He might be good at football, but we're talking about him as the equivalent of like a top 75 football recruit for hockey. If he was that, he'd have offers from pretty much all the big football schools.
Yep, according to 247Sports, he has football offers from Kent State, Marshall, Miami (OH), and South Dakota. Ranked as the 114th best QB in the Class of 2026 and ranked 10th amongst Minnesotans in the Class of 2026. Nothing too special in football. We'll see where this goes, but considering he's already playing well as a 2007 in the USHL, you'd think hockey is the better option for his career path in terms of making it pro.He might be good at football, but we're talking about him as the equivalent of like a top 75 football recruit for hockey. I didn't even realize he was now playing USHL. Has 1+5=6 points in 9 games for Fargo.Yep, according 247Sports, he has football offers from Kent State, Marshall, Miami (OH), and South Dakota. He should go in the 2nd considering the talent, but if GMs don't get a "100% commitment to hockey" from him, he will fall. I've said in other threads that the talent drop off is significant late in the 2nd round going into the early 3rd round, so 2nd round is where West should go based on pure talent. I think a team with multiple picks in the 2nd and 3rd round would be most likely to gamble on him; I'm looking at teams like Philadelphia, Nashville, Boston, Seattle, San Jose to gamble in the 2nd on West (if they're sure he's playing hockey in the NCAA).He’ll be under-drafted if goes Rd 3, IMO. He’s a 6’5” or 6’6” RHS with vision and hands and is a natural athlete. I think he goes in the 2nd.
This is years back but I remember him as being a year older than me.this guy is super intriguing. wasn't there another kid in a similar spot a few years ago? not spellacy. another minnesota
kid that was a stud in both sports and fielding tons of offers.
Could he be a first round pick? His stats are legit.3A last night, up to 10 GP 9PTS
He's at best going to be a 2nd round pick due to the potential of him just playing football. Pure talent, he's the type that several teams would draft in the late 1st, I just don't see that happening unless he stops playing football right now.Could he be a first round pick? His stats are legit.
He’s not any shorter than Letourneau, and probably a better skater.
Different players, but has more of a junior track record at the same age and his track record is better than Letourneau at that age.
There is never a group of 10-20 kids.Is it me or is this a really weak draft for depth USA kids from the USHL? Like who is going second - third round non ntdp kids from the USHL? . I would take him and Rombach and maybe Kevan but it’s not like it’s a group of 10-20 kids .
I've heard he is special at football, though raw, because of the quality of HS football he plays and splitting his time between a top HS hockey program, and football. His size and athleticism would be intriguing to schools, and i could see a coach from a big school like Notre Dame taking him as a project. The NIL money available for football dwarfs anything in hockey.
He is a good kid, apparently.
I think someone will take a shot on him in the 1st also. His potential is intriguing. Definitely a boom/bust type pickI think he goes in the first
Wouldn't be opposed to him going in the 20s, but I think early 2nd round is probably the best spot for him. A lot less pressure on a kid who is relatively unknown (and might not even commit to hockey) with a "2" next to his name rather than a "1". No casual fan would care or really know about Dean Letourneau's lack of production in his D+1 if he's a 2nd rounder instead of a 1st rounder.I think he goes in the first
Eh if he can move and they like his frame… I can see power 4 offers. Only so many guys are 6’5 and can move in pads.As a diehard ND football fan, zero shot he plays football. They have big time money going into that program now, and a player like west would never have a shot to scratch playing. I have read articles where he is focusing on hockey moving forward unless something crazy happens. I definitely see him cracking the nhl, and that is his best opportunity to go professional which I think he knows as well.
Most cake eater families like to go to Notre DameAny updates or rumors on his recruitment? Michigan has done a good job recruiting players out of Minnesota in the past but I wonder if he's all but setup to be a Gopher, Maverick or Fighting Hawk.
