Difference is West will go in the 2nd round, inherently have much less pressure on him due to that, and go to the USHL for a year of junior before going to the NCAA.This year’s Dean Letourneau.

Except this kid produced in the USHL and seems to be an elite all around athlete. This year’s Dean Letourneau.
In a weak draft, it’s kind of the perfect ingredient for the great athlete mystery box to sneak somewhere in the 20s.He's one of the most "mysterious" player of this draft.
With the quantity of small forward available in the 1st round this year, wouldn't surprise me if Mason West would go higher than anticipated.
Even more with him clarifying his intentions of putting all his eggs in hockey basket.
Wouldn't surprise me if he goes between 22 and 32....
Yeah, not saying he’s exactly the same, but there are some parallels I can’t help but notice. And we’ve got an extremely small sample size to go off of as far as USHL goes for him. That’s mainly what I was commenting on.Except this kid produced in the USHL and seems to be an elite all around athlete.

Fargo or Dub. Probably FargoWhere’s he expected to play next season? My understanding is he was a Jr in HS this season (Aug 07 b-day so I guess that makes sense).
I can’t imagine he’d play for Edina HS again but maybe stick with USHL Fargo? Or maybe he could accelerate his schooling and play in the NCAA next year. But I don’t see him as being committed to a college program yet.

I don't think he's finished Grade 12 yet, he was still just completing Grade 11 this year since he's a later 2007 birthday in the States, I imagine the cut date for Edina is June 1 or July 1.I don't think NCAA is out of the question
Any reason for West over Horcoff?I wouldn’t mind the Flyers taking a stab at him. With 3 1sts and 4 2nds, at least one of the later picks should be a homerun type of swing and I think West fits that
Horcoff is a relatively poor skater. West hasn't played at the junior level very long and has more potential to explode than Horcoff, who is probably just a bottom 6er.Any reason for West over Horcoff?![]()
With 6 picks between pick 22 and 48, I’m sure they’ll have a chance at both if they wish. It seems they’ll get one of Hagens/Frondell/Desnoyers at #6 and Briere said they they are hoping for 2 centers in the 1st round so I’m guessing that throws Horcoff in the mix with a bunch of other guys at #22 or #31/32.Any reason for West over Horcoff?![]()
Mason is intriguing. Super athlete that’s 6’6” and very young. Playing with the age group that gets drafted in 2026 his whole life. Then scoring 9 points in 10 USHL games when the competition gets tougher. Makes you think there is a lot of potentialI don't think he's finished Grade 12 yet, he was still just completing Grade 11 this year since he's a later 2007 birthday in the States, I imagine the cut date for Edina is June 1 or July 1.
