I mean, right after getting embarrassed by Switzerland, they come out and start the next game by playing like they're drunk? Way to make a statement, gang.

Maybe Canada has been playing drunk?

Just think how good Finland would be with Kapanen, Pitkanen, and Ruutu. I still don't see Finland as the favorite to win this tournament though. If there first line cools down even a little they will have extreme difficulty scoring. They are, however, playing tremendous team defense in front of Antero and that is very important to their success. I could see the US/Finland game being a great one and a game that US is capable of winning.

Ask Russia how to do... and Sweden or Slovakia... even Finland.
USA and Canada are failing to adjust. They're trying to use their own way of play (working along the boards, physical) and it's just not the way of playing on this size.

Team speed is crucial on the big ice. Agility, quickness, speed.

Canada has huge guys (Pronger, Bertuzzi, Thornton, Lecavalier, Nash, Doan). But I think we need more Fleury-like guys.

Yes an 18 year old will change the hockey team's fortunes single handedly. If we had Crosby, he'll score a million goals and stop every shot and does every single thing that'll get us the gold medal. :speechles

In fact, Crosby would have intimidated the Finns so much that Nittymaki would have allowed 5 goals today. :dunno:

The fact is that the team looks lost out there. They dont play together, like the Finns do. Crosby isn't going to change that, especially not with his attitude.

Great game by Finland! I'm really happy for them. After all those declines and how everybody wrote them off...

So, what he have now is....

Tuesday's game which was dubbed as a prelude to a final between the Czechs and the Canadians is now looking like two teams struggling to score goals and really not looking good out there (especially the Czechs).

And the reward for the 1st placed team in the other group (Slovakia, Sweden or Russia) is actually not a meeting with a team outside of the big 7, in this case Switzerland, who're assured to finish at least 3rd, possibly 2nd, but a match with either Czech Republic or Canada.

So, if you're Slovakia/Sweden/Russia, do you calculate and try to get yourself into a better position maybe to play the Swiss (which would mean 3rd place in the group if the Swiss beat Italy), or do you go all out and try to win the group and get your reward in the shape of the Czechs or Canada?

Also the defense looked REALLY slow coming out of its own zone. Canada's really missing Niedermayer and Jovanovski.

I just wanted to thank both teams for this great game. Canadiens didn't play like they should the first period. Team Finland took advantage and scored two goals. The second and the third were defensive battle for the finns and this time we won thanks to this teams heart. I wouldn't be too sad for Team Canada. This time they were against a wall called Niittymäki and a hard rock defence by Team Finland. Next games, if they keep up the effort (and why wouldn't they?) they will be a very difficult to beat. :teach:

I'm off to sleep.

What's Suomi? Finland in Finnish?

Yeah.

Great game... The last two periods got me a bit worried. With a game like that Finland won't beat Slovakia or Russia. Unless of course that was just a strategy, not sucking...

Sweden is always Sweden, no matter how you play.

Lets say the Finns lie down against Germany and the Czechs beat Canada?? Canada is eliminated??

Ron McLean thinks that maybe Canada lacks experience, that they have too many young guys.

I agree.

Why an experienced and clutch guy like Kariya was not on this team ahead of guys like Nash is beyond me. Nash didn't even play in the 3rd period, with inneffectiveness and poor play cited as a possible reason.

Without a doubt, its going to be very, very close...

The Finns are a very opportunistic team, and if you can play a tight defensive system against them, it is possible to shut them down...

Ofcourse, your goaltender has to be ridiculously good, and since the US defense is not exactly the most mobile, its best they just hang back at their own blueline...

I blame jet lag. According to my calculations, Team Canada should be fully operational in 3 weeks.

Great game all around. Finland was solid at the 1st period and defended well at the next two periods.

Niittymäki was rock solid and luck was with us.

Canada had some good changes but they have some "goal-cant-do" syndroma.

Interesting games coming up!

I honestly think Nittymaki should give those two traitors, Kipprusoff and Lethonen, a call and RUB it in for good measure... :biglaugh:

I think he should thank them since its because of them pulling out he was able to make the team.

What the hell??????
That fatso benched Nash for the 3rd period!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah right guys,,
Stall, Crosby, and Phaneuf would have made no difference at all. :shakehead

Crosby plays his heart out for a regular season game in Pittsburgh, he would have been going nuts at the Olympics.

If Bertuzzi wasn't hustling, Crosby would have kicked his ***.

Nash hasn't been playing well at all... Bertuzzi was one of the only players that has actually played consistently all tourny.

I think we would have to lose to Czech and Germany would have to beat Finland for us to share a 2-3-0 record? Then it comes down to goal differential, which Canada should have in the bag.

Props to Niittymaki for sticking it to the 'injured' goalies back home. Kiprusoff and Lehtonen might not even even get asked next time 'round.

Lehtonen IS injured and a far better goalie than Nittymaki. I am sure he will be the #1 in 2010. Kiprusoff is not hurt. He should not even be allowed to return to Finland.
