Edit:  CanesAvs beat me to this post, but I'll leave it up with the photo. That photo cracks me up.

Interesting that he doesn't seem to be using his translator. As far as I know he only did one interview without one during his time in Washington.

He has been in Carolina long enough to speak fluent redneck by now. I'm looking forward to hearing him speak to Tripp..lolz to go around.

I may try to get to this one, we'll see. If I do, I'll probably just try to get a ticket off a scalper for $20 or whatever.

Tripp has been slightly better this year, but this is completely negated by how thoroughly meh Chantel has been.

I'll disagree, only because I always fast-forward through Chantel, but I can't fast-forward past TT. That renders Chantel moot for my estimation.

Honestly he's been playing with some real fire of late. He's earned it. The whole earn your ice time mantra does mean that occasionally guys will bubble up higher than some may like them, but it's on the guy who gets bumped down to earn the spot back. Nothing wrong with that.

You can tell a lot from someone's body language while they're in a conversation. Tripp is comfortable, relaxed, actually almost too casual in his posture. Semin appears to be gripping the bottom of his chair. That's a sign of genuine stress, and likely a way to keep himself from fidgeting on camera.

Reminds me a lot of the way guys like Pitkanen and Kessel deal with the media. Hopefully it will do Semin some good to be around a guy like Tripp, who is going to do nothing but throw softballs and make references that probably make no sense in translation.

I would hope so.

Semin is probably that way because it got to the point that everything he did and said in Washington was under a microscope. He could do no right. They needed a scapegoat, and they singled him out. I don't blame him for not trusting the media, after all the abusive crap he dealt with in DC.

I hope he's able to open up some more here in Raleigh. So far he genuinely seems to like the area and team, and I hope that continues.

Or it could be that he's just naturally introverted and doesn't like interviews. :dunno: My understanding is he was this way in Washington from day 1, not just later on in his career.

I just hope someone on the D got the memo not to pinch with Cam playing the way he is.

And hopefully the last game was a turning point for Cam. He needs to challenge the shots.

Probably has a little to do with both.

He also didn't know much English when he started in the NHL, so there was already a language barrier, and I can understand how that made him not want to do many interviews. And then, when he actually started to do them in DC, he began to get absolutely roasted for the things he did say, while the media and fans were picking through his game and his personal life with a fine tooth comb.

I'll say this, if I had the same experience he did in DC, I'd keep away from the media as well.

I think that's likely it. Generally speaking, guys like Semin/Joni/Kessel come by their aversion to social stress naturally. In all three cases it seems like their relationship with the media is being driven by a lack of natural comfort in interviews, rather than the other way around.

It'll be interesting if this team ever makes a deep playoff run to see what the organization does to shield Semin and Pitkanen from a potentially disruptive level of media access.

So they sent Murphy down because Gleason's close?

This is a must win game. Caps seem to be putting it together a little bit and we can't go 0-5 in division
