It's worth remembering that we almost certainly won't get the same level of performance night in and night out as we saw last night this season, and that's okay. So don't jack the expectations up too high– it's going to be a process with ups and downs.

The way his defensive game was and the way it helped start the offensive attack, he's got a shot at the Selke.

He was really skating last night. All over the ice. He’s definitely capable of playing center if he continues to play like that. I would love to see him take a shift or two with KK.

Just watching the interview (before or after the game) and his face kinda looks familiar ... are we sure he ain't some illegitimate child of Jaromir Jagr?

Would explain his lower body.

That goal was beastly. He looked fantastic last night. It was weird to hear NBCSN team gush over young rangers. I don't think I've ever heard so much Ranger-fueled positivity coming from that team - ever.

That goal just displayed his speed. Even though he was casually gliding up the ice when Buch stole the puck and was turning it in transition, he used his subtle acceleration and slipped right by McDonagh, then Buch made a good pass through the seam. Love Chytil's skill set.

Yeah, it all certainly was on full display last night.

He had a huge hand in setting the pace for our team. Also the pressure was on him for sure, whole team called out publicly by Quinn, the team got slaughtered, Mika's status still ??, and all the old buddies were coming to the garden.

I am impressed and I love that this will hopefully push the other kids harder, seeing Chytilmania in full effect.

From what I'm reading, he looked solid on his call-up.

Hopefully he can continue to improve but I still think he'd be better served at wing for the immediate future. It opens up a lot of negatives for him at center.

Hopefully he follows a similar progression to Hertl. A lot of similarities

His best games last year were on the wing.

last night was by far the best he’s looked at center (or any position.) He was creating a ton of offense, working the walls well and defensive game looked straight up elite.

expecting that to be the norm this year is unfair, but please let that be a glimpse into the future.

Every single time I've seen him at center he has looked way better than at wing, he also says himself he is a center. I don't understand why people insist he's a winger.
It's not insisting he's a winger. It's putting him in the best position to succeed and not giving him a ton of responsibility off the bat.

Missing assignments and/or playing poorly defensively could bleed negative effects into other aspects.

You missed the part of the season when he was at his most productive playing RW next to Hayes and Kreider?

I agree with this. His main issues have been his defensive play and face-offs but he has the size and skating and puck skills that scream center to me.

It's pretty similar to how he looked in a short stint at center last season before he got hurt. I think it was like 5 games.

Similar, but better.

As good as the goal was, I think what I was most impressed with last night was him digging pucks out from behind the net in the D zone. Either that or the enthusiasm with which he went into puck scrums in the offensive zone.

If that's the Chytil the Rangers are getting moving forward, then there is no issue with the 2C spot. It certainly removes a lot of my doubts about him as a center at the NHL moving forward if that's the case.

I still draft Byfield at 2 though.

This guy has all the potential in the world. I think we are set with Zibby-Chytil at C. Would rather have Alexis Lafrenriere than Byfield at this point.

And Andersson and Howden have the potential to be very good 2-3 center options, Henriksson too. Yes the Penguins won with Crosby and Malkin, but don't forget the Blackhawks won with Kane and the Capitals won with Ovechkin as their best players. Our best players CAN be Kakko and Lafreniere as long as our centers are solid throughout the lineup.

No doubt I take Lafreniere first overall, he's on a separate tier, but if it's Byfield or Raymond or Holtz, I think I take Byfield still.

What a difference a few weeks can make. He made EXCELLENT decisions without the puck and was assertive to get where he needed. Earlier in the season he'd have a plan without the puck like 'come off the half-boards to streak across the slot for the pass'. When that failed to develop he'd pause and coast for a second and decide his next step. Last night he had 6 steps ready to go should each the prior 5 fail. Beautiful thing to see, hopefully he continues his progression
