FAQ: Going to Anaheim and Honda Center

Hi guys! I'll be passing through LA on a business trip in October, with a full day with a customer scheduled in Yorba Linda monday the 12th, and then another meeting in El Segundo before lunch on Tuesday. Now, we're planning on going to the Ducks game (vs Canucks) on the 12th after our business meeting and then hauling ourselves across town afterwards to a hotel near where the meeting is on Tuesday. We will have a rental car.

Question is: -Is this a feasible plan? I.e. getting from YL to Honda Center in the afternoon (guessing 4-5-ish, and is the Honda Center parking recommended or should we park somewhere else? I don't think we'll be pressed for time) and then driving to El Segundo (or somewhere near there) after the game... And when could we realistically expect to be at our hotel?

A recommendation for a pre-game meal in the vicinity of the arena would also be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

You will be fine, from Yorba Linda to the Honda center isn't very far and is against the flow of traffic. It should take you maybe 20 minutes, i come in from Rancho Cucamonga for every game and it takes me 40-45 minutes.

There should be plenty of info on parking in this thread. Just be warned if you plan to stick around for the 3 stars it can back up to get out.

Someone who drives those freeways should be able to give you more info on getting to El Segundo.

DO NOT PARK IN HONDA CENTER PARKING. Park across from shell on the corner of Howell and Katella. It's $5 and you'll get on the freeway so much faster going home. It's not even a far walk too. I wouldn't park in Honda center parking even if it was free.

Cheers guys! I guess the question mark is still concerning the late drive to El Segundo. It looks pretty straightforward on the map (just following the freeways), but some input on what to expect would be nice.

Unless there is an accident or if there is freeway construction work that night, once you get on the freeway, I think it might take about 40 - 45 minutes depending where in El Segundo your hotel is and which freeway you take (and how fast you like to drive, LOL). I used to drive from the HC to the Manhattan Beach taking the 57 to the 22 to the 405 and usually got home in about 40 minutes once I got out of the parking lot. It might take you a little bit longer because El Segundo is just north of Manhattan Beach. There are carpool lanes all the way, but if traffic is light, you probably won't need to use them. I didn't take the 5 to the 105. I know the 105 has a carpool lane all the way, but I'm not sure about the 5. I wouldn't take the 57 to the 91 because you'd have to take more freeways (probably 4).

At that time of night (game usually ends at 9:30pm), traffic should not be an issue going west. Roughly 45min, depending on how fast you drive.

If you want to estimate it, google maps direction has an option to change the starting time to a specific time and day of the week and it will estimate for you how long it will take based on historical traffic patterns at that time.

Yes, going from YL to Ponda at 5pm isn't too bad. 55 or 57 freeways going south isn't too bad during rush hour until you go past the Ponda center.

Thinking of taking the Metrolink instead of fighting the traffic on the 5 to get up to the Gulls game on Monday. Does anyone know if there is a bus from ARTIC to the Honda Center? I know it's not that far but I have a toddler with me and having a bus would be nice. There is supposed to be a Ducks Express but all the info is at least a year old. Anyone know if that has been running during the preseason games?

As close as it is, I can't see why they would run a bus.

It's literally a block away. 3-5 min walk. I park 10 mins away and carry my toddler all the time. It's not a big deal.

Doubt there would be a bus to go across the street.

This is the most recent link I can find about the Ducks Express from a year ago. I guess I'll see Monday night.

BTW, anyone remember the party bus from the El Torito (now condo complex) to the Ducks games? That was an awesome bus!

They still do one from the El Torito on Ball. At least they did as of a few years ago. Good luck with the ride up. I found my kitty in the parking lot of that El Torito on Katella years ago after a concert. There was a colony of cats living there.

Check with metro link
It looks like it is still on their website

Saw that bus running yesterday
It also shuttles employees of Honda center from the staff lot (angels stadium parking lot)

There were a couple of shuttles/buses around but couldn't really tell which one went from ARTIC to Honda Center. We ended up just walking.

BTW, they used to have the cheap $7 Metrolink roundtrip fares for the Ducks games. Apparently, the conductor said that was 3 years ago. No special fares any more. The conductor said there would be ~100 Ducks fans on the train by the end of the year. They need to bring that special $7 fare back. They only have the special fares for Angels games.

Given the switch the Ponda had from Pepsi to Dr. Pepper Snapple Group, what are the chances they'll sell Snapple with Real Sugar?

PS: Any word when 7up Retro gets sold there?

We sold Pepsi? I don't know I just know with 100% certainty they sell Jack Daniels. Does that mean my Jack and Coke was not really Jack and Coke? I feel betrayed.

7up is right down the street, makes sense they would carry them at some point.

I never buy drinks there and have stopped drinking soda except with alcohol so I'm no help in this.
