This trade was just made in one of my dynasty leagues... seriously.

Mike Trout and Chris Archer

for

Chris Davis, Andrew McCutchen, Mark Melancon, Marco Estrada and a 2020 3rd round pick

My team is god awful in that league, but if I knew Trout was being sold for pennies, I would have jumped all over it.

This is a horrible and slightly alarming trade. I'm all in favor of letting guys make trades as they please, but the fact that you're the only one who had an issue with this trade makes me question the quality of this league.

I find it so hard to veto trades in Dynasty leagues. Valuation of players and picks/cap space are so different from owner to own, based on their team's current make-up I've taken the stance that unless there's 100% collusion, you should never veto a Dynasty trade. You have to treat Dynasty leagues as real life baseball... sure the Rockies might be pissed that the Angles traded Trout for a package they felt they could have blown out of the water, but they have to deal with it.

If this was a redraft, then I'd be with you wielding pitchforks and torches.

I totally agree. Wasn't implying it should be vetoed by the league manager or anything, however I'm amazed more people didn't take issue with that trade.

Ive only played in one dynasty league in my life and it was brief. I assume its still similar to keeper leagues where youre either rebuilding or contending. The guy giving up Trout and Archer isnt getting any players or picks to help him rebuild. There is no upside in the trade for him. Imo there's collusion there.

If this trade went through in a league I was in (redraft, dynasty, keeper) i would quit after the season ended.

Yeah you see stupid trades in real life like the Shelby Miller trade, but that doesnt mean it should happen in fantasy baseball.

That was my argument that the guy giving up Trout and Archer was getting nothing of value. The guy getting Trout and Archer is getting the two best pieces in the trade. And the guy that gave up Trout probably didn't even shop him around.

So my keeper league this year is going to be 2 or 3 keepers. Who would you keep?

Harper
Machado
Stanton
Bogaerts
Lindor
Turner
Syndergaard

If it's 2 I'm leaning Machado and Harper right now. If it's 3 it gets a bit trickier.

Definitely Harper and Machado if it's only two. If you get a third, I'd go with Turner (assuming it's Trea Turner).

Yea if it's 2 I'd go Harper and Machado. If you get a 3rd it comes down to Syndergaard or Turner. I'd be tempted to say Lindor but Machado has SS eligibility in your league I assume?

I don't play in league specific leagues, but damn, that's a great price on Arenado.

Yeah it is. I think I posted the trade on this thread I made in the winter to get him JP Crawford, JDL, and Chapman for Nolan... then Chappy and JDL went off to the AL.

The guy who traded him was going into a rebuild, shipping off him and Thor ($15) but keeping Bryant ($22) even though he had multiple blockbuster offers for him. Then after our draft (in which he grabbed 2 or 3 decently priced MLBer, but a lot of moderately priced prospects) he decided he was going to try get one of the Top 3 money spots he went and swung a deal for Goldy and Billy Hamilton. I'm glad I was able to catch him in his 4 month rebuild to get a cornerstone piece for the next 5-7 years for my offense.

What's everyone think of Hamels at $18 for Beltran at $9?

I think Beltran has more value but his age scares me.

Hamels walked way too many guys last year. His ERA shouldn't have been as good as it was. I still like the Hamels side better, though. Texas is a really good team.

I prefer to load up on starting pitchers in H2H leagues. I don't like any of your bench players, to be completely honest. How in the world was Syndergaard not kept?

I'd drop Kiermaier, Bell and Dyson and add some pitching.

As to Syndergaard... I'm not sure. Our league rules allow us to keep three players each year, but only one "dynasty" player, so if he was kept last year, then the same owner potentially couldn't keep him again... I'd have to look and see - maybe that owner has Trout or someone...

As to pitching, I do a good bit of streaming. Our league has no transaction limit or innings limit. A couple of those bench spots will eventually become that. The lack of pitching is a valid concern. But it's a roster construction preference that has worked for me in the past.

Thanks!
