Prospect Info: Filip Chytil (Pick #21 2017)

Pastrnak is

1. A few months older (at that time)
2. Weighs 20 pounds more
3. Was called up to a team that had poor forward depth
4. Called up to a team that did not make the playoffs that year
5. Had 28 points in 25 AHL games to start that year

It isn't impossible, but there are very big differences.

Chytil is bigger now than Pastrnak is, but I can see similarities in their playing styles

I'm not sure how to feel about Chytil going to the OHL. On one hand, his offensive game can really break out. On the other, at 6'2" and 190, I'm concerned that he's just going to bully his way through the younger and smaller kids in the league, and he won't properly develop his complete game.

I guess I could live with one year in the OHL, and then to the AHL at 19 years old.

Fixed it for you

:naughty:

Nieves plays alone on the first line. Voluntary 3 vs 5 situation. Yes, he is that good

We need big guys on the 1st line. Trade for McCarron! Go with Hayes-Nieves-McCarron. Nobody can do anything against those 3. They're young, big and that is what you need to win. All you need to win

Man, we should have gone for Hanzal. He's big as well

Good, mature players will flourish regardless of the junior team. North Bay is a defensive-minded team. If Chytil plays there, he'll get top line mins and be used in all situations. And he'll do so as an 18-year-old. It's not a toxic organization. He likely wont put up gaudy numbers, but what's important is adapting to North American culture and the smaller rink.

Keep in mind that since there's an import limit, there's always a chance he gets traded.

I'm not worried about him. No need to rush him. He's a very smart player and he'll suceed, develop properly regardless of where he plays.

I just wouldn't rush him or Andersson. Neither are NHL ready IMO. Maybe next year. Certainly not for this season. Both need to improve in several areas.

That's not possible for Chytil this season. New CHL rules put in place a few years ago, imports can't be traded until a full year has passed since they were picked.

I know. Was saying he could if North Bay liked a better 2018 import and traded him to free up a slot to draft that player next year.

I guess that isnt surprising given how many prospects we have joining the wolfpack this year.

They'll want him to get as many minutes as possible.

I don't think it has to do with the composition of the Wolfpack. I think it has more to do with how isolated Chytil would be in Hartford--there just aren't very many teenagers in the AHL and it would be a huge shock culturally. In Juniors, he'd be around players his own age (and would be living with a family). The organization, hopefully, will choose wisely.

Sources have told The Post that there has been no determination as yet where Filip Chytil, the Czech center who was selected 21st overall in the June entry draft, will play next season.

Chytil, who will turn 18 in early September, will either play in the Czech League with HC Zin or with the OHL North Bay Batalion. There are no plans to have Chytil turn pro and start the season with the AHL Wolf Pack.

Agree, not the first time I've seen this either. Either condescending or ignorant. :shakehead

when a nhl team talks about a player turning pro they are referring to the NHL and the AHL. no one cares if the player is getting paid in europe that is completely irrelevant to the conversation from the nhl teams standpoint.

It's just poorly worded saying it that way. Their is no need to get angry, they're are bigger fish to fry.
