I think many people had this guy in the Round 1-2 range when he came in as a 16 year old. Unfortunately it’s not looking like that now.. Though he’s still a great player but for one of the top teams in the league you’d expect to have a high +/- but it currently sits flat at -2. Also his skills compared to his height don’t look to scream anything either. He’s also had many opportunity’s to contribute on all four lines for the team and nothing works. I don’t expect him to go undrafted I think he’s capable at least around the round 6-7 range but nothing exciting. Maybe he’ll have stronger years in the future but for now that’s what I believe.

Wasn't this guy considered (few years ago) as a NHL Nr. 1 pick?

When he was 13 he was probably the best player in Canada. I watched him and his speed was just unreal compared to his peers. He was getting 5 breakaways and a dozen chances a game. But he just stopped growing at 5-foot-7 and other kids caught up. He also wasn't a particularly great finisher even in pee-wee. Speed is a bit of a curse in your players because you can dominate with speed alone and if you don't round it out with other skills, you plateau.

You could start to see a guy like Samuel Poulin (same home town and age) catching him in bantam/midget and it's just continued with Poulin growing to 6-foot-2 (and a possible 1st round pick).

I wouldn't bet against this guy. He's a big game player and hasn't looked out out place in the international tournaments. I do think that his size has set him back about a year in player development. He's strong tough and doesn't get hurt. Doesn't back away from contact and has a knack for knocking bigger player on their back sides. He's also very good on board battles and doesn't get knocked off the puck like others have suggested. He's not going 1OA in this years draft.

I agree with all of this. He's a project but the upside is there for sure. Once he pieces it together he could serve to be a steal; he was one of the best Moose last playoffs.

Living in Quebec Xavier made the headlines throughout his minor years . He was pegged as a next star nhler. But he never grew and his abilities tapered off when the competition got better.
I dont see him ever making the nhl(a short stint not considered) let alone a star

Think anyone will take a flyer? He's a lot better then what his stats say
I don't think he gets chosen this year. There will be picks that turn out as lesser players though. Someone will give him an invite. If he produces better next year he may get signed. Lots of scouts at the games now. Not that many through the season like last year.

He's been a personal fave of mine. Maybe if he keeps scoring in the Mem Cup some team will take a shot. But at his size I know you have to produce and stand out. With development I think he can improve. I'm rooting for him anyway.

Prime example of why posters should just STFU when it comes to projecting 11 and 12 yrold s . Get a life!!! and let those kids (who simply developed earlier) play without crap being posted about them

Hope he gets his chance at the draft today.
This kid has played all his life with Poulin who got drafted in the 1st round, and anybody who as seen them on the ice next to each other is gonna tell you how much Parent is way ahead of the other talent wise.
Very gritty player for his size.
What lead to this downfall is where he as played juniors.
Parent was drafted by a team with not much talent ahead if him and was given an important role where he had great opportunities to grow.
Parent is on a fantastic team where he has second fiddle role.
Like the saying goes, better be a big fish in a small pond than a small fish in a big pond.

Good trade for both sides. I'll miss Parent and I hope he has a big year next year but getting Whynot means the Moose will have arguably the best skating defensive corps immediately and Whynot will be a star.

My gf who won his signed DND jersey this year is quite disappointed.

A brief recap of this thread:

RDS video on Parent. Entirely French but shows some highlights as well.

Only time will tell, but he has as much hype as any peewee player coming out of Quebec since Mario, and those who have seen him play are saying they can't remember a player with his skill level at that age since.

Having said that, we shouldn't have any expectations yet, as it is still too early to tell if he actually projects to be a great NHL player. If he can put up big numbers as an underage player in Midget next year the hype will start to really pick up.

That article says he was 5'7, 145lbs last season.

It also interviews Rimouski's head scout who basically says every Q team has been salivating over him since the Quebec Peewee international tournament he dominated.

exceptional Status? or not Good enough?

I honestly don't think we can crown that title to anyone yet. Especially given how Foote, Dach and Krebs have been playing in the WHL right now. #1 prospect for 2019 is still a very much open debate.

He hasn't been the top prospect of 2019 for a while now. That doesn't mean he isn't a top prospect he is one of the better ones right now, I don't think anyone is questioning that. What is a question though is as you mentioned size. Will he grow? It's doubtful that he'll be 6'1+ but he could get up to something reasonable. Poulin is also a top prospect it isn't impossible for two top prospects to be on the same team just look at the 98 birth year Jr Blues or 96 Mission.

He reminds me of a smaller Patrick Kane, smaller.

Give him some milk and have him do some specific stretches!!!

If he can get to just 5’9 it will make a world of difference.

Reminds me of Gaudreau.

No points and -2 in his first five games. Looks bad.

Ended up not getting drafted.
