The fact that he's one of Slaf's best friends can't be a coincidence. Since we were drafting in the Scherbak Bermuda triangle position anyway, I like that they went for these extra intangibles

Who knows, maybe the extra motivation will actually give us an NHL player

Great pick. Probably a top 3 skater, with high-end hands and passing. Damn he's smooth when you see him skate and handle the puck. I see a lot of Mats Zuccarello in him.

The hope is that he destroys CHL next year, steadily gets stronger and plays AHL in 23-24.
This is my hope, if he lights up OHL his stock going to skyrocket.

great boom/bust pick. I hope he comes here to play junior hockey and gets a ton of playing time. He might look like a steal as he grows into his game @ the junior level. Great pick.

I like the pick! I didnt have him in my list. I know not a lot about and im not so familiar with him, but people tell he has skills, speed, upside and he's the beast from the bench press at combine so he's probably a way stronger than more think.

Like Drouin?

He has played some C for the Slovakian Junior Team, often on a line with Slafkovsky in previous tournaments.

I don't know that it's like Drouin, where we tried to convert him much later at age 23 or whatever he was when we got him.

I'd like to see Mesar in Kitchener and hopefully they use him at C.

That said, there is still Suzuki, Dach, Dvorak and Evans as our centre line in the NHL. Possibly Rem Pitlick who is capable of playing centre, and Riley Kidney and Jan Mysak in the prospect pool. I don't think the group is that weak to be honest. At 26, in this draft, you aren't getting a #1 C.

From my own list:

9-Filip Mesar LW

Deceptively fast and talended, Mesar plays a high paced game and can make high level plays at top speed. He is pretty shifty, has great edges and his feet always moving. Kid can turn on a dime and change direction with baffling ease, what makes him highly imprevisible and tough to defend. Has a high compete and is highly combative.
I love the highly “combative”! Please give us the 2nd coming of Theo!

Um, is it true that Marty Lapointe said that they factored in Mesar playing with Slafkovsky in making the pick? I certainly hope not, you don't pick a player partly because he has played with another player.
Yeah they really shouldn't have picked the Sedins together. Terrible decision.

Not until Mailloux plays more than 10 games but yeah upside wise.

I disagree. I rank him over Mesar right now, even without the 10 games reached.

Actually, I rank him 3rd, behind Slaf and Roy (and maybe Guhle).

He looks great. Another right-handed shot though, damn. Don't recall having so many RHS at center on the club and in the pipeline.
found some highlights from this season (#9 w/Team Slovakia, #10 Slovak Elite league) was impressed so can't wait to see him in the OHL next season, hope he has a great year there.
