I like the trade for both teams. He was a good hockey trade. I hope Fabio works out for us.

Personally I never Ostapchuk potential the way the rest of this board did and I may have missed it, but I didn't see him being anything more than a fourth liner. That was okay because we need fourth liners anyways but I didn't see much of a ceiling with him. Maybe in a different organization he'll be giving the room to spread his wings. It wasn't going to happen here based on the sample size that we seen from so was better for us to experiment and see what else was out there. This could totally blow up in our face but hey it won't be the first time and it won't be the last time. Some players just are giving a better opportunity elsewhere and make the most of it. He was not showing anything that warranted him to move up in the lineup or to justify holding his spot on the lineup.

Grier is going to look smart with this deal and it should be a great trade for both teams in a perfect world.

It was a hockey trade and Sens could afford to deal a center and SJ was looking to add one.

They traded an established young 20+ goal scorer RFA, who has good intangibles and plays responsible defence, for a guy whose ceiling is a reliable bottom six center that doesn't bring much offence.

Even if Ostapchuk was 25 and already at his ceiling, he still wouldn't be worth Zetterlund.

They traded the boat for the box hoping it contains a canoe.

I think fans of teams in general overrate their prospects and it's no different for Sens fans.

There are the prospects of the Stone ilk which are a rare breed then there are the Puemples, Wierdcrotch, Rundblads, Bobby Butler, Sokolovs etc

I'd make this trade every single day of the week without worrying what Ostapchuk could become. From what I've seen so far he'd top out at a bottom 6 forechecker with some offensive upside.

Sens got a short king who is built like a fire hydrant that can shoot, score and defend.

Ask the Jets if they’d trade Lowry for Zetterlund, and they would say no every day of the week.

Obviously there’s no guarantee that’s what he becomes but that’s true of any trade for a prospect. From a projection standpoint if you see that level of upside in Ostapchuk, the deal makes perfect sense for a team that has the time to wait and develop him into that player.

Grier in his most recently interview (someone posted it on these boards) said that he had no intention of moving Zetterlund and never thought of it but was approached and it seems like Ostapchuk was strategically sold to him by Staios.

It's really odd. It sounds so much like he didn't want to lose Zetterlund, so why did he make the trade? There's no scenario where he had to get Ostapchuk, and San Jose doesn't owe us any favors or anything....so what's the deal? Why did Grier cave?

The Zetterlund trade seems to be the only fumble so far (and can end up as a W if Ostapchuk emerges the way Grier wants him to). Aside from that, I don't think Grier has any 'bad' moves. He's restocked the cupboards, moved out all the bad contracts on the books except Vlasic, and they've got loads of capspace to surround Celbribi, Smith ,Eklund, Dickinson & Co with good quality vets. No bad vet acquisitions either.

They get a retention spot back next season with Burns coming off the books, and they'll get a decent return for Ferraro or can use their capspace to help facilitate a trade for more assets.

I'd be pissed if I'm a sharks fan, but would believe in the GMMG plan

I think Ostapchuk looks like a 4th liner. Just doesn't have the skill to be anything more than that.

I'd be upset losing a 2nd but Buffalo gave us one in the Norris/Cozens swap for some reason, so it's a wash.

Zetterlund is a good young player that we should be able to keep beyond this season.

Staios killed it today. So many teams gutted their futures for short-term help, but we got better and added two players that will fit into our long-term plans.

From what I hear, 2025 draft isn't very good, 2026 much better. Great for SS to get rid of 2025 2nd and acquire 2026 2nd. So much to like about these moves.

Cousins should be ready to go at the end of this month as his injury is listed at 6-8 weeks. It'll be 8 weeks on March 26th, just in time to get ready for the playoffs.

I agree. Ostapchuk is going to be a player. Might have better offensive toolbox than Nick Paul. Lowry is also a great comparable.

Zetterlund can really explode here with us too if he meshed with Stutzle and give us 30/30.

If we gave up a future Nick Paul or Adam Lowry, then this trade is actually not looking good. But I don't see it personally. Lowry is a very impactful player and Nick Paul is a stud as well. He has 81 pts since last season and the current season is not even over. It will take years for Ostapchuk to provide that kind of offense.

Frankly, if we had Grier instead of Dorion all that time, we could probably have a dynasty on our hands. No one ever had the luxury to start a rebuild with guys like Karlsson, Duchene, Stone, etc in their PRIMES. GMs are getting better returns for rentals at the deadline than Dorion got for Duchene and Stone for example. PTSDorion

Yeah but IMO Ostapchuk is not the same level of prospect as these other guys, even the guys at the bottom of that list. Just look at Daniil Gushchin for example, very highly skilled guy. Thomas Bordeleau is pretty talented too. If you don't count Yakemchuk, pretty much all of these guys would be our best prospect.
