Auctions are enjoyed best in person, IMO. It's too much fun to see people's faces when they drop out of bidding early and realize that the player is going for way less than they thought. It's also enjoyable, in my league, to have two guys who constantly throw out random factoids and stats about players on the block to influence the bidding and watch a couple guys take the bait and bid the extra 1,2,3 dollars.

yup. I love in person auctions. Mine went thusly:

C: Jonathon Lucroy (16)
1B: Dan Vogelbach (1)
2B: Logan Forsythe (6)
SS: Eduardo Nunez (10)
3B: Hernan Perez (3)
MI: Yangervis Solarte (1)
CI: Mike Napoli (4)
OF: Nelson Cruz (25)
OF: Mark Trumbo (13)
OF: Gregory Polance (16)
OF: Kevin Kiermaier (2)
U: Jackie Bradley Jr (11)
U: Andrew Benintendi (9)
BN: Jason Heyward (4)
BN: Austin Meadows (1)

SP: Corey Kluber (26)
SP: Stephen Strasburg (20)
SP: Justin Verlander (19)
SP: Carlos Carrasco (18)
SP: Jose Quintana (14)
P: Tanner Roark (8)
P: Garrett Richards (2)
P: Koda Glover (7)
P: A.J. Ramos (12)
P: Neftali Feliz (4)

I like, don't love, my team. Vogelbach getting sent down will hurt the first week but I'm still high on him. Glover doesn't look as sure to be the closer as he once did which sucks.

@rangers and winger

Thanks - I think I may hold off on wood for a moment and see if I can grab him when he's closer to RP status, in case he becomes a SPARP soon enough, which I'd bet on.

Tentative plan is to try and grab both Charlie Morton and Josh Bell. Matz is going to be on the DL, so that clears up a spot, and I may just flip a coin and drop Norris or Rodriguez. I'm also putting in a bid on Rivero, who I think will rack up a bunch of Ks and have a lot of outings a bit longer than an inning. If I get him, I'll drop Ottavino.

Not entirely sure what my RP strategy will be. I have Chapman (literally this is the first time I can pay for saves, but he went for ~20 in the auction which was what middling offensive players were going for, so I just paid the premium), Bedrosian, Neris, Nate Jones, and Ottavino. I think Bedrosian will probably just hold the closer job, and that both Neris and Jones have a decent chance to end up as the closers, and will rack up Ks anyways. Ottavino also has that possibility, and I like him for Ks, but I just figure that not rostering bullpen players who pitch in Coors Field all the time is the safest strategy, because even if Rivero's ceiling is slightly lower, it's highly unlikely that he might burn me for -20 points or whatever.

Norris and E-Rod are on a few breakout candidate lists I read through. Morton pitched 17 innings last year. Don't break the bank for the guy.

I drafted Gurriel in the third round. Pretty pleased with that. Other than that, Nicasio, Devenski, Treinen, Honeywell, Gregorson, Lopez, Cashner.

Someone traded WADE DAVIS for Cashner last year so worth a shot

Gah... you have three pitchers on my do not draft list (Greinke, Felix and Wainwright). :(

Your offense looks really good.

I got them all in the mid to late rounds. I went offense heavy early on because it's easier to find pitching. And hoping for bounce back years from them was worth it more than the other pitchers who were available.

7x7 H2H - 10 team - 33 players per roster. (K) denotes that I kept the player going into the season.

C - Salvador Perez
1B - Eric Hosmer
2B - Robinson Cano (K)
3B - Evan Longoria
SS - Jonathan Villar
MI - Rougned Odor
CI - Brandon Belt
OF - Mike Trout (K)
OF - Starling Marte (K)
OF - Adam Eaton
OF - Michael Brantley
OF - Jose Peraza
UTIL - Adrian Gonzalez
UTIL - Maikel Franco
Bench: Brandon Phillips, Aaron Judge

SP: Chris Sale (K), Carlos Martinez, Kenta Maeda, Danny Salazar, James Paxton, Adam Wainwright, Vince Velasquez, Gio Gonzalez, Joe Musgrove, Edinson Volquezz, Eduardo Rodriguez, Charlie Morton, Jeremy Hellickson

RP: Jeurys Familia, Neftali Feliz, Jeanmar Gomez, Huston Street

Thoughts? I thought I picked a lot of safe floor guys like Hosmer, Longoria, Belt, Gonzalez and mixed in a decent amount of upside with Franco, Odor and Brantley. If you couldn't tell, I'm hoping to get lucky picking up a few closers on the waiver wire throughout the year.

Lots of pitchers that I'm not ultra familiar with. I regretted taking Musgrove and Volquez almost immediately... and I'm reading that Rodriguez may be sent to AAA?

I was so thrilled to get Jonathan Villar in the first round (50th overall).

