Looks like a top 5-10 pick playing out there. He is legit.

He comes as advertised, his father’s shot and scoring ability but unlike Pierre he skates well and he has grit. He plays center but I’m not sold on him being a center at the pro level. He must also improve his game in the defensive zone.

Lucas Beckman didn’t get as much exposure as D’Aigle but he’s very solid in Baie-Comeau.

MacKinnon was relentlessly booed in Shawinigan whenever he would come with Halifax because he refused to play for Shawinigan, so there is precedent

There are a lot of players who do that and they’re not called brats. Nathan MacKinnon didn’t want to report to the team that drafted him but I wouldn’t call him a brat.

Players have options. Dagenais even had more than usual players because he could have opted for the OHL and he had NCAA interest.

1. Baie-Comeau drafted MacKinnon even though he told them he wouldn't report. He hold out and they traded him.

2. Maddox and his family moved to Ontario a few years ago so he was a resident of Ontario at the time of the draft and thus eligible to the OHL Draft. However, since his father played in the QMJHL he was also eligible to the Q Draft. He chose the QMJHL.

The Sim brothers and Aiden O'Donnell who are Nova Scotia residents chose the OHL. Jon Sim played in the OHL and Chris O'Donnel played in the QMJHL (46 games) and the OHL (5 games).

Had a chance to watch him in person when the Remparts came to town this past Friday. You can tell he's a talented kid with a frame that will please scouts, but I didn't find he was particularly noticeable at driving play. At the same age, I'd have Desnoyers and Guite both slightly ahead of him in that regard. That being said, it's clear he can absolutely rip the puck and he will be an absolute PP merchant in the Q off the right wall.

Looking forward to seeing his development in between now and his next visit to Halifax.

Dagenais isn't an exceptional rookie. He's a rookie with a good start and interesting tools. Your assessment is about one viewing in a loss. You've only seen Guite once as well if your assessments are based on when Quebec teams play in Halifax.

There was a post or two earlier in the thread (not from you, per say) referring to him as a top 5/10 or lottery level talent. I just didn't see that on Friday, but it doesn't mean he doesn't have it in him. Just conveying what I saw.

And yes - I did see Guite once last season and was more impressed with his impact compared to Dagenais in the sample size of 1 game to 1 game. Don't think I made any proclamations beyond that. Let's agree that Dagenais is a great rookie with interesting tools.

I’ve seen his 7 games and I’m not convinced about the 5-10 range for the draft. However, I haven’t watched the other prospects and a lot can happen until then.

In the news article I posted, the Remparts' GM Simon Gagné says he's happy with what Maddox has done so far but he tempers a bit.

The Remparts are well aware that Dagenais, like all the young players in the organization, will experience down periods during the season.

And, in any case, it's not because he has 11 points in seven games that the son of former Canadiens Pierre Dagenais is where the organization wants him to be in the future.

Thought he was easily the most overrated player I had read about from this 2008 age group around the world and then compared to what I saw at the WHC17.

Might've just been a bad tournament. Celebrini was sick at this tournament two years ago and wasn't that good. There've been some other players who memorably to me weren't good at this tournament and then went on to become high picks (Sennecke, Iginla, Carlsson, Cooley, Byfield), but he looked like a below average skater and the offensive game looks nothing special. I liked Desnoyers and Guite last year at this tournament a lot more compared to highly hyped Q forwards, and I think Villeneuve is a better draft prospect for 2026.

That’s disappointing. It seems he’s really slowed down in Q action too. 1 goal in his last 10 games, 0+1 in his last 5. Still PPG but really cooled off after that blistering start.
