My demands are simple, Don.

I want 2 of Nino, Palat, Tarasenko, or Laine.

I will drink 1 beer every hour until my demands are met.

And just to show you I’m serious…

*cracks open a beer

The next one won’t be Miller Lite.
you know we aint trading for Tarasenko or Laine.

I wouldnt mind helping Calgary with their rebuild though. They did very little today. One Tkachuck please.

I wouldnt mind some serious Chaos. Sign Colin Miller to a 1 year gig. Move Bear to save money. Go sign Bergeron for a good 1 year gig, just to make people angry. get / sign 1 other cheaper winger. profit.

I'm not saying Bear is an idiot, but if he thinks he's getting more from arbitration than his QO...
There is a good chance his agent is.

It's a very weird thing to pull off, to the extent that it looks like Bear has instucted his agent to act against his best financial interests.

Seems to me like they’re trying to insure they’ve got enough flexibility to hopefully get Aho locked in long term when the time comes, Pesce as well.

Sucks that Marchment decided to go with DAL but I completely understand. Guy just lost his dad and would prefer to go where he’s got a support system, familiar coach that he’s know his whole life, and a group of players that he’s friends with. It ain’t all about money sometimes.

The FO might be comfortable with KK as #2 but I doubt Rod is. That’s going to be a battle, I expect Jordan is going to end up logging way too many minutes this season.

I’m still not 100% sold on Rod being the right coach for a young team built on analytics, but so far the results speak for themselves. I think he tries to “balance” the lineup too much when maybe loading up the top two lines would produce a little more scoring. It seems like the FO acquires players to fit certain roles and then the coaching staff does something completely different? Maybe that’s just me? I’m still holding onto a shred of hope we get at least one new assistant this season, or they bring in someone to help fix the pp.

I personally think analytics are more important when determining players to acquire and how to construct a roster. Why? Because no scout, coach, GM etc..can watch enough of a player from another team or another league to get enough "observable" information.

When coaching your own team though, you DO get to see enough observable stuff where your "eye test" will more closely match what the analytics say. Nobody needed analytics to know that Nino-Staal-Fast were a dominant possession line for instance. Rod and the coaches could see that with their own eyes.

And within a game or even game to game, players go through spells where they aren't working together and a coach needs to react so analytics go out the window.

There are definitely some areas (match-ups, which players work best with each other long term, etc..) where analytics can help, but in many cases, the coach also sees it.

Lastly, I think it's probably healthy to have both people of differing opinions within an organization. Good to have dissenting opinions at times.

Doesn't mean it's perfect though. Every coach has blind spots for players.

Burakovsky and Perron deals I look at and think damn, we could’ve done those deals.

Bura was very poor defensively and doesnt even add on the PP. Perron on the other hand, yea.

In fact that's the usual outcome. Actually getting to arbitration isn't that common anymore
Filing for arbitration is a great way to force a deadline on your contract negotiations. Barring a walk-away situation, RFA is quaranteed to have a SPC well before the next season starts, either a negotiated one or an arbitrator-awarded one.

If the flyers were to sign Gaudreau I wouldn’t mind trying to pry Boone Jenner from them to get them under the cap, provided we know if his Back is healed

His agent (not a significant roster of clients):

I didn't look the name up beforehand, so I could more confidently call him an idiot.

85 percent of Bear's final year salary 2.5M is 2.125M... not too far from the QO of 2.4M. I consider it a possibility, as unlikely it should be, that his agent may have messed up and erroneusly thought that Bear is guaranteed to get the 85 % regardless of who filed for arbitration.

I already called him an idiot, I guess I can safely call him an amateur.

If that's their actual offer, Gaudreau would be a fool to reject it.
Reportedly he has a pregnant wife, whose relatives live somewhere where PHI and NJD would make most sense.

But that extra money should cause a pause there.

Keklu gonna piss Laine off by throwing money left and right at UFAs and playing hardcueball with him. It's wondrous.

The general consensus over the Columbus board is that **IF** they pull off landing Gaudreau, Laine is almost certainly going to be traded.

Gaudreau going to Columbus would be better for us than him going to NJ. No centers there to help him out.

please no to Laine

Including Chatfield, Noesen, and Drury on the roster cap and NOT including Necas as we don’t have a dollar value and NOT including Bears qualifying offer since we don’t have final number award from arbitration yet….

we have 10 forwards, 6 d men, and 2 goalies with confirmed contracts…. 1 forward rfa and 1 dmen rfa…. So assuming they will sign and not be traded, that’s really 11 forwards and 7dmen and 2 goalies….

confirmed salary is $69,979,417 with remaining salary cap of $12,520,583.

estimated cap hits for our RFAs: $2.5m for Bear, $4m for Necas….

remaining cap hit if those numbers come to pass….. $6,020,583…..

to sign 2 more forwards including a supposed upgrade in top six for elite goal scorer and a needed 3rd line left winger for Staals line…

soooooooooooo. How are we pulling that off……

we could give Necas a smaller 1 year deal and see how he does. It allows us to clear Gardiner and Staal of the books and gives him a shot to regain cost. 2.5 mil. Then bury Gardiner saving another 1.1 million.

Chaos mode: Trade for Toews at 40% retain for Gardiner and a couple of prospects. Toews doesnt want to wait, like Kane.
