Wow, our CBS draft ended up a complete cluster**** towards the end. It was already messed up because due to tinkering different budgets from holdovers and keeper values, the system was somehow saying that we all needed way more than the max roster of 25 players, and with one team on auto-draft, it really screwed up the flow.

But the biggest issue was it setting an arbitrary max-bid, which was somewhat workable until it ran into a glitch and said one team had a max bid of 0 dollars, which froze the draft. We were almost done, but had to finish it in the chat, and now the commish has to add the last players.

CBS really sucks, hopefully we get a refund on our money.

It actually benefited me in a weird way. We made the decision to reset everyone to the standard 260, which slightly worked against my decision to hold a reasonable amount of money until towards the end, to snag the 3-5 dollar guys I really wanted. Long story short, I was able to get Moustakas for a dollar and also Broxton for a dollar, as well as Eduardo Rodriguez and Daniel Norris. All kind of fringe-y guys, but I like some of them to perform ok.

I ended up going aggressive early in the draft, and getting Hamels, Lucroy, Chapman, Moore, and Joe Ross. I usually never like to spend money on closers. The real wonky thing that happened in the last moments of the draft was me still needing a bench player, and being able to take Byron Buxton basically for free, because only a few times were still bidding and I hate the most money left, which became useless after the draft. So I got Buxton for $22, which is an insane overpay and will probably prevent him from being keepable, but so it goes.

Auctions are enjoyed best in person, IMO. It's too much fun to see people's faces when they drop out of bidding early and realize that the player is going for way less than they thought. It's also enjoyable, in my league, to have two guys who constantly throw out random factoids and stats about players on the block to influence the bidding and watch a couple guys take the bait and bid the extra 1,2,3 dollars.

I would have liked to see you get a better shortstop than Tulo. What are the extra categories? Santana is good for a league that counts OBP and not average. I don't like your relievers, although I tend not to pay for saves as well.

Unless Andrew Miller or Betances is available, I would stand pat.

Edit: Which Gray is that?

Votto in the second round in a league that doesn't count on base or walks seems like a huge reach. I don't like your starting pitching at all. Pujols is a good pick. Just CI or MI only? No 1B, 2B, SS or 3B?

Keeper league doing its draft tomorrow. Don't think I've had any success in the draft since I became a good team. Any guys from this year's draft class worth checking out?

How big of a keeper league are you talking about? Do you keep everyone? How many teams/roster spots?

The best fantasy players from this year's draft are (in no order) Corey Ray, Kyle Lewis, Blake Rutherford, Nick Senzel and Mickey Moniak. Unfortunately, all of them are outfielders except Senzel. Senzel should make it to the majors first. Ray and Lewis are both coming off of major knee injuries. Rutherford and Moniak will take awhile to get to the majors since they were high school kids.

For pitchers (in no order), I like A.J. Puk, Matt Manning and Braxton Garrett.

Riley Pint is worth a gamble. If he gains some control, his stuff is upper MLB caliber, even in Coors.

Depending, of course, on what kind of time frame you're looking at for prospects. Pint is farther away than a stud like Senzal, who will be a stud soon.

Had my draft the other day. 9th pick, 10 teams, 5x5, H2H (OBP, HR, RBI, R, SB, W, ERA, K, WHIP SV)

C: Molina
1B: H. Ramirez
2B: Odor
3B: Turner
SS: Machado (Keeper)
OF: Harper (Keeper)
OF: Marte
OF: Pollock
UTIL: Bogaerts
UTIL: Benintendi
BN: Swanson, Zobrist, Yu. Gurriel

SP: Quintana, Greinke, Felix, Teheran, Wainwright, McCullers, Cotton, Urias
RP: Herrera, Dyson

Usually I take an extra SP instead of that 3rd bench player, especially since Urias is a stash for a month, but in the last few rounds I felt like Gurriel was worth a pick more than the SPs available, plus it's easier to find good pitching than good hitting on the waiver wire.

Against my better judgment and a substantial amount of experience getting burned, I'm thinking about taking a flier on Charlie Morton for $1 and seeing if his velocity uptick is going to stay real, and maybe have him experience a low key breakout. Another thing pushing me to do it is that his early schedule is not so tough, and even in earlier times, he's been somewhat useful as a streaming option.

My league is pretty deep: 5 SP spots, 5 RP spots, and 5 bench, which many teams tend to use for 5 SPs as well, or at least 3 SPs (depends on if you are rostering a prospect, or moving batters around; my approach tends to be having the best batters as possible, and having streaming options and upside gambles on my bench at SP).

The only two pitchers I have that are droppable are E. Rodriguez and Daniel Norris (my others: Kershaw, Hamels, Matz, Nola, Taillon, Moore, Joe Ross, Cotton). Any thoughts on whether dropping one for Morton is a smart move? I lean towards Eduardo Rodriguez, but Norris' vague health situation worries me slightly, since I already have Matz. I might also take a flier on Alex Wood.

At RP, I might make a minor switch and grab Rivero, dropping Ottavino. Ks and HDs are worth a decent amount in my league, so a good set-up man can be a decent anchor in the bullpen. Another move I'm considering is adding Morton/Wood and a bench batter, since there are a lot of off days in April. Josh Bell is available, and as a Pirates homer I'd be all over trying to grab him for a dollar, but I already have Goldschmidt as my central piece and I don't expect the power to come for Bell just yet. Still, the general strategy of an extra batter might be better; Rodriguez, Norris, Wood, Morton should all probably be available off and on in the season, unless one breaks out pretty instantly. I guess my gut feeling is that Morton has the best chance to be an early season story, because the handful of times he was able to throw 96-97 in games for the Pirates while also commanding the other stuff, he was ace caliber (I'm talking about for a few innings during a game, maybe a few games in a row way back).

These are the type of minor decisions I spend way too much time thinking back and forth.

I'd keep what you have, then. I don't expect much from Sonny Gray this year, but in an H2H, he's worth the gamble.

Yea I guess I'll make what what I lose in SV in IP, K's and W's.

Gray is a huge sleeper this year. he was injured last year which made people lose confidence in him but IMO he's going to have a big year.

Gah... you have three pitchers on my do not draft list (Greinke, Felix and Wainwright). :(

Your offense looks really good.

17 keepers, 25 man roster. I'm a win-now team, but I hate having no prospects lol. Just wondering if any of those guys are close-ish to think about hanging onto.

My dude Amir Garrett made the Reds.

@DJ, I'm also looking at Charlie Morton. Hearing good things.

Pretty content with my team. Auto pick gave me Greinke which kind of messed me up a bit but oh well. Not quite sure what to do with Baez, for some reason I thought he was going to be starting.
