Yes. We've been able to extend him since the beginning of the season (July 6th? or whatever it was this year).

Being a Top 5 forward line by goal % does not make it a fact that this line is actually a Top 5 line in the NHL.

While this metric shows that the kid line has been dominant in their matchups, it does not take into consideration quality of competition.

It is easier to get a higher GF% in a somewhat sheltered usage, and highly unlikely that the kid line would have the same numbers if they were facing the opposing team’s top lines night in and and night out.

They can get there, this line has amazing chemistry and tremendous potential.
They could become NYR‘s top line sooner rather than later.

But a Top 5 line in the NHL right now ?
Absolutely not.

kind of a no shit sherlock comment but Chytil has a legitimately fantastic shot. not necessarily in shot selection but his release is lightning quick and can beat pretty much any goalie
It's a rare type of shot. It's tricky, misleading, and kind of ugly looking but the placement is stone cold, and that's the bottom line.

Glad Drury was patient, and didn't trade him and Nils for J.T. Miller last year. Have to give Gallant credit, he is giving the kids more and more time out there. Feels like they are almost becoming a 1st line.

Thinking this too. For all the criticism, halfway through the season the kids are being featured pretty prominently. And paying dividends. Aside from Kravtsov, though. Hope they're not giving up on him.

For the record, Drury was not patient lol. Vancouver said no to that package for Miller.

Vancouver saved us from ourselves, not Drury’s patience

lol. its not a top 5 line. You are cherry picking. They have scored 14 goals and been on for 5. The line right below has been scored 33 and been on for 12. No rational person would pick Laf-Chytil-Kakko over Robertson-Pavelski-Hintz. Just one example of how this ranking is dumb. Not to mention they get favorable matchups. And its a low event small sample size stat. If they had been on ice for just 2 more goals they'd firmly drop out of the top 5. I am happy they are playing well as of late but top 5 line give me a break.

Can't give Gallant credit for doing something this late in the year he should have done from training camp. He's also letting Kravtsov rot in the stands.

Not to mention the denominator (goals against) is heavily driven by defensemen and goalies.

The robertson line has 400 minutes.
Double the kids.
The chart shows lines who dominate their competition. The kids line is doing that.
200 minutes is a large enough sample to not be insignificant.

As for why mcdavid is lower, his line is middling defensively, so they give up goals more frequently.

The scoring is great, but I'm especially happy to see him playing so well defensively lately. He made a lot of plays in the neutral and defensive zones last night, backchecking hard to break up rushes, supporting the breakout instead of flying the zone. It's been a pleasure to watch.

If he can learn how to win faceoffs more frequently he will really start to be a complete center.

One of the world's greatest mysteries. A once in a lifetime phenomenon.

He's been excellent and it's been fun to watch.

He's barely 2 years older.
He’s 3 development years older. That work better? Laf’s D+3/3rd NA Pro year. Fil’s D+6/6th NA Pro year. Experience matters. The same geniuses still doomsdaying on Lafreniere this year were looking to use Chytil as a trade throw in last year, his D+5. Did not age well and neither will all the Laf is a bust/ career 3/4 liner hot takes.

Fil IS a lot of fun to watch, that whole line is, and he and they are only going to get better. They compliment each other. Just wait til KK and Laf catch-up to Fil development wise. It will elevate all three of their games. I actually saw Laf looking physically stronger last night, the way that seemed to happen with Fil second half of last season. Actually hung in on the physical battles instead of just being overwhelmed. 5 hits too, a couple of hard ones. Fil is becoming a beast. Not with the aggression but he’s a bull with the puck. And KK is getting there too. Right now his possession is excellent I can’t wait till he’s full grown. All three are going to be terrors. I see Fil as stylistically somewhere between Mika and Jagr. NO I’m not suggesting he will hit their levels, but he could end up being a legit 1C in this league.

Humble bump.
Meh, I think Chytil wanted to bet on himself and good on him for doing that.

I'm just wondering how we are going to make all this work. Laf is going to be bridged no doubt, but it would be imperative to lock up Chytil and Miller long term. And after next season, Kakko, Lindgren and Schneider are up. The salary cap better increase by multiple millions by 2024-25...

That’s the word. Huge bump once the escrow is paid off next season.
