During my 15 years in Finnish hockey, I have never heard that word. Not once.

Just in his last match against Lukko the announcer cried: "And Teravainen shoots! --- But his shot was such a LÖPPÖNEN the goalie had no difficulties to deny it."

Me neither. More commonly used term is "tussu" but that word has another meaning as well, which makes it somewhat hilarious hearing it used often on radio.

Pretty sure that's "lussu", I doubt anyone would say tussu on tv

TT's shot is sharp and he gets it off quickly, and is fairly accurate. Not the hardest, but very very quick.

I think this "tussu" derives from too origins: "lussu" and "tuhnu" are both correct sport jargon and synonymes meaning weak shot. "Tuhnu" can also be applied to a player with a bad shot. Also in usage in Finnish sport slang is the most hilarious "nuhapumppu" which is used as a general describing term of one's shot: "His slapshot is such a 'nuhapumppu'" or in English: "His slapshot is such a sniffle pump." -Moreover, one may call a bad shot "lepakko" or "bat" in English - or "d.y.k.e.", if you will.
So, "tussu" meaning "p.u.s.s.y." in Finnish can be seen as a brilliant merger of the two more original synonymous slang terms "tu(hnu)+(lu)ssu" while borrowing some imagery connotation from "lepakko" or "d.y.k.e".

So, let's elaborate - there are some minor differencies in the meanings of these terms. Okay. Teravinen's wrister is quick and accurate, it's hardly ever a "d.y.k.e"/"bat" like bad shot. You could anyway call it "p.u.s.s.y." kind of bad in the sense that it is not the hardest shot. In Finnish I would prefer to call it "tuhnu" more than "lussu", however. "Lussu" might potentially mean continuosly and permanently bad while "tuhnu" is just a bad day kind of bad shot. That shot just happened to be "tuhnu". Okay. But his wrist shot is definitely not a sniffle pump ("nuhapumppu"). That refers to just an atrociously feeble shot. However, his slap shot is more or less a sniffle pump. At least, I think so. - I cannot say for sure, cos I have never seen him use it.
Edit: And this "lopponen" - well, some outlandish peasants may use that neologism, too. :teach:

I was able to make it to the game tonight after all but now I wish I hadn't.

Jokerit team was awful tonight and no one did anything good on their team. So unfortunately TT had a bad game as well but here are some things I was able to pick out.

- Right now he could be the best player in the league when it comes to puckhandling but I think he knows it too and that's why his dekes can be to fancy. Though that makes him the most entertaining player on the ice for the fans.

- His vision and creativity are great but that also leads to too fancy plays.

- His was bad in faceoffs tonight. I haven't really taken notice about it before so I'm not sure how good he is overall. I don't remember him taking many defensive end faceoffs so there wasn't any danger from the losses. On the powerplay he had many faceoff losses which led to opponent clearing the puck and taking time off the clock.

- There wasn't any notable things in his defensive game other than that he seems really smart with the stick and he is able to block some dekes and passing plays.

- Teams whole forechecking was all over the place so he wasn't a factor in it neither

- There weren't really any puck battles or any physical situations for him so there's nothing to mention about those.

I'm going to miss the game on saturday (for real this time) so I won't be able to do this then.

So, still pointless after 3 (?) games in the FEL. The kid can do everything but not score - and neither can his team mates.

Thanks. I appreciate the detailed reports whenever you can give them - good news or bad.

Teräväinen is a superb prospect, worldclass no doubt. But still, the early season has been a disappointment. So easy to tackle the team on the performance, but thenagain when you have the kind of individuals like TT who should be able to ignite the team, you cannot fully overlook the lack of production even when the team is outperforming.

TT is the only skilled individual on the team now so it's easy for the other teams to take him out of the game.

i guess technically this isn't the correct thread, but how good is finland's wjc team expected to be? they've changed relegation this year so obviously that nightmare won't fall on them again.

is teuvo likely to be captain?

last season chicago was hoping to sign him and for him to play in the ahl this year. and it seems they entertained that again when he came to camp...so i'm sure they're not going to start freaking about his points or anything like that.

for the uninitiated...what sort of team is jokerit...i'm guessing by the anger re its lack of production it's not one of the very top teams? as an aside is it a "name" franchise. i just ask b/c even before i ever heard of teuvo a finnish friend of mine would talk about jokerit...and i was never sure whether it was a great team, a prominent team, or just his pet team.

The biggest and the most prominent team in Finland. And constantly underperforming for the last 15 years.

The biggest and the most prominent team in Finland. And constantly underperforming for the last 15 years.

Except in 2002, the last time and also the only time they won the title since moving to Hartwall Areena. After that, the team has managed to lack in either coaching, playing style(too defensive), roster lacking in one key area (goaltending, defense, centers, scoring wingers).

The biggest and the most prominent team in Finland. And constantly underperforming for the last 15 years.

The club with the best facilities and the most money available. Not even close to being the biggest or the most popular/supported.

Thank you Teuvo I love you. My bet of 3 ties in liiga tonight was right because Teuvo scored against Ilves at.... yes you got it right.. 59.59 my bank account also loves you TT !!

2-2 59:59 and his first of the season.

(Failed in the shootout)

1-3 loss vs JYP tonight and no points for TT

He was ok tonight, didn't really stood out neither good nor bad. He was better on the faceoffs than the last time I saw him.

Is he going to be a centre for sure now or is there still a chance he plays at wing.

So, 7gp 1g 1a. I donno what to say. Better remain silent.

Yup, better to wait for a bigger sample. Leading Jokerit scorer is a defenseman, while the best forward is Jarkko Ruutu with 6 pts in 12 games. So let's just wait and see.

Being honest for once - and not trolling, having "bad" wingers is no excuse for bad performance. Good centers are able to make players around them better, which Teravainen certainly isn't able to do. He is playing with Janne Lahti, who was solid last season, so was Moses. I don't think his wingers are that "bad"

I didn't like that Hawks drafted this guy, and I don't see him as a TOP 6 players in the NHL. As I've stated many times, most Finns just hype up their players, I dare you to find a post by a Finn that isn't biased, made by me, or making excuses like "bad wingers" or "terrible team" in this topic. You can go and watch a NHL stream, It's always full of Finnish people that trash talk or hype up Finnish players. "Crosby is terrible, Granlund will be a lot better player" is a word not uncommon to Finnish people in these chat rooms.

On off topic - Florida isn't exactly the best team either. I've watched a few games of Barkov, he looks solid out there. I know he has "ok" wingers around him, but they're certainly not the best out there. And it seems like that he and Huberdeau have now been separated. He was still able to produce with Fleischmann and Boyes. Granlund also seems to have improved. Teravainen on the other hand - is a lot worse than those two IMO.

He is also really small (but so is Granlund, but Granlund is way more skilled) and to make it in the NHL as a small guy, you must have exceptional skill set. He might make it, but I don't see that yet. He will probably be a second liner at best, IF HE MAKES IT.
