I guess we'll have to see. I just don't feel like the Leafs will get the value out of those players.
The only player with term traded was Yandle aside from the Clarkson miracle. Will we see 2 or 3 tomorrow? I don't see it happening.

Phaneufs salary will not look as bad when free agency rolls around, and there are very few top-end defencemen available. Cody Franson might be one of the priciest ufas out there... what's he gonna get, 5.5 minimum, maybe more from a desperate team? Is Franson better than Phaneuf? Suddenly his cap won't look as bad.

I am ready for some Clarkson type moves tomorrow. I tend to think we will sit tight with the bigger moves till this summer. But I think their are fishing lures in the water from Nonis on a whole lot of players, all it takes for one GM to take the bait. The encouraging part is a lot of GM's are overpaying now, so we will see what happens.
Too bad about Holzer though, injury means probably lost deal for a pick.

If we could somehow move out Phaneuf, Lupul and Bozak's contracts, without having to take on an even bigger albatross, I'd deem this the best TDL ever for us.
If we're going to retain any salary on a player, I would only want to do so on a guy that is a pending UFA. That way, we get that space opened up next year and could retain salary on another player in 2015-2016 if needed. (Right now we have Gunnarson and Winnik).
So far, we're using Gunnarson as one of our three retained deals next season. If we can hold those other two spots open until next year's TDL, we would have a ton of flexibility and could squeeze out better offers from teams by retaining a ton of salary.

Oh I don't doubt they have interest in Phaneuf, I just don't think that trading Cole had anything to do with clearing cap space to trade for him before 3pm tomorrow.

I'm sorry if its been discussed already but would it be possible to trade Dion to the Bruins for Savard's contract and Subban, something along the lines of that??
doesnt really matter for the bruins to give up savard, they make enough money to pay it. doesnt go on the cap either i believe

Basically Phaneuf at ~6Mx6 in terms of salary.

I'm talking about actual value based on the salaries of other players, not the value of a free agent fringe #4 defensemen on a scare market
