phenomenal for them. Next to, you know, Brady re-signing was the biggest moment for that franchise since, well, relative to the need at the time, maybe the Cup run.

If you think Zadina is one of the biggest busts in NHL history you must be new to following the NHL.

End of the day, players picked around 6 overall bust a lot more than fanbases picking in that range would like to think. It's not like Kotkaniemi and Barret Hayton have exactly taken the league by storm. While objectively a worse player, guys like Dylan Strome, Zacha and Adam Larsson had massive hype attatched to them and haven't live up to it. Michael Dal Colle is playing in Finland. Griffin Reinhart was playing in Northern Ireland last year.

We want to talk biggest busts of all-time. Look at guys who went one or two and came nowhere close to living up to expectations like Alexander Daigle, Patrik Stefan, Andrei Zyuzin, etc.

Zadina is a bust relative to expectations. Was a consensus top 3 pick going into the draft. Had a ton of hype because of WJC preformamce and how he played in Halifax.

No need to gatekeep draft busts, there is ALWAYS room for more, and Zadina has his foot in the door.

I think that’s where the debate of ”bust relative to expectations“ comes in In the biggest bust debate. Zadina had so much hype surrounding him Coming out of junior and many proclaimed Detroit the winners of that draft because of Zadina falling. A lot of hype around this guy.

He still doesn't come anywhere close to biggest bust of all time levels.

He's a 6th overall pick that turned into an NHLer... Not a great one, but he still has over 150 games at 22 years old.

There's been plenty of guys drafted higher then him that finished careers with less NHL games then that.

As was said, he’s very bad, but in no way one of the worst of all time.

There was a guy drafted right in front of him who’s been much worse

Disagree.

Hayton went into that draft being ranked anywhere between 10 and 15, he had NOWHERE NEAR the hype of Zadina who was seen as essentially the consensus third best player from that draft going into it.

He was essentially 4th by central scouting since 3rd is only including the NA skaters, and Dahlin was the consensus 1OA. Plus Bob's list is much more reflective of industry opinion than McKeens, FChockey and ISS.

Is he a bust or a disappointment? He seems to still be an NHL level player, or is he only getting opportunities because of draft position? I would consider "bust" guys that were picked high and couldn't last in the NHL. Could still be a bust if he's out of the NHL in the next couple years, but if he carves out a career, I wouldn't call that a bust.

Weird thread. Even with bust relative to expectations he's not anywhere near the biggest busts of all time.

He's 22 lmfao. Been a big disappointment so far but calling him one of the biggest busts in NHL history when we have multiple top 5 picks who've failed to play 100 games in the NHL is cringe.
