With all due respect if all 3 are on the team full time next year I worry that we royally f***ed up free agency

Nah. Drury - 4th line and Chatfield - 3rd pair were locks. Noesen replacing Lorentz makes sense too. Wild card is Morrow…if he makes a great leap this year then why couldn’t he be a late season solution?

The real key is replacing Nino’s position and if a great goal scorer is available then I’m ok with fast and Necas plus prospects leaving to make room.

I think it is a guarantee we have those three on the big club unless they bomb out, injuryor as part of other deals we end up with a glut of replace, ent players that take their spot….

chat as 6/7 was always and almost lock after last season…

Drury was as close to a lock guarantee as ever existed based on his cup of coffee and his play in AHL last season..

now that Lorentz is not with us anymore as part of the Burns deal, Noesen makes perfect sense as 13th forward competing to have a spot in regular rotation on 4th line..l.

none of those move the needle or are surprises….. it’s how we finish the openings in the top 9 that will dictate some stuff next season…

Actually:

12.5 Procedural Issues. (a) An election by a Player or a Club of salary arbitration made in accordance with the provisions herein, shall give to the Salary Arbitrator jurisdiction in the dispute with respect to the other party also. Subject to Section 12.10, the Salary Arbitrator's decision shall be final and binding on the parties. The Club and the Player shall sign an SPC promptly thereafter, effective as of the date the Salary Arbitrator's decision is issued, for the League Year(s) for which the request for salary arbitration was made under this Article, setting out the terms of the Salary Arbitrator's decision. The terms of the award of the Salary Arbitrator shall not be modified in any respect.

It's kind of between the lines there, but the wording is such that specifically the Club that elected or was elected for the Salary Arbitration shall be the Club that signs the SPC.

The player obviously doesn't have a SPC during the arbitration, so what would be traded would be the signing rights of the player. And... the arbitration rules kind of seem to supercede the team's right to trade the player's signing rights.

Ehhhh. If we're talking a 20 skater roster Chatfield is probably the ideal #7 d for our situation, and we could do a lot worse than Noesen as the 13th forward. Literally everyone has Drury penciled in to begin with.

Now, we still need at least one more 2nd/3rd line forward after Marchment fell through but we have a while to figure that out. Nino if still there and trade options for better players can shake loose (MaxPac, Iafallo). I'm not going to worry about it until they say that Noesen is our Nino replacement.

My demands are simple, Don.

I want 2 of Nino, Palat, Tarasenko, or Laine.

I will drink 1 beer every hour until my demands are met.

And just to show you I’m serious…

*cracks open a beer

The next one won’t be Miller Lite.
In all seriousness, I want Palat (if not, then Nino), and either Laine, Tarasenko, or JD. That'd be a win for an offseason on top of getting a top 4 RD.

Not saying we'll get any of them, but since they're "pursuing multiple trades and free agents to add a winger," those should be at the top of the list IMO.

Seems to me like they’re trying to insure they’ve got enough flexibility to hopefully get Aho locked in long term when the time comes, Pesce as well.

Sucks that Marchment decided to go with DAL but I completely understand. Guy just lost his dad and would prefer to go where he’s got a support system, familiar coach that he’s know his whole life, and a group of players that he’s friends with. It ain’t all about money sometimes.

The FO might be comfortable with KK as #2 but I doubt Rod is. That’s going to be a battle, I expect Jordan is going to end up logging way too many minutes this season.

I’m still not 100% sold on Rod being the right coach for a young team built on analytics, but so far the results speak for themselves. I think he tries to “balance” the lineup too much when maybe loading up the top two lines would produce a little more scoring. It seems like the FO acquires players to fit certain roles and then the coaching staff does something completely different? Maybe that’s just me? I’m still holding onto a shred of hope we get at least one new assistant this season, or they bring in someone to help fix the pp.

If a player agrees to a trade before arbitration can they back out? Or is it once in all in until the hearing?

They can mutually come to a voluntarily negotiated agreement on the terms before the hearing and sign a SPC, in which case the arbitration procedure gets voided. This happens often.

But you can't back out by yourself I believe.

In fact that's the usual outcome. Actually getting to arbitration isn't that common anymore
