Prospect Info: Fabian Lysell

This is a tough one

To me the answer isn't Lysell and Hertl in isolation

First - what other assets are traded to acquire Hertl

And - is DeBrusk part of a Hertl deal or does he go in a different deal to bring something back

And- do we solve the equally large ( if not larger ) gap on D

one player....and I think Hertl is very, very good...doesn't make the Bs a serious contender . Sweeney needs to engineer a series of multiple trades- and I don't know if he has either the appetite or the vision to get it accomplished

Said again: Defense, defense, defense.

This, much more than "shiny new toys" (as Kirk Luedeke would say) up front, is the Bruins crying need.

As Evan Marinofsky and Conor Ryan note, you can add major on D, or you can add 2C. You can't do both.

Boston needs a serious upgrade in size, strength, TOI, and yes, "toughness" on the blueline. Two adds if at all possible. One, at least, is essential.

A team with Marchand, Pasta, and Taylor Hall in your forward lines and McAvoy as your #1 is not competitive enough to build around? It's not like all the Bruins core players are aging out here. You bring a center like Hertl, a top 4 LD, and what giant holes are left that require a 3-4 year rebuild?

I agree with you, but the problem is the wrong guy is in charge to bring these guys in and fix these giant holes and then build around. He's wasted so much cap space and in the process has traded futures away, attempting to fix his blunders and now he seems to be repeating the same old cycle.

Maybe you are right- I am a touch more optimistic about Sweeney, though maybe I have no reason to be. I also don't think he's going anywhere anytime soon, so we have to hope he can do the job.

He is pretty slick! He does not waste time when he gets a chance.I am sure Bruins are happy with his progress.

He looks like he can finish, though a couple of those goals were somewhat weak.

The question is in what deal would you move him?
JT Miller for him, DeBrusk and '22 2nd?

Love these two. My favorite Bruins podcast is the Bruins Beat. Short episodes, Evan knows his stuff and Ryan too (not always on but a lot of the time).

Kind of reminds me of Point

Small but explosive talent

Aside from both being about the same size there
are significant differences between them.

Most importantly, Point is a C. Point was also significantly more explosive then Lysell offensively
at this time in their Jr. careers. It really wasn't until
Point's last Jr season he was surrounded with
future NHL level talent so until that time
their surrounding cast looks similar.

I would expect Lysell to hopefully project to be
a Mitch Marner light type player. Maybe peaks production at a 75 point level.

Is this new news? Everything I’ve seen says he’s being heavily shopped.
I was checking the 2016 trade day thread March 2016 here last week and the guy saying the Nucks won’t trade JT STARTED a thread blasting Sweeney & Neely and said they were doomed it was over, they had just missed playoffs and dark dark days ahead

he was correct they did miss 2016 playoffs but drafted McAvoy

the next 5 years leading to today only team to make playoffs and advance
Cup Finals 2019
President Trophy 2020

I’m not sure I’d bet the mortgage Nucks don’t trade Miller / although I agree it’s no lock at all he’s arguably their best player and they would want a bounty

Marner where I’m at also

assuming Bergeron stays I would like to see Lysell at RW with him at camp

Lysell is more feisty/chippy than Marner. This is why I brought up Point

But in terms of skills/position. Marner is not a bad comp

I have also seen a younger Tyler Johnson

It's a relatively new wrinkle, yes. Apparently, they want to keep JT while moving out other players.

My Lysell jersey came today

start the countdown for when his is traded

You know, Andrew raycroft makes a good point. It's not original to him. And that is, JT Miller is already what Fabian Lysell, if lucky, could become in future.

I believe JT is 29 years old. And he may be able to fill that center position for a few years going ahead. Five or so years going ahead.

Maybe, as others have suggested and I have resisted, the bruins could sign JT Miller and surrender Fabian for the present and near future.

Sweeney locking existing players into solid extensions at good cap hits I like, his college UFA signings have been nice, drafting and developing is what worries me but sounds like, based on this past summer`s draft things might be looking a bit better. Personally though, I get the feeling Cam has waaaaaaay too much say on things but maybe that`s just me

JT Miller is a very good player but I'm hanging on the Fabian unless a deal is expanded to a bigger trade adding a top 4 Dman from someone.