Yeah, it might be a mistake to go after him this early. I think Norris and E-Rod are both better pedigree, higher upside guys, but with Morton's improved velocity, I could see him really dominating for several months if things go very well. That probably sounds like a completely crazy thing to say, but I think it's that kind of gamble that's worth dipping your toes in for April, so to speak, when at least in my experience a lot of your success comes down to whether your stars open the season as they should.

I ended up dropping E-Rod. I think both him and Norris are still great breakout candidates, but I think both will potentially struggle for different stretches. I decided not to do too much research into it. I like Norris' stuff and ceiling more, and he seems like he has an ok schedule to try and give him to leeway to ride it out. My worry though is that Rodriguez has at least shown what he can do in MLB for a decent stretch, and reportedly has really developed his slider. Whereas I expect Norris to string up tons of Ks, but also occasionally get hammered for 2-3 HRs in a game, which is a points killer in my league.

With Morton, I'll probably give him two or three starts and see if the velocity and results are there, and if not, cut the ties completely. It's right to be skeptical of him for any number of reasons, but I just think based on the strong spring and serious velocity uptick (which happened before his injury last year), he will end up being one of those first half huge success stories that we are all middling on for a few starts, and kicking ourselves for not spending peanuts on in mid-May.

I think Musgrove could be useful. Volquez is always a serious wildcard when I have him, but he does sometimes have upside and has developed a strange amount of consistency in the little I've paid attention to him.

I don't think Rodriguez will go down to AAA, or at least haven't read anything about that.

One other player that you might consider at RP is Bedrosian. Street should be on the DL, and Bedrosian is good enough that he may just keep the job from what I read.

I would have liked to see you get a better shortstop than Tulo. What are the extra categories? Santana is good for a league that counts OBP and not average. I don't like your relievers, although I tend not to pay for saves as well.

Unless Andrew Miller or Betances is available, I would stand pat.

Edit: Which Gray is that?

Pretty content with my team. Auto pick gave me Greinke which kind of messed me up a bit but oh well. Not quite sure what to do with Baez, for some reason I thought he was going to be starting.

Aaron Judge worth a pick up?

Damn, my league was slow to start waivers because teams still needed to fill their rosters after the draft disaster. I had made a mental note to try and get Trienen, but forgot last night and could definitely have had him for a dollar.

I think he's a safe bet to rack up a ton of saves, so he's probably worth just spending an ok chunk of waiver money on, but I like to be pretty active, so I may hold back... then again, unless I have injuries, my pitchers are more solid than they have been in a while, so I anticipate only really tweaking with the spot Morton is occupying, and maybe Norris too.

Would you add him and drop Nate Jones, Rivero, or Neris? Rivero seems like the obvious choice, since he won't get saves hardly at all (Hudson will close when Watson loses his job, which is definitely going to happen), but I like him to ring up Ks and literally just added him. Maybe I toss a 10/11 dollar bid in and just see if I win, then decide. I got so distracted by the draft cluster**** that I plum forgot, or I'd have an easy save stacker on a good team.

Yay I drafted him in like the 6th yesterday. Finally some closer luck. Also got Jeanmar Gomez, who is undoubtedly the worst closer in baseball lol

Haha, he went undrafted for a long time in our redraft, and I was tempted, but I basically am treating him like I would a slot machine that I won a bunch of money from. I snagged him last year right before he really took off, because my RP was insanely thin. Likeable guy for sure, and maybe the Phillies will want him to have an extended stay so that they can move him for younger talent, but you have to imagine Neris has his job before too long.

I thought they would eventually go to Neris all of last season. Never happened lol.

Just did a draft for another league. 10 teams h2h pts:

C - Jonathan Lucroy
1B - Daniel Murphy
2B - Trea Turner
3B - Matt Carpenter
SS - Jose Peraza
2B/SS - Joe Panik
1B/3B - Carlos Santana
OF - Stephen Piscotty
OF - David Dahl
OF - Adam Eaton
OF - Kole Calhoun
UTIL - Victor Martinez
UTIL - Greg Bird

SP - Clayton Kershaw, Jon Lester, Kyle Hendricks, Tanner Roark, Marco Estrada, Ian Kennedy, Michal Pineda, Jeff Samardzija

RP - Kenley Jansen, Seung Hwan Oh, Alex Colome, Brandon Maurer

Kershaw 9th, and then I waited until the last second but I took Trea Turner at 12. Even if he's a little less good than he was last season, he'll still be a fantasy machine. YOLO

I got my redraft league auctopm coming up this Sunday (NL Only of course). We had a guy drop out so we're down to 11 teams and this league has become my secondary league, surpassed by my Dynasty league. I'm thinking of trying go go the Stars and Scubs route this year... blow all my money on Bryant, Arenado, Kershaw, etc type guys and then fill out the roster with lottery tickets and undervalued vets (hopefully snagging 2 or 3 of them early when everyone is still cautious with money, saving for their big targets).

I'm think about adding E. Nunez and dropping J. Odorizzi. Is this a good move? Should I keep J. Urias? Nunez and Urias would be my first hitter or pitcher off the bench.
