His production these last two years would make him a second line player IMO.

24 goals and 20 assists last season. This season he is on pace for a similar number.
An absolute steal from Staios, my gosshhh wow !

Put him with Brady and Stu and Zetty can be a future 30-30 for 60 points player yearly. I see a future Artturi Lehkonen in Zetterlund.

I haven't watched SJ since Karlsson was moved, so I don't know these guys other than their stats.

Going to miss Ostapchuk. Next on tap for Staios is working on replenishing the prospect stables. We're the type of team that needs a steady pipeline form Belleville.

I think Ostapchuk will be a good player but I think it’s also gonna take quite a bit of time before he becomes a true 3rd line guy. I can see him being a beast in his prime though so I think it makes a lot of sense for SJ and their timeline, just like Zetterlund works better for ours.
100% this. Ostapchuk is in the same vein as Nick Paul, Curtis Lazar, Ridly Greig, i.e. guys who make a living making space for others. When playing against players in the same age range, they shined. As young guys playing in the AHL or NHL, they don't measure up strength-wise initially. Teams who draft players like these need to be patient. Both Nick Paul (someone who was also testing the patience of our front office, remember he cleared waivers!) and Lazar eventually found their footing and their place in the NHL, and so will Ostapchuk eventually.

What Ostapchuk showed us this year is that he has good defensive instincts. But he was too passive and deserved his demotion. I think he will eventually become a reliable 3rd liner. Give him a couple of years.

Still, the deal is excellent, and am super pumped about Zetterlund!

Tough to lose Ostapchuk. He clearly wasn't going to make a difference at the NHL level this season, but he has the wheels and length to be a very effective bottom 6 center.

Zetterlund seems interesting. Stocky winger who competes, can rip the puck, and produces at 5v5. Much needed offensive punch for the playoff push, and on the young side of his prime.

Would have liked the add more if we didn’t make the team worse earlier in the day.
also some perpspective is needed he was on an ass team might not be as good as his goalscoring suggests. Hoping he builds chemistry with stu

Bro go get a rub n tug or something seeing how depressing you been today.

Team got better today and you bitching non stop.

Judging by the comments by Grier, he and his pro scouting department got a huge crush on Ostapchuk and you guys benefited from it. At least I saw Zetterlund as a long-term piece of the team, not a key piece but a complementary piece. Treat him well!

5 for a maybe 20 goal guy and 7.1 for cozens. That might not be smart
He is not a ”maybe 20 goal guy”. He is a 20+ goal guy with an overall very strong game. He can skate fast in the transition and forecheck, grind the board, fight in the crease decent shot (that needs improvement), pass, defends well. He is a very capable high volume hockey player.

The Sharks essentially traded their best performing player for low end talent, it’s an insanely good trade for the Sens.

Good trade, I like it more than the Cozens one, but he's not going to be a needle mover this year I don't think, another middle 6 forward is a pretty good addition that will help a bit now and in the future, but we still need a game breaker to add upfront to really push us over the hump. Hopefully we can do that this summer.

Ostapchuk is going to be a very good NHLer, he’s an extremely promising bottom 6 guy that you see teams drooling over to get every deadline.

He’s in over his head this year, but he shouldn’t have been in the NHL to begin with, he should be in the AHL for another year or two.

He’ll develop his offense to be a 25-35ish point guy

We’re (at least I’m) very pleased with the trade, but I don’t think you guys were taken advantage of. You guys are going to love Ostapchuk.

My lines would be:

Zetterlund-Stü-Tkachuk
Batherson-Cozins-GIroux (Giroux could also play center, taking some pressure off of Cozins)
Amadio-Pinto-Cousins (magic sauce line when cousins is healthy)
Perron-Grieg-Gaudette (Gaudette could also play center and put Grieg on the right side)

This seems more balanced to me, especially if we make it into the playoffs.

Zetterlund-Stü-Tkachuk : Don't think Tkachuk ever played RW, Zetterlund does every season.

Batherson-Cozins-Giroux : Giroux is 37 now, hasn't play center much in years, he lacks the wheels too. Cozens is not good defensively yet, need him to focus on his offensive game first. Batherson hasn't played LW much in the NHL, even when he's on the same line as Giroux, it's Giroux who plays LW

Amadio-Pinto-Cousins : very little scoring potential, we'd be back to pre-deadline stagnation

Perron-Grieg-Gaudette : Greig and Perron are not 4th liners and are not paid as such

Many possibilities for the Top-9

Probably at least $6 or $7mill per.

Damn I hope not lol

He had 20+ goals last season and he's headed that way this season. He's getting at lease $6.

No way... If every 40+ pts guy makes at least 6 M$, then the cap quickly becomes unsustainable. Lawson Crouse got 4.3 AAV a few years ago as they saw a similar player (but more physical)

Look at Frank Vatrano, who has scored 154 goals in 501 games since 2018-19 (25 goals per 82 games average), which is the 57th most in the whole NHL since then, just got extended 3 years at $4,571,189

Zetterlund has 41 goals in 146 games since last season, which is a 23 goals per 82 games average, should get around 4.5-5.0 AAV due to the cap rising.

I think Nick Paul and Ridly Greig are simply in a tier above Lazar and Ostapchuk. 3rd liners vs 4th liners IMO. Sure, every regular NHL player will have some career years, like Lazar who has a 20 pts and a 25 pts season but in the end, he's 30 y/o and averages 7 goals, 18 pts per 82 games.

Nick Paul is the same age but is a late bloomer. (of course, when you've got that kind of size/talent package). He's started slow but now he's up to 17 goals, 34 pts per 82 games! Another HUGE mistake from Dorion to let this guy go. Nick Paul, Connor Brown and Dylan DeMelo should have been long term Sens

Ridly Greig is still 22 y/o so he's just starting but he already has an average of 13 goals, 30 pts per 82 games...

I can't see Ostapchuk ending in the 30 pts+ average. Maybe in the 20+ pts club if all goes well. He's only 1 year younger than Greig and has 4 NHL points in 50 games (while Greig has 55 pts in 155 games)

Nick Paul, Ridly Greig >>> Curtis Lazar, Zack Ostapchuk

Good comp with Lazar IMO.

Wasn’t Ostapchuk apart of the Karlsson trade tree?

Yes, from the Sharks conditional 2nd round pick in 2021

"Ottawa will receive a second-round pick in 2021 if Karlsson re-signs with the Sharks for the 2019–20 NHL season and the Sharks do not make the 2019 Stanley Cup Finals"

This deal is so exciting. I think the Norris trade was smart but not a slam dunk to be a win and it took one of our better shooters off of our roster... but Staios replaced that shot with a better one! We are significantly better now compared to before and I think we can keep this group intact a few more years at least. We are going to love this guy, he's a filthy shooter and we need exactly that. I also think he and Batherson would have good chemistry.

I haven't watched Zetterlund much (or at least wasn't focused on him watching any SJ games). What is it that you see in his game that will give him good chemistry with Bath?

If it happens that will be great, because we desperately need to get Batherson back on track and more consistent.

I am a fan of Baths ability as a playmaker, really good at finding guys in soft ice and setting them for the 1T. He's also great at cross seam passed and low to high. Zetterlund loves getting in soft ice, he's not a huge puck carrier - he's a shooter. You never know until they play together but styles should mesh. I have not been the biggest Cozens fan but you can't deny he's a good playmaker as well so could be a good fit beside him as well.
