Low downforce on road courses allows actual racing to happen. The drivers talent shows more as they man handle the cars and there is less dirty air to get trapped behind, causes more passing. They aren’t glued to the track like slot cars like F1 which makes it hard to pass. Its also safer, its harder to catch a high downforce car on fast curves when it slips because the traction is reliant on the downforce, low downforce and the driver can actually save the car with their talent, as shown with Pato wheeling it at 210 mph on Sunday. A high downforce package and thats a crash, no way to save this
Also, low downforce on ovals is safer as it doesn’t create pack races. If they had high downforce everyone will be full throttle and you will have dangerous packs like this where they cant get separated and bad things happen.
