You might as well just re-sign Holzer to a 1 year deal, which I'm sure he'd take if you give him ~1.5M. He's played well this season. I don't think I trade him for anything less than a 4th in 2015 or a 3rd in 2016.

With that said, I'm not expecting much of anything tomorrow. Jokinen and Booth trades are the only thing that seems likely.

That's a fair price for Holzer. Petry wants a crap ton, but I would say Holzer has challenged him on play this year, and is a quarter of the cap... I think a 4th in 2015 is fair, especially when some teams lose out on Petry, Zidlicky and Michalek. Let's see what happens, we may wait and trade him last tomorrow. We could get a serious price for him.

At this point I think there is >10% Phaneuf is back next year. Enough speculation that he will be gone.

I have a feeling tomorrow is the day too. Just enough interest and he would be the biggest addition this year.

Usually when the speculation/rumours are as crazy as they are now something happens. Where there is smoke there is fire.

I have a weird feeling nothing will happen at all an that will not sit well with me...

I do think we're in a similar, and will be in a better position than Arizona.

Nylander I think is going to be better than Domi
I think Duclair > Brown
Reilly is gonna be good, dont know about OEL good, but I think it'll be close.
Both of us will have early picks this year, and unless they win the lottery, the prospects we choose wont be far and away better than one another.

Whatever we get for Kessel will be better than anyone on their roster could get (Assuming they dont trade OEL)

PHaneuf, Lupul, Bozak will probably net us some decent picks/prospects

If we trade Bernier, I think we can another 1st round pick. Maybe around middle of the pack this year. Maybe Dallas will offer up their first for Bernier on draft day?

Overall, if management gets fair value or fleeces other teams, I think we'll end up being in a better position than Arizona.

It was a joke . I have no idea who the better prospect is.

Holzer has had an okay season, has not challenged Petry on "play". The difference is one is a top 4 and the other is a utility defenseman.

Maximum will get a 4th pending he's even healthy

Prices are getting out of control. Cole gets a 2nd and 2 prospects.

I hope the Leafs deal this entire whole team if this is the starting point.

Elliot Friedman on Sunday Night Hockey:

If the Leafs want to move Phaneuf tomorrow, there are offers on the table if they want to retain salary.

If there is compensation for retaining the salary, I could see it. But it better be good, if not just wait it out.

Very fair I'd say. If he's injured for a bit and teams balk, might as well re-sign him. At his worst he's a #7-8 defender really. Plus, he's a RHD.

2 average prospects and Detroit gets a pick back as well.

It's not huge, but it's still a pretty big price tag to pay for a guy that will only play 20 games for your team.

Petry is not a top 4 defenseman on any good team. Overrated IMO. I have concerns on whether or not he'd even be one on our team...

:amazed: The talking heads on Trade Center don't think Lupul will go, and think Leafs need to retain 1.5 to 2.0 million to make Phaneuf tradeable.

Don't forget he's a big 6'3 RHD that can be used in all situations. Solid #4, Holzer has yet to crack the leafs line-up permanently

Let's take off the goggles for a second, pump the breaks and atleast show respect for the value of other players

The trade special thing? Meh, we'll see I guess. Not that much retention on Phaneuf though for sure.

I believe teams are asking for 1.5-2. I don't think that's what's needed to get him gone.

With the Clarkson anchor gone, I'm not as concerned with dumping Dion. We need to deal him, but on our terms. Unless someone is paying damn well for him, I'm not interested in any more than $1,000,000 retained.

I think 1,000,000 retained would do it for me.

It sucks to bite the bullet on an insignificant cap number for so long, however, the Leafs did elect to buyout Tucker for 1,000,000 over 6 seasons

Meh, not a fan of Petry... Maybe that's because Oilers fans expect more than what we got for Franson. In no world should Petry go for more than a 2nd and a prospect, even with overpayment.

I've also seen Petry a couple of times, he has looked pretty bad. Maybe that was just the few games, but he looked pretty bad. I've also hear some reporters say that teams will regret paying for him.

Petry will still get more than Holzer, and is a better overall player and will get a stupid price. Either way, I don't think he should be a top 4 defenseman on any contending team.

I'm all for changing the core and getting assets back, but the thought of retaining on Phaneuf for another 6 years makes no sense to me. It's not that it'll hurt a rebuilding team that probably (shouldn't) be near the cap, but it's just bad management. Do not create a 6 year albatross of any kind. I'd take a crappy salary back for a few years maybe (say a package from philly that included at least a first, and the last 2 years of vinnies contract) or something like that. But PLEASE no more asterisks at the botttom of our lineup showing all the buyouts and dead cap in our system.
