Weren't they just measured at the combine? Mesar came in at 5'9 1/2.
Well, the top (crown) of Mesar’s head comes up to about the top of the top lip of the other guys….

Measure the top lip to the top of your own head and that’s about 6”

If he’s 5’9, that makes the other guys 6’3+

Weak shot?

How weak are we talking about here?
Are we talking about Mete/Gomez weak?

Your comment felt like a cold shower to me : (

I got muffin trauma

It doesn't look bad but it's not very strong. I don't believe he'll be using his shot to beat goalies face to face. He reminds me of a Koivu.
Mtl Gomez was absolute dog shit.

I like the idea of seeing lines with size and skill, for once, in Montreal. Maybe not a full on Legion of Doom line, but at least a Legion of Gloom, maybe? If Montreal acquired Dubois, it becomes even likelier to see such a line, but in the meantime, from what we currently have:

Slafkovsky - Monahan - Anderson?

Slafkovsky - Dach - Monahan?

Monahan - Dach - Anderson?

Slafkovsky - Dach - Anderson?

Slafkovsky - Monahan - Dach?

With Dubois:

Slafkovsky - Dubois - Monahan?
Slafkovsky - Dubois - Anderson?
Slafkovsky - Dubois - Dach?
Monahan - Dubois - Anderson?
Monahan - Dubois - Dach?
Dubois - Monahan - Anderson?
Dubois - Monahan - Dach?
Dubois - Dach - Monahan?
Dubois - Dach - Anderson?
if the only thing really affecting Monahan is his broken wrist, which turns him into more of checker/passer/shutdown/bruiser i'd be happy keeping him: and would love to see Monahan-Dubois- Anderson

Seeing how well Kulich did at the WJC and how Buffalo was trying so hard to trade for him starting at 17, I'm a bit worried that we made the wrong pick vs Mesar (and also Trikozov to consider).

Of course there's always recency bias. Can those who have seen these guys a lot more compare the three of these guys? Who has the most skill?

Thanks

Not sure why yet but he reminds me of Pleky
Makes sense. Pleky was Koivu without the intensity and grit, but also without the injuries so better skating. And somewhat better linemates.

Koivu>>>Plekanec
100% agreed. Kovalev, Subban and Markov (and Caufield, short lived) have had better stretches, but as far as I'm concerned Koivu had the better career as a Habs that I've seen (I'm 38). Some would say Price, but to me he was super inconsistent.

We need to remember what is a bad shooter. Did Scott Gomez ever reach the net?
I think Gomez gets a bad rap here. With the decline of Kovalev, the team urgently needed an effective puck transporter for their power play. Whatever his deficiencies, Gomez’s superior skating did supply this critical element.

...unfortunately, while he could skate around in circles with the puck, he normally couldn't do anything else with it and was dogshyte everywhere else on the ice...

Mesar has not played center for the last two seasons. It is very common for young top players to play center for a long time before shifting to the wing when they move up to play with better players where their strengths often play better on the wing. Of course you wouldn't know such truths from your couch but please continue to embarass yourself.

Mesar in his own words considers himself a winger but what does he know?

Are you being dense on purpose? I'm just pointing out what Lapointe said. I'm also of the opinion he could be better off as a winger, but the organization, bizarrely, went on record saying that, ideally, they see him as a C.

Weird, no?

...Guhle @ 6'3 and Slaf & Axe @ 6'4...isn't that how they are listed??...
Guhle is listed mostly as 6'2" but there are some that have him at 6'3". Slafkovsky was measured by the Habs after the draft at 6'3" and Xhekaj is listed everywhere at 6'4".

It looks like Guhle and Slaf are both 6'3" and Xhekaj is 6'4" by looking at that pic

The problem with Gomez was that he became predictable and always entered the O-zone along the boards - never through center ice -- and opposing Ds just backed off of him and let him curl back with the puck in the corner of the O-zone, preferring just to cut off his passing lanes and render him useless since he had no shot, anyhow.

But he could consistently gain the offensive zone on the power play at a time when the team had no other player with that skill.

He seems to be very good when he controls the puck so that's usually your center guy, but if he can become a Walmart version of Panarin or Kucherov I will not be disappointed.

I don't think he's going to be able to be a center in the NHL with his size, but you never know.

If DD was able to do it there's always hope!

He has the right coach that's for sure...

...fair point, but then what would usually happen??...nothing...maybe I'm being too harsh on Scotty No Hotty, but I truly don't believe so...

...anyway, even talking about Gomez pains me, so I will retire to making my smart-ass posts elsewhere...

First year he was actually pretty good and had a solid if unspectacular playoff in that little '10 conference run. But then just declined steadily and fairly quickly. Too bad he was a beauty with the Devils. Didn't quite deserve that goofy contract but he was a two way beast.

It's too early to say obviously. Kulich is a more north/south player... Mesat is much more fluid... more of a waterbug. They both would have been good picks... but you need to choose one...
I would had gone with the bigges-tallestt one. Best skater of the two. A natural center on top of that.
