About Molnar incident..

Several members of this community may remember me from the past. I made videos and posted them on YouTube. Memorial Ivan Hlinka between 2010-2015.

Of course you can believe me, but you don't have to. But in this case I have no reason to lie.

It was a floorball tournament match between the two schools of Nitra and Zlate Moravce. At the end of the match, one player of the Moravce fouled Sykora badly. He was sent off, Sykora grabbed him by the neck on the way to the penalty bench, and that's how the whole incident began. The later injured player was on his team's bench at that time.

After Sykora's reaction to the foul, the players started from the benches and the battle began. Molnar took the first hit, but not from the player he injured. Molnar began to rage. First, he kicked the first opponent with his knee in the chin, causing the boy's tongue blocking airway.

Molnar continued looking for the player who fouled Sykora. He made a mistake and punched and kneed wrong opponent in the face, causing a major jaw fracture to a player who had nothing to do with the incident.

The injured player underwent surgery.

The irony of everything is that the injured player is a fan of HK Nitra, attending the team's matches.
Thank you for the write up. Were you present or is this second hand information?

Maybe the most unpredictable pick of the draft. If he’s a ppg player for the rest of the season in the O, he could be a top 2 round pick but with all the background stuff could be drafted in the later rounds too.

3 points in his last 2 games. Not a good season statistically in Erie, will need to have a good performance alongside Dvorsky on the first line at U18 WC. Now the question, who is the “3rd” guy on that line alongside those 2

Feels like a guy who Tampa will draft late and then have everyone wondering how they ended up with him in a year or two.

How do you see your chances in the draft? Due to what happened, I'm not going to the combine. So I don't know what to expect. My agent and agency tell me that I'll be drafted and they believe in it. Those are things that I can't influence. Whatever happens, will happen. It's a shame because it's something that can't be controlled, and I'm more or less innocent in that regard, but I won't dwell on it. It's a pity because it could have been the first or second round. I was mentally prepared for it, and my performances were good. But after the incident, those performances weren't entirely ideal. I couldn't focus on hockey. People discussed it in various ways, and everyone has their own opinion, but no one knows how it really was. Sometimes it's quite entertaining to read what the media write. It doesn't bother me; life goes on. It hasn't broken me.

Don't you want to explain it then? I don't want to comment on it. Everything will be revealed in due time. I believe that I'll be drafted. I've been communicating with scouts from each team, and it's mentally demanding. You're supposed to go in the first two rounds, but now I have absolutely no idea what position it might be. We'll see; anything can happen.

So the teams confirmed that you won't go to the combine because of the floorball incident? Yes. It's because of that, and I just have to respect it. It's my stupidity, of course. But those are things I can't control. I don't expect to go in the first two rounds, definitely not. I think it will be more realistic in the later rounds, if at all. The draft isn't everything; it's just the first step that gives a player an opportunity. I know many players who weren't drafted and are now playing in the NHL. I believe in myself; I think I have what it takes in terms of hockey. The incident complicates things, but I still think I have a chance in the first two rounds, and I believe the scouts know that too. We'll see how it turns out.

So you're in contact with NHL teams? Yes, although less now because of what happened and because I'm not going to the combine.

From which teams did you feel a greater interest? It's hard for me to say because I communicated with every team. When I went to America, I felt a greater interest from Chicago and Arizona.

Did they ask about the incident too? They did ask, but they didn't really make a big deal out of it.

Do you have a preferred team where you would like to end up? In the current situation, it doesn't matter to me, but I would like to play, for example, in Chicago or Toronto, which I really like.

Do you plan to attend the draft? I can't say right now. I'll see what my agent says. If it's the fifth or sixth round, I probably won't go.

Do you have any ambitions for next year? Would you like to play in the U20 World Championship? That's also a question that I can't fully influence, and I don't know how it will turn out with the national team. It's hard for me to say now. It's always an honor for me to represent Slovakia, and I would love to go to the World Championships, especially since they are in Gothenburg, which is quite close to us. We also know that 2004 and 2005 are strong age groups. We could bring the best players and achieve success. I would love to go for that reason alone. We'll see how it

Huge red flag in my opinion, he should be more then happy IF he even gets drafted after his poor DY (not because of the incident), but he looks so upset by theoretically getting drafted in later rounds instead of first two rounds.

Its either 7th round or not drafted at all for me and im saying it as his fellow countryman

Yeah, maybe it's lost in translation, but I don't see remorse for what he actually did. Instead, he seems upset he will miss on all the good stuff that getting drafted in the top rounds brings.

I can't see him going undrafted though, despite his terrible stats in the OHL. Upside remains too big to pass on it altogether and every year we see total bozos get drafted, because some NHL organizations just don't care.

This is what Scott wheeler said about him in an article a couple weeks ago:

“Still, it would leave me a little apprehensive about taking him as a first-year eligible higher than Rounds 5 to 7, and because he was a player who was once considered a second-round guy, I expect that he’ll still go a little higher than my taste even if he has fallen for some. I like the way he skates (good base, quick acceleration), competes, finds and steals pucks, but he can also force it and get away from how he needs to play.”

His numbers on Erie are bad relative to OHL draft eligibles but within his own team they are pretty normal. Carey Terrance, widely viewed as a top 3 round pick (maybe even raised to should be picked in the second round or early third after a good U18) had 47 pts in 67 games for Erie and did not have to adjust to all the things imports have to.

Molnar will likely be drafted but I don’t see him going higher than 5th round at the highest unless some team like Vegas who has taken dart board shots on Euro players in the past like him a lot and had a great zoom interview with him or something. Wouldn’t surprise me if Toronto took a flyer on him, or a team with less picks and they hope something is there down the line.

To be fair, it’s usually all about what the agents tell their players. It’s easy to forget these kids are still extremely young, and if they have an agent who tells them “you’re awesome, you should be drafted way higher”, they’ll believe it. These guys have absolutely no feel for what it takes to get drafted. They just do their thing and listen to their agents.

Now apart from his floorball incident. You can see in him what happens to almost every Slovak prospect. Stagnation. I think it is partly a question of mentality. Yes, there is a progress from last season. But... Looking back to the 2019/2020 or even 2020/2021 season, his play and progression today is not really what was expected of him a couple of years ago. What he excelled at, for example, HGC and in the past, i.e. speed, stick technique and shot. Today it really doesn't look like he can still use those skills he was good at in the past effectively at this level. Looking at his game today, that speed has disappeared somehow. Yes, he's better as far as the two-way side is concerned. But considering what type of player he is, for me personally, stagnation and slight disappointment.

The question, however, is where the mistake occurred. Did Nitra make a mistake by pulling him to the men very early when he wasn't physically ready for it, or is the mistake in Ondrej Molnar himself and therefore in his head, he can't use his talent (something like Martin Reway style).
