It was always exaggerated how much this guy fell off, maybe on the surface but if you dig a little deeper really the only bad season he had was his draft year. Obviously that is the most important season for a prospect, but aside from that and his injury he has had a pretty good trajectory so far.
At 16 he was the 3C for a good Halifax team, very little PP time but he was effective in that role and showed flashes. About 0.5 ppg at 16 is pretty good especially with his usage. He would go to the U17s that year and lead his team in scoring, a team that featured Lafreniere, Cozens, and Krebs. He broke out offensively with Hali in the playoffs with 11 pts in 9 games. Then that summer he won gold at the Hlinka on a team where 18/20 skaters would get later drafted and 10 in the 1st round. He did't look out of place on that team. All things considered it was a fantastic rookie year and all signs pointed to a big breakout at 17.
The problem was, Halifax was hosting the mem cup and they loaded up. Parent ended up playing the exact same role again, 3C with almost no PP. His stats barely improved and in the playoffs he was a depth player. Even though the team had a lot of success it was somewhat of a failure of a year for him and he went unpicked.
Now this is when it gets muddy because he basically missed the next 2 years with injuries. His play was drastically improved and he was basically a ppg player but with Covid and injuries he played less than 50 games at ages 18+19 combined. At 20 he comes back and destroys the league. At 21 he was ppg in the ECHL, now at 22 he is so far ppg in the AHL. Bit of a long winded post but as someone who followed this player and watched him many times I always believed the skill was still there, he was unfairly labelled as a kid and obviously his size doesn't help. What a redemption arc if he came make it to the NHL
