Really happy with this pick. He and Ostlund were my 2 favorites at #26, but Ostlund went really early.

Speed aglore, terrific overall skating quality, skilled, and terrific at both ends of ice.
Has a great resume. Could be another suzuki. Small but skilled. His speed is what interests me most. Not worried about his size because we picked up hulk one and two in slaf and dach. They will make space for our smaller guys. Been arguing for that kind of balance for a while. I watched slafs highlight reel(and its a highlight reel of course) but he has a very Kovy like ability to hold onto the puck. I think if we can get AK to come work with the habs we could have a legit star player in him. He looks like he has the right tools.

Also Slaf is playing againts men and not 16 y/o kids where skill separates players and you can look better than you are.

Mesar reads like a larger version of marty st. and that is very good thing!

Great pick. Probably a top 3 skater, with high-end hands and passing. Damn he's smooth when you see him skate and handle the puck. I see a lot of Mats Zuccarello in him.

The hope is that he destroys CHL next year, steadily gets stronger and plays AHL in 23-24.
Is he allowed into AHL at 19 if he plays CHL at 18? Does the fact he was drafted out of Europe make it possible?

Yes. That rule refers to where you were playing (and your contract status) during your draft year. Mesar was playing in Slovakia at the time of his draft, so he is subject to the european player rules for things like playing in the AHL, or the date by which he must be signed.

He did say in his interview his preference is to come to North America. But if he goes back to Europe, he'd like to go play in SHL or Liiga.

With the war going on, I'm going to guess that the habs will press on all Europeans to come to NA to take them out of the military service by capture scenario - if the Russians go in Lithuania next that will happen in Poland, Czech, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia. (I'm not talking about Estonia, and Latvia because they are already there). I guess the DEL or the SHL are still safe from this for now.

I definitely want to see him in the OHL next season. He needs to start learning the smaller ice, quicker reaction game right away. He could really be a good one.

He will do that in Laval or Montreal. There is absolutely nothing to be gained by lining him up against teams that will ice some 16 and 17 year old players. He needs to continue to learn how to use his size and strength against men not against children.
